Early in the morning, my grandmother and father were cursing and swearing at home. They were naturally cursing my mother, saying that she was heartless, that she had been having an affair with someone outside, and that she had cruelly abandoned her two children.
These days, some people get divorced without even caring about embarrassing both families.
"Who in the family has ever mistreated her all these years since she married into the family? I bet she's been having an affair. Now she's gone outside again. Who knows if she's been with another man?"
"Alright, Mom, she's no longer part of our family. Why bother talking about her anymore? It's just bad luck!"
"You're not still hung up on her, are you? She's already found someone new. I don't even know when they started dating. You're still thinking about her? How pathetic!"
"no!"
Even after all this time, they still curse their mother at home every day, and Chen Junliang has gone from being angry to being calm.
Upon seeing him come out, the two barely managed to stop their cursing.
"Grandson, your mother doesn't want you anymore. She's going out to live a good life on her own. From now on, you'll live with your grandma and dad and depend on each other. Remember to be filial to us."
Chen Junliang didn't say anything. There was no breakfast at home, so he got dressed and went outside. He hadn't been to school for a long time and didn't know what he was doing outside all day.
"That ungrateful brat! He won't even talk to me, just like his mother! I told you not to marry her, but you insisted. Look what happened, she's even corrupted the child."
Chen Junliang's grandmother slammed what she was holding onto the table. Her two children had never been close to her since they were little, always siding with their mother. Now that the children were gone, they were still ignoring her with a stern face.
He didn't even consider that if she hadn't been willing to give him food, he would have starved to death long ago. His mother went out to live a better life, and at first, neither of her two sons wanted to take her with them, but later she was forced to take only the younger one.
If it weren't for the thought that she could make money by raising the older one for a few more years, she definitely wouldn't want any of them.
"Alright, Mom, stop talking."
"Why shouldn't I say anything? He doesn't go to school anymore and just wanders around outside all day. If we don't keep a close eye on him, who knows what trouble he might get into?"
To be honest, there's no job for him at home, and he'll be going to the countryside eventually anyway.
The only one in the family with a job is their son, but they can't give him the job right now. What if this ungrateful brat takes the job and doesn't give them money? Wouldn't they be left to starve?
If you really go to the countryside, there's not much hope. If you can't even support yourself, how can you possibly take care of them?
Looks like I need to write a letter to that ungrateful daughter-in-law and ask her to send money back to buy her eldest son a job.
She refused to believe she wouldn't give it to them. She hadn't allowed these two children to go to school before; what was the point of going to school?
This daughter-in-law still scrimped and saved to send both children to school; she refused to believe that the man could really be so heartless as to abandon them.
Chen Junliang went outside and stared at the sky for a long time without saying a word. Only when he reached an empty alley did he take out the paper from his pocket.
The paper had his mother's current work address written on it. He had money in his hand, which his mother had given him before she left.
He thought she didn't want him anymore, but she still called him.
Logically speaking, Chen Junliang should have been overjoyed and couldn't wait to go to Northeast China to find her; he didn't want to stay at home.
Grandma curses at home every day, calling Mom an ingrate and also cursing him.
But he stared at the address on the paper for a long time without making a move.
When Guan Lian's parents arrived, they could hear her former mother-in-law yelling at her daughter from inside the house.
They paused for a moment, then turned and left without arguing. Luckily, they found their eldest grandson outside.
Upon seeing his maternal grandparents, Chen Junliang turned to leave, but they quickly stepped forward and grabbed the child.
"Are you trying to drive us crazy? What happened? Why don't you want to see us? What are your thoughts on your mother's situation? Why don't you go over there?"
Guan Lian's father quickly elbowed his wife. There were people outside, and if someone heard them and went back to tell his former mother-in-law, it would cause a huge uproar.
They quickly pulled the child home, and Chen Junliang only stopped struggling after they closed the door.
"Why don't you even want to see us? Did you hear what your dad and grandma said and now you hate us?"
As Guan Lian's mother spoke, her eyes reddened. Her daughter had married young and used to have a good relationship with her son-in-law. However, because of this wicked mother-in-law who controlled her son and often made things difficult for her daughter, she endured many years of hardship. She finally couldn't take it anymore and got a divorce.
There are all sorts of opinions from others, saying that they were living a good life together, so why were they so determined to get a divorce? If they were living a good life together, why would they divorce if they had children?
Not to mention others, even her own husband doesn't understand. Guan Lian's mother cries every day when she thinks about it. But it's good, her daughter can live a good life after the divorce.
She was indeed worried that it would be too much for her daughter to raise two sons alone, but these children were born to her daughter and raised by her. If they really became estranged from their mother, she would feel sorry for her daughter.
"Others may not know, but you do, right? What kind of life did your mother lead in that house? Do you hate her as much as your father and grandmother do?"
Guan Lian's father sat at the table without saying a word, only sighing. Guan Lian's mother cried and questioned her grandson. In the end, Chen Junliang remained silent with a stern face.
“Speak up. If you really hate your mother, we will never take care of you again. Once we step out of this door, we will be strangers. This will satisfy your father and grandmother.”
Chen Junliang remained silent for a long time, then said, "...No."
He doesn't blame her for the divorce. Before, he only blamed her for abandoning him and taking his younger brother with her. But when he heard her call him again, asking him to come over, he no longer even felt that resentment.
Upon hearing his words, Guan Lian's mother buried her face in her arms and cried for a long time before finally wiping away her tears.
"Your mother wrote to ask why you didn't go over. She gave you your address and money."
After all, he was her own grandson, and Guan Lian's mother felt sorry for him.
“Your mom has a job and a dormitory assigned to her now, so you can continue your studies there. At your age, you should study for as many years as possible. If you're lucky, you might be able to go to school later. What's the point of staying here? Your grandma definitely won't let you go to school. If you wait until next year, you'll probably have to go to the countryside. What kind of life is that in the countryside?”
"Your mother only kept you here out of necessity. Now she wants you to go over there, why don't you go?"
Chen Junliang clenched his hands tightly, staring at his feet without saying a word. Guan Lian's mother asked him several times, and finally slammed her hand on the table in anger.
"say!"
