CHAPTER 3

CHAPTER 3

"What are we looking for?" Sheng Qing immediately regretted asking the question; what an idiotic question.

Meng Yunxi gave him a look as if he were an idiot: "If I knew, would I have been here for so long?"

"How long have you been trapped here?" Sheng Qing awkwardly changed the subject, but it wasn't a wasted question. At least she learned that the normal world wasn't like this, and she didn't suddenly have a husband and a child.

Meng Yunxi had just finished checking the rooms on this floor and found nothing unusual, and was about to go up to the second floor. She glanced at Sheng Qing and said, "I think you're really not awake. How did you even get in here…", then raised an eyebrow, "There won't be a next time."

Sheng Qing was truly suffering in silence, unable to express her bitterness. It wasn't her fault that she hadn't inherited the memories of this body.

"But you don't need to underestimate yourself. Maybe you can make a name for yourself by changing your career after you leave." Meng Yunxi's indifferent voice came from upstairs.

Sheng Qing couldn't imagine what kind of expression Meng Yunxi had behind the mask as she coldly uttered those words.

Oh no, I'm too far from the big shots!

Thinking of this, Sheng Qing rushed upstairs in three steps, and in a flash he saw Meng Yunxi's clothes slip into the room on the right.

The room was dimly lit, and Sheng Qing could vaguely see a figure standing motionless near the window. Judging from the clothes, it was similar to Meng Yunxi's. Without thinking much of it, she followed.

"What are you looking at?" Sheng Qing leaned closer and looked in the same direction. Outside the window were dilapidated buildings, and the sky still held that crimson moon; nothing particularly special about it.

"What happened?" Still no answer.

This wasn't like Meng Yunxi's style, Sheng Qing turned his head in confusion.

What the hell? A deathly pale face suddenly appeared in front of Sheng Qing; if it didn't have features, it could still be called a face.

Sheng Qing's mind went blank for a moment, but his body reacted before his brain could react. Before he even realized what had happened, the faceless monster had already been kicked far away by him.

This body works really well!

Sheng Qing approached, intending to kick him a few more times, when suddenly, the faceless monster stiffened and stood up straight.

Sheng Qing was startled and took a half step back. He then clenched his right fist and delivered a heavy elbow strike to the faceless monster's head.

The faceless head rotated 360 degrees and then slowly came to a stop, refocusing on Sheng Qing's face.

Is he a rubber man?

Then the head spun 360 degrees at an even faster speed to return to its original position.

Sheng Qing was stunned by the monster's combo attack and forgot to finish it off for a moment.

But the faceless monster didn't make any attacking moves, and the two remained locked in a stalemate.

Perhaps it didn't mean any harm?

Since I can't solve it myself, it's better to retreat first.

While keeping a close watch on the faceless monster's movements, Sheng Qing also used the corner of his eye to check for escape routes.

Good, there are no space-related anomalies.

Sheng Qing saw an opportunity and planned to escape.

However, her feet seemed rooted to the ground and she couldn't move. Looking down, she saw that her feet were wrapped in something white, and that white, unidentified object was climbing up to her calves at a visible speed.

No, upon closer inspection, Sheng Qing realized in despair that his feet were not entangled by an unknown white object, but were being devoured and assimilated by it.

Sheng Qing half-squatted down and picked up the pebbles from the ground, trying to brush away the white unidentified object. However, the pebbles were also attached to and assimilated the moment they came into contact with it.

Sheng Qing frantically threw aside the rubble and looked around. Could the faceless monster in front of him be Meng Yunxi, who had also been assimilated by the white unidentified object?

Is he really that bad?

Wait! The faceless monster in front of me is actually moving its ankles, and then its calves.

As if it hadn't adapted to its new feet, the faceless monster moved toward Sheng Qing in a very awkward and stiff posture.

Sheng Qing's forehead was covered in cold sweat as he watched the white unidentified object climb up to his knees, while the faceless monster crookedly approached him.

A guess popped into Sheng Qing's mind: this faceless monster must have some kind of connection with the white unidentified object.

Even though his feet were bound, he was still able to move flexibly.

So when it is completely covered by the white unidentified object, that is when it regains its freedom?

Then you'll be trapped here forever, unless you wait for someone even dumber than yourself to take the bait.

