CHAPTER 24

CHAPTER 24

Sheng Qing, who had emerged disheveled from the soil, unconsciously held his breath, afraid of waking something that shouldn't be awakening.

"I'm just using your esteemed space. Please forgive me if I offend you!" Sheng Qing muttered to himself with a very sincere expression. He also summoned the power of the gold element and gently cut the skin at the right spot, the smell of blood filling the air.

With quick reflexes, he removed the locator and tossed it aside.

A commotion erupted at the entrance to the cemetery. Had those damn cat-men caught up so quickly?

While Sheng Qing was quickly bandaging the wound, he glanced at the cat-man who was negotiating with the tomb keeper.

They really think highly of themselves, actually sending cat-people with nearly 70% cat-like characteristics to hunt them down?

Hmm? There's another guy who's 50% cat-like.

The 50% cat-like pure black cat head glanced in Sheng Qing's direction, and for some reason felt a sense of familiarity.

The pure black cat-man stood there, a sight that reminded Sheng Qing of the elegant cat baron from an animated film she had seen before, bearing a striking resemblance.

What are you thinking about?

Sheng Qing shook his head, turned around and disappeared underground again, continuing to flee into the distance.

There was a faint sound behind him, but he didn't dare to turn around and just rushed forward.

"I should be able to shake them off this time," Sheng Qing thought after taking two breaths and decided to find a place to rest properly.

Finally, he appeared in the garden of a villa, turning up his collar to slightly cover his face.

He picked up a hat from the roadside and put it on his head, which barely covered his face.

Where can you go when you're penniless?

Sheng Qing randomly picked a hotel that looked decent to rest in. Sorry, boss, I'll have to use unconventional methods to break in through the window.

Huh? A cat's head flashed by in the reflective glass.

Didn't we throw away the locator? How could it catch up so quickly?

Sheng Qing slipped into a narrow alley, glancing out of the corner of her eye at her still bleeding left wrist.

Is the cat's nose that sensitive, or is there some special equipment that can track bloodstains?

We need to find a way to cover up the smell of blood!

In the mirror at the alley entrance, the cat-headed figure chased after Sheng Qing.

Sheng Qing quickly ran to the other end of the alley.

Oh no! Cat-people are searching here too.

Sheng Qing stepped back, his brows furrowed, and glanced at the trash can at the alley entrance.

With a heavy heart, I rolled over and hid inside.

The stench was unbearable! The smell of rot and sourness assaulted my senses.

Having not cleaned it for a long time, Sheng Qing suppressed the urge to vomit.

Pinch your nose, cover your mouth, and breathe in small sips.

The sound of hurried footsteps drew closer!

Sheng Qing held his breath and listened intently.

"Check the trash can." The trash can was kicked hard, making Sheng Qing's eardrums ring.

Then came the sound of the bucket lid being opened, and something being inserted into the bucket and stirred.

Sheng Qing, who had been poked, tried his best to control himself from making any noise.

"Go and take a look ahead." A cold voice rang out.

Why does that sound familiar?

"Okay." Several voices responded in unison, and the footsteps slowly faded away.

They should be far away by now. Sheng Qing patiently waited for another ten minutes or so until pedestrians gradually passed by the alley entrance and the sound of casual conversation could be heard.

Fortunately, I was quick-witted enough to move to the very back of the trash can and even covered myself with a lot of trash to escape unscathed.

Just as I was about to get up, a voice suddenly came from outside the trash can.

"How long do you plan to hide inside?"

Sheng Qing dared not breathe, feeling a chill run through his body.

If all else fails, she'll fight it. Sheng Qing isn't just good at hiding; she tried to hold her breath and summon her elemental power.

"Sheng Qing." The man's tone was somewhat helpless. "I am Meng Yunxi."

Meng Yunxi? Really?

Sheng Qing was overjoyed and hurriedly lifted the trash can to stand up.

"Captain, is it really you?" Sheng Qing felt like she was about to cry, but what came into view was a pure black cat head.

