Song Qing got up early on the third day. The train would arrive in Xin'an around 11 a.m.
She felt apprehensive about returning home, and the thought of her mother, Song Qing, made her eager to see her. She wondered what Ms. Tian Qiaozhu was feeling at this time, seeing that she had only been gone for a little over half a month.
"Mom," An'an was already dressed and sitting on the bed. She carefully moved her bottom closer to Song Qing and even sighed.
"What's wrong?" Song Qing suppressed a laugh and pulled her into his arms.
An'an didn't say anything; she was exhausted from sitting on the train for so many days.
"Can you stand here for a moment? Mom will pack your things."
Song Qing finished packing her luggage; she would arrive at her destination in a few hours.
The two men who had been appearing and disappearing almost mysteriously these past two days also got up and saw Song Qing packing her things on the upper bunk.
"You're also coming to Xin'an? Hehe, what a coincidence!"
Song Qing ignored him and continued what she was doing.
The man immediately felt a surge of anger. "Damn it, who does this little wench think she is?" he thought. Then he noticed that Lu Yang wasn't there.
"Are you deaf? I'm talking to you!"
His tone was fierce, and An'an was so frightened that she immediately hugged Song Qing's leg. The man in the lower bunk immediately kicked her upwards.
"You bastard, do you want to die? If you want to die, then die by yourself and don't drag him down with you. Damn it, I absolutely can't take this thing out next time."
"Sorry, sister-in-law, he has a foul mouth. I'll teach him a lesson later."
“They really need to be disciplined properly; hooliganism is punishable by death these days.” Song Qing ruffled An’an’s hair and glanced at her coldly.
The man on the upper bunk wanted to say something, but then he was kicked again from below and quickly shut his mouth.
"Yes, yes, I'll teach him a lesson next time."
Everything was packed, but Lu Yang hadn't returned yet. He had gone to get hot water, so it was no wonder he hadn't come back for so long.
"How about you eat a few cookies first?"
Song Qing took out some cookies to coax the child, who had just been frightened and was now sticking close to Song Qing.
After they finished eating the cookies and sat on the bed for a while, Lu Yang finally returned. "Why did you take so long?"
As soon as Song Qing asked this question, the two people next to him also quietly pricked up their ears and looked at Lu Yang warily.
"The water boiler broke down, so I lent a hand there."
Lu Yang handed the water to Song Qing with his back to her, while secretly giving her a wink.
Song Qing took the enamel cup and lowered her head.
"Everything's packed. We'll get off in a few hours."
"Dad," An'an was actually a little scared and aggrieved; the two people's words had frightened her.
Lu Yang held her and gave Song Qing a questioning look, but Song Qing shook her head. "Are you getting restless? It's okay, we'll be there soon."
Lu Yang held her for a while, then sighed and handed the child to Song Qing. "Her bottom is all hairy. Take her for a walk around here."
Song Qing put down her water glass and replied with a light smile, "I couldn't stand it any longer. If it were another day, I'd probably be crying. Let's go see if they make soy milk today."
She led An'an out, and Lu Yang carried all the luggage to the lower bunk and sat on the train.
He's now just waiting for instructions from outside.
When Song Qing went outside, she found that the people in the nearby carriages were gone. The police officers in plainclothes gestured for her to walk out.
It turns out that when the police were investigating the smuggling gang, they discovered that two men in the same carriage as Song Qing were also part of the gang. When they checked the passenger information on the train, they found Lu Yang's identity and asked him to cooperate with the mission.
And that's how this whole thing happened.
Song Qing held An'an and waited anxiously in the back carriages. After a long time, Lu Yang finally ran over.
"It's okay."
Song Qing breathed a sigh of relief; judging from his expression, they must have captured everyone.
"What crimes did they commit?"
"It must be smuggling," Lu Yang explained to Song Qing in a low voice, knowing nothing else.
We live in a planned economy era where all industrial products are distributed by the state. Some criminals then try to smuggle foreign industrial products for profit.
Guangdong, which borders Hong Kong to the south, and the northeast, which borders the Soviet Union to the north, are both hotspots for criminals, attracting many people from all over the country to these two places.
In recent years, the police have made great efforts to capture them.
"We've arrived at Xin'an. Everyone, please check your tickets. If this is your stop, please get off now."
The train attendant shouted at the top of her lungs as she went back and forth through the carriages. Song Qing, holding An'an's hand, followed Lu Yang and squeezed off the train.
Seeing the familiar city, Song Qing couldn't help but smile. "I'm home."
"Um"
"Grandma, let's go see Grandma." An'an's feet finally touched the ground, and she let go of Song Qing's hand and ran around for a while.
"Let's go to Grandma's house first, and then we'll go to Grandma's house later."
They hailed a taxi waiting at the train station and headed to the Lu family's house, only to find the doors tightly shut when they arrived.
"Oh dear, Song Qing, didn't you go to the Northeast? Why are you back? Hey, isn't this Xiao Yang? What brings you back too?"
The elderly neighbor came out and saw that the couple had actually returned.
Oh dear, their timing was terrible; Xiao Hui is still in the hospital.
"Why don't you leave your things at my place first? Your parents probably won't be back for a while."
"No need, Grandma Liu, I'll go to my dad's office to get the key."
“Your dad isn’t in the office,” Grandma Liu sighed, looking at Lu Yang. “They’re all at the hospital, but don’t worry, Xiao Hui is fine now. She’ll be home after a couple of days at the hospital.”
Lu Yang was shocked. "What happened to Xiao Hui? Why is she in the hospital?"
"Don't worry, Xiaohui did something foolish because she was thinking too much, but she's alright now."
Lu Yang was terrified. He quickly left his belongings at Grandma Liu's house and rushed to the hospital with his wife and daughter.
He rushed back as soon as he received Rong Hui's call, but he never expected that something would still happen to her.
In the ward, He Shuyue stared suspiciously at Lu Ronghui. Rongjun had told her that all the documents and certificates were missing, and she wondered if it was her daughter's doing.
She probably went crazy because she found out about her job.
They had originally planned to go to their workplace today to complete the formalities, but now it will take some time to obtain the replacement certificates.
If Lu Ronghui really finds out and makes a scene, then Old Lu will definitely object to her giving the job to Rongjun, and in that case, she can only watch Rongjun go to the countryside.
He Shuyue was worried about what to do. Should she directly ask Lu Ronghui if she had hidden the things?
What if she didn't hide it, but just lost it when she threw Rong Jun's things out yesterday? Wouldn't that expose her work?
"Mom, why have you been staring at me all day?"
Just as He Shuyue was about to speak, the door to the ward was pushed open, and Lu Yang, looking furious, stood outside.
What happened to Rong Hui?