The white unidentified object had already scurried up to his thigh, and at this moment the faceless monster's movements became even more coordinated.

But it didn't rush to get close to Sheng Qing; instead, it slowed down, as if enjoying the futile struggle of its trapped prey.

"Help!" Sheng Qing didn't care whether his cry for help would bring Meng Yunxi or more unknown dangerous creatures.

The room, though seemingly empty to the naked eye, felt crowded and stuffy.

Whether it was a hallucination or not, Sheng Qing heard a faint, sharp, gloating laugh, and large beads of sweat dripped from his forehead.

A malevolent, nauseating, indescribable, and ineffable unknown aura enveloped the entire room.

Sheng Qing felt a wisp of energy frantically probing and entangling her body, and she almost fainted.

fire!

At the critical moment, a voice rang in both his ears and mind. Sheng Qing quickly composed himself, and in a flash, a cluster of flickering flames appeared in mid-air before his eyes.

The faceless monster paused, seemingly quite wary of the flames. At the same time, the malice dissipated, the laughter died down, and the air began to flow again.

He actually conjured a flame out of thin air?

This is a world of magic. Sheng Qing's face was full of astonishment, and for a moment she forgot that she was in danger.

After a while, Sheng Qing came to his senses and focused his attention on guiding the flames to the faceless monster's side.

Perhaps it was because the flames were a perfect counter, but the faceless monster was completely powerless to resist and was reduced to ashes the moment it touched the flames.

Almost simultaneously, the white, unidentified object on Sheng Qing's body also vanished instantly.

I'm free!

"What happened?" Before the words were finished, Meng Yunxi appeared at the door and frowned slightly when she saw Sheng Qing's disheveled appearance.

"We encountered a faceless monster." Sheng Qing was still in shock and doubt.

"Is this really something to call for help?" Meng Yunxi relaxed her furrowed brows.

"Uh, I also sensed a strange aura, but I can't describe what it felt like. In short, it was very uncomfortable." Sheng Qing couldn't help but shudder as he recalled the scene.

"Could it be?" Meng Yunxi frowned again, closing her eyes as if investigating something. After a moment, she opened her eyes, a look of doubt flashing in them, and finally uttered three words: "Impossible."

Sheng Qing didn't argue with him. After quickly tidying herself up, she went out and asked, "Shall we continue?"

Meng Yunxi did not answer, and turned around to continue checking the nearby houses.

Following closely behind, Sheng Qing tried to create flames again, repeating the process several times until he became increasingly skilled.

"I'm such a genius to have transmigrated into a magical world," Sheng Qing thought happily.

Apart from discovering another faceless monster, which Sheng Qing quickly dealt with by summoning flames, everything went smoothly in the building.

The two left the building one after the other and headed towards another abandoned shopping mall.

Meng Yunxi had gone up and down the mezzanine between the first and second floors several times. Even the most patient person would eventually have to ask a question.

“First of all, I don’t mean to question you,” Sheng Qing said, carefully stacking her armor. “I’m just simply curious, what is it up there that attracts you so much that it’s worth making so many trips?”

"What do you mean?" Meng Yunxi stopped in her tracks, her raised right foot frozen in mid-air for a moment before slowly returning to its original position.

"This is your fourth time going up. Do you need my help?" Sheng Qing walked closer and noticed that Meng Yunxi's right hand was unconsciously clenched into a fist, with the veins on the back of her hand throbbing, as if she was enduring something.

"Impossible, this is my first time..." Meng Yunxi's voice was resolute, but then she slowed down because of uncertainty.

Finally realizing something was wrong, she turned to look at Sheng Qing, a hint of surprise flashing in her pure black eyes: "Are you sure?"

Sheng Qing nodded solemnly, momentarily startled by Meng Yunxi's wary expression. His heart pounded rapidly, and he cautiously moved a little closer to him.

Meng Yunxi glanced at Sheng Qing, unusually refraining from mocking her timidity, and lowered her voice: "Wait, I'll try again."

A few minutes later, Meng Yunxi reappeared at the stairwell. The moment her eyes met Sheng Qing's, she quickly turned around and assumed a defensive posture.

"Leave?" Sheng Qing silently mouthed, pointing in the direction of the exit.

Meng Yunxi quickly checked herself and found that she was unharmed except for not remembering what happened in the mezzanine. After a moment's thought, she beckoned to Sheng Qing: "Come on up, let's go and have a chat."

