Chapter 73 - You Stole It

Caught off guard, Bai Xiangdong was pounced on by the enraged Chen Hongxia, whose sharp fingernails slashed across his face, leaving a long, blood-soaked wound.

"Are you sick?" Bai Xiangdong grabbed her hand and shoved her aside.

"Give me back my jewelry right now!"

Chen Hongxia stared at the man with resentment. Her life was ruined because of him, and she absolutely could not let Rong Jun suffer the same misfortune as her.

She had been living in fear these past few days. Rong Jun had lost her job, and now she was being sent to the countryside. The loss of her jewelry was the last straw that broke her back.

“I had no idea there was jewelry in the house. You never let me know about those things. Let me tell you, don’t think you can get rid of that 1,800 yuan with this little trick.”

Bai Xiangdong touched the stinging wound on his face with great impatience. He didn't know what had gotten into her. Apart from the gold bars she had given him back then, he knew nothing about her.

"If it's not you, then who is it? Only you in this family know this."

How would I know who took it, or who you gave it to?

Under Chen Hongxia's repeated questioning, Bai Xiangdong could no longer hold back. He slammed the door shut, cutting off his son's probing gaze from outside.

"Who did you give the things to yourself?" He lowered his voice and stared sharply at Chen Hongxia.

She had fled with her family and somehow ended up behind. While war was raging outside, Bai Xiangdong took her in, and Chen Hongxia even gave him some gold bars to bribe him.

After liberation, Bai Xiangdong allowed her to live under the name of his fiancée, and the two moved to Xin'an together.

"I don't know what you're talking about."

"Heh," Bai Xiangdong sneered. After so many years, how could he not know that Chen Hongxia had always looked down on him? By the way, her name wasn't Chen Hongxia; her surname was Lin.

Looking at this furious, disheveled, and dejected man, Chen Hongxia felt a growing sense of despair.

Lin Yingyu could never have imagined that her future husband would be like this, and that she would even have four children with such a person.

But what could she do? This man had forced himself on her.

After learning her identity, he threatened her, saying that if she didn't agree, he would send her away as a spy.

The two even conspired to kill the original Chen Hongxia and use her identity to live in a new city.

"You didn't leave back then because you wanted to find Chen Fangyang, right? But he never took a liking to you. And you originally just wanted to report your distant cousin, but you ended up hurting him instead."

"I don't!"

"I never thought that you would still be so hung up on him after all these years, hating his wife for so long, and dreaming of bringing her down!"

Don't you realize that Chen Fangyang could never possibly be interested in a woman as vicious as you?

Chen Hongxia had been living under immense pressure for years, feeling both guilty and afraid. When Bai Xiangdong suddenly exposed her thoughts, she felt like a poisonous insect being exposed to the sun.

"Get out! If you hadn't forced me, why would I have married you!"

Bai Xiangdong dodged the thrown object, angrily grabbed the man by the collar, and dragged him to the ground.

"It was me who saved you. If it weren't for me, you would have been dragged away and shot long ago."

The exact sounds of the two arguing inside the house could not be heard, but there were occasional sounds of things being smashed.

Bai Jiahe looked nervously at the closed door, wondering why his parents had suddenly started arguing.

Over the years, the two of them have always treated each other with respect, rarely speaking and never arguing. Nobody knows what happened today.

In Bai Jiahe's heart, Chen Hongxia was not very affectionate towards him. She always felt sorry for the younger sister who was sent to the Lu family, and she had no presence at home except for doing chores.

But today I suddenly broke things at home.

"Your parents are arguing inside, and you don't even try to mediate." Bai Jiamei, who was about to slip away, looked at Bai Jiahe sitting on the sofa with a strange expression.

If someone goes to invite trouble at this time, the response would be, "Then why don't you go?"

As soon as she finished speaking, she quickly slipped out of the house. She knew that if the couple realized what had happened, they might find out that someone else had taken the jewelry, so she had to get out of there as soon as possible.

"You!" Bai Jiahe didn't dare to intervene, but he didn't expect that his sister, who used to be so accommodating to him, would dare to talk back to him. He wanted to say something more, but she had already left.

This family is in complete chaos. Before, when his mother worked at home, he and his father would have a hot meal waiting for them when they came home from work.

His two younger sisters used to dote on him, but now everything has changed.

It all started with Bai Rongjun coming back. She's already a daughter of the Lu family, why did she have to come back? What a troublemaker.

The two had a big argument inside the house, both of them sustaining numerous injuries. After calming down, they realized that the other person genuinely didn't know about the incident.

"Who else could it be but you? Nobody in the family knows."

“I didn’t know you kept things at home; your gold bars have always been hidden outside.”

A few years ago, things were not peaceful, and various movements were in full swing. Red Guards would come to search homes from time to time. They never dared to keep gold bars at home and hid them in secluded places outside.

"Even if you keep it at home, nothing has happened for so many years, how come something happened recently?"

Bai Xiangdong said a few words, and gradually he began to have doubts.

"Yes, everything was fine before, but it's because your daughter came back. As soon as she came back, something bad happened at home. Don't you think it was her?"

He thought he had grasped the truth of the matter, and then he thought about his 1800, and now he truly hated this daughter.

"Impossible!" Chen Hongxia didn't believe Bai Rongjun would do such a thing, especially since she had no idea there would be anything in the house.

Besides Bai Xiangdong, who else knows!

Suddenly, a thought flashed through Chen Hongxia's mind: Zhou Qi knew about her.

Could it be that he sent someone to steal those things from his house?

Zhou Qi is both greedy and ruthless; he is absolutely capable of doing such a thing.

Chen Hongxia clenched her fists. She had been manipulated and threatened by Zhou Qi for so many years, but she had never been able to do anything about it.

Seeing Chen Hongxia's silence, Bai Xiangdong assumed she also suspected Bai Rongjun, but unexpectedly, Chen Hongxia asked him to give her the rest of the money.

"I need money now. I know you have some on you. Give me the money first, and I'll pay you back later."

"You haven't even returned the 1800 to me." Bai Xiangdong couldn't believe it. He thought he could make more money, but he didn't expect that Chen Hongxia would never give him anything after the initial amount.

"I still have more than a dozen gold bars in my hand."

Bai Xiangdong fell silent. He had hidden all the few hairs on his body in his ancestral grave in his hometown. Since Chen Hongxia had brought it up, she definitely didn't only have a dozen or so.

"Two"

"OK"

Chen Hongxia stood up expressionlessly. She told Bai Xiangdong to hurry up and give her the money so she could go find Zhou Qi to make arrangements.

Just then, voices came from outside, and Bai Jiahe shouted for them to come out.

"Your youngest daughter has had an accident, why don't you go and check on her?"