"You...you really are Meng Yunxi?" Sheng Qing's surprised expression froze, and she stared at the other person warily.

"It's me," the cat-headed man said calmly.

"How did you become like this? Did you also undergo that modification surgery?" Sheng Qing looked her over carefully as she climbed out of the trash can using both hands and feet.

It seemed that Sheng Qing had stepped on some fruit or vegetable peel, and she slipped and was about to fall, but Meng Yunxi, who had a cat-shaped head, reached out and caught her.

For some unknown reason, Sheng Qing, in a moment of impulse, threw herself into Meng Yunxi's arms and hugged her tightly.

"Thank goodness it's you. I was prepared to risk everything, like a rabbit jumping over a wall."

Perhaps it was the joy of surviving a disaster.

Meng Yunxi's body stiffened, seemingly not expecting Sheng Qing's actions. After a while, she hurriedly reached out and patted Sheng Qing's back.

"Now is not the time to speak."

Sheng Qing then let go of her hand and looked up to see Meng Yunxi's slightly furrowed brows.

Hmph, you guys chased me so closely, it must have been a tough time being the dumping ground for me.

"Let's find a place to change first." Meng Yunxi's mustache trembled slightly, then he calmly cleaned off the unknown trash that Sheng Qing had rubbed onto his body.

The two found a hotel nearby.

"One...one room?" Sheng Qing looked at Meng Yunxi with a puzzled expression.

"Don't overthink it." Meng Yunxi said calmly, not even glancing at Sheng Qing, and promptly paid the room fee to the front desk.

The receptionist's gaze swept quickly back and forth between Sheng Qing and Meng Yunxi, revealing a meaningful smile.

It seems to be saying that yet another young girl is about to be scammed.

To everyone's surprise, Meng Yunxi took the room key and handed it directly to Sheng Qing, saying, "You pack first, I'll go buy some clean clothes."

"Okay." Seeing Meng Yunxi turn to leave, Sheng Qing added, "Do you know what size I wear?"

"Is this the time to be so particular?" she said, but her eyes still darted up and down.

Sheng Qing chuckled awkwardly, muttering to himself that he must have overused his mental energy and his mind had gone blank.

Thinking about the possibility of the cat-like people suddenly appearing again, Sheng Qing quickly finished washing up and changed into the hotel's bathrobe.

"Knock knock knock!" A knocking sound rang out on the door.

"Who?" Sheng Qing asked warily.

"It's me, Meng Yunxi."

Sheng Qing opened the door, but Meng Yunxi didn't go inside. She simply handed over a bag containing clothes and a hot breakfast.

"Thank you, Captain!" A very sincere expression of gratitude.

"Go to the lower city and find the Qin siblings." Meng Yunxi handed over another map.

“Okay.” Sheng Qing asked, puzzled, “Are you leaving now? That modification surgery had a tracking device implanted, and there might be a bomb inside.”

"I know," Meng Yunxi said confidently, and reached out to close the door.

Suddenly, a series of hurried footsteps came from the elevator entrance.

"Routine check, have you seen this person before!" A rough voice could be faintly heard.

Meng Yunxi glanced outside, then quickly slipped inside and closed the door.

"What happened? Have the cat people caught up with us?" Sheng Qing asked anxiously, instinctively looking out the window as she tried to escape from the twelfth-floor window.

"It's too late." Meng Yunxi saw through Sheng Qing's intention and refused abruptly.

No sooner had he finished speaking than there was another rapid knocking at the door.

"Open the door, routine inspection!" The visitor seemed hostile.

Meng Yunxi glanced at Sheng Qing with a complicated expression and took off her coat.

"Cooperate with me." She placed the clothes and breakfast in Sheng Qing's hands aside. "Lie down."

"Huh?" Sheng Qing was completely stunned. What did that mean?

Seeing that Sheng Qing didn't move, Meng Yunxi put her arm around Sheng Qing and leaned her against the bed.