Sheng Qing hesitated and took a half step back. The next second, he felt Meng Yunxi's cold gaze fall on him. He reluctantly moved closer.

The two entered the mezzanine one after the other. Meng Yunxi snapped her fingers, and a cluster of flames lit up.

Before Sheng Qing could even get a clear look at his surroundings, the flames went out in the next second.

"Brother, why are you here again?" a childish voice asked, sounding a little puzzled. "And why did you bring a sister with you?"

The child's voice was quite displeased with Sheng Qing's appearance, and its tone suddenly turned fierce: "Didn't I say I don't like being disturbed?"

No one spoke in the darkness.

A brighter cluster of firelight appeared, then went out.

Then two or three clusters of firelight appeared, and the entire interlayer was instantly illuminated and made transparent.

Sheng Qing finally saw the owner of the child's voice clearly—a boy of about eight or nine, wearing clothes that were obviously too small and looked out of place. He was currently glaring angrily, uttering a harsh threat: "Don't blame me for being impolite!"

After waiting a few seconds, nothing happened.

Meng Yunxi relaxed her body, her eyes fixed on the boy, and chuckled: "I advise you to refrain from making threats."

"Keep a close eye on it." This was said to Sheng Qing, who was still keeping a close eye on the strange boy as he spoke.

“If I’m not mistaken, you don’t have any other offensive capabilities, otherwise I wouldn’t be standing here unharmed.” Meng Yunxi moved her fingers slightly, guiding a cluster of flames closer to the boy.

"But how did you manage to erase my memory?" Seeing Meng Yunxi getting closer and closer to the strange boy, Sheng Qing wanted to speak up to remind him, but seeing his confident actions, he felt it was unnecessary.

"Is it when I take my gaze away from your face?" As she spoke, Meng Yunxi slightly turned her gaze away, and as she turned to Sheng Qing, her eyes suddenly went blank.

Seemingly recalling her conversation with Sheng Qing downstairs, Meng Yunxi quickly turned around and focused her gaze back on the strange boy.

"I was right. Your abilities will be weakened or rendered ineffective when there is a second person present," Meng Yunxi said confidently.

"Shut up!" The strange boy seemed to have his weakness exposed, his face flushed red, his expression fierce yet helpless.

"Let's make a deal. I'll tell you something I don't know, and maybe it'll make your departure easier." Meng Yunxi's eyes revealed a smile.

"Then I don't need to keep staring at it anymore, right?" Sheng Qing asked softly, understanding the situation. Her eyes were sore and swollen from straining for so long.

"Tell me, who woke you up and gave you the ability to erase your memories?" Meng Yunxi ignored Sheng Qing and continued to question the strange boy, her voice icy.

Is there anything else?

Sheng Qing was shocked and almost couldn't help but look away to examine her surroundings. In the end, reason prevailed over fear, and her gaze remained fixed on the strange boy.

Upon hearing Meng Yunxi's words, the strange boy became even more alert, his eyes filled with fear, and his body even trembled involuntarily.

"Shut up." A voice, or rather a thought, suddenly appeared in Sheng Qing's mind. He looked at Meng Yunxi in disbelief, only to meet her equally astonished gaze.

Almost instantly, the strange boy's eyes became blank, his body emitted a cold, sticky aura, and his figure suddenly swelled up like a balloon.

Meng Yunxi sensed something was wrong, took a few steps back, grabbed Sheng Qing, and rushed towards the exit.

At the same time, the strange boy's penis could no longer withstand the rate of expansion and exploded with a bang, his internal organs blooming like fireworks and falling to the ground, filling the entire mezzanine room with a strong smell of blood.

Sheng Qing, who had escaped to safety, was so shocked by what he saw that his legs went weak. The scattered fragments and blood hissed and emitted white smoke the moment they touched the ground, dissolving everything they came into contact with like concentrated sulfuric acid.

If Meng Yunxi hadn't been holding him back, he would have already perished here.

"What are you standing there for?" Meng Yunxi's calm voice pulled Sheng Qing back to reality.

"How could that be?" Sheng Qing finally managed to clear her tongue.

“That aura was extremely dangerous.” Meng Yunxi’s voice was deliberately lowered and unusually cautious. “But for some reason, it didn’t attack us specifically.”