"Bang!" The door was kicked open.

At the same time, Meng Yunxi, who had rolled over and straddled Sheng Qing, suddenly pulled the blanket over both of them.

Sheng Qing, who had roughly guessed Meng Yunxi's intentions, was still in a daze. His whole body was stiff with tension, and he lay straight on the bed.

Neither of them uttered a sound, seemingly engrossed in something under the covers. In reality, their bodies maintained a delicate distance, completely undisturbed.

Sheng Qing kept his eyes tightly closed. Meng Yunxi's breathing was right next to his ear, and his trembling beard rose and fell gently, brushing against his cheek, making him feel tingly and numb.

"Call me by my name," a deep voice said.

"Huh?" Sheng Qing was confused, but still tentatively called out, "Meng, Meng Yunxi?"

"Routine inspection, didn't you hear me?" The person who came in was very annoyed and kicked the door again.

There has still been no response.

Sheng Qing felt her right hand being held by a pair of warm, large hands, her tightly clenched fingers being gently and methodically pried open one by one.

Palm to palm, an unfamiliar sensation rushes between fingers.

Sheng Qing remained completely still, as if afraid of accidentally touching something he shouldn't.

"Speak louder." The tone was restrained and calm.

Hmm? Sheng Qing felt that his eyebrows must be furrowed tightly. He had never eaten pork, but he had seen pigs run.

Realizing the other party's intention, Sheng Qing raised her voice in response.

"Meng Yunxi~" Her voice even trembled slightly.

Meng Yunxi seemed to be stunned for a moment, her hands suddenly stopped moving, and her breathing became heavier.

"Does he really not take me seriously?" The cat-man's patience reached its limit.

"Have you seen enough?" Meng Yunxi turned her head, her tone icy, looking furious that her good time had been interrupted.

"Team, Captain?" Only then did the cat-man realize that the person who didn't take him seriously was his own captain, and he panicked for a moment.

"Get out if you've seen enough!" Meng Yunxi's tone was quite displeased.

"I'm sorry, Captain." The cat-man looked respectful and closed the door as quickly as possible.

"Isn't the captain already..."

"Shut up!"

The sounds outside the door gradually faded away.

"In urgent situations, one must act expediently." Meng Yunxi's voice was hoarse as she released Sheng Qing's hand and sat up.

"I didn't hurt you, did I?" Not hearing a sound, Meng Yunxi turned her head to look at Sheng Qing again.

"No, it's nothing," Sheng Qing replied weakly.

In the midst of the crisis, he was under immense mental tension and didn't have time to think much. Now that the crisis was over, Sheng Qing felt a strange sensation all over his body, and his cheeks and ears began to feel hot and flushed.

For a moment, both of them fell silent, and the atmosphere became strange and awkward.

I need to say something.

Sheng Qing jokingly said in a lighthearted tone, "I heard them call you captain. You've become a captain so quickly!"

Sheng Qing forced himself to remain calm and glanced back at Meng Yunxi. He saw that the other woman's pure black eyes were currently in an excited, vertical pupil state for some reason.

"Hmm." The brief reply seemed to carry some ambiguous emotions.

Unconsciously shifting his gaze, Sheng Qing chuckled dryly, "Captain, you're really amazing!" His eyes then fell on the other's fluffy tail, which was swaying unconsciously.

"Your tail is really interesting." Sheng Qing wanted to say a few more flattering words.

But the next second, Meng Yunxi changed her sitting posture and hid her tail.

mean!

No, could it be because of excitement? Sheng Qing realized this too late.

Good heavens, what kind of outrageous things have I said?!

I might as well keep my eyes and mouth tightly closed, lest I see something I shouldn't see or say something I shouldn't say.

"Breakfast will get cold if we don't eat it soon," Meng Yunxi said curtly.

"I'll go now. We'll talk about everything after I get in touch with the Qin siblings."

"Okay," Sheng Qing replied softly, only opening her eyes after hearing Meng Yunxi leave and the door close.
