CHAPTER 51
Suddenly, the book in her hand slipped again. Sheng Qing recognized the person and replied irritably, "I didn't see any sign saying Sheng Qing is prohibited from entering?"
"You!" Reed, who wasn't wearing a military cap and whose red hair was freely falling behind him, showed anger on his face. "Have I been too lenient with you?"
"Our relationship isn't exactly one of indulgence," Sheng Qing said, picking up the book with a calm expression.
"Then who do you have a relationship with? Blake?" Reed gave him that strange look again, filled with anger and resentment at his son's lack of ambition.
"That's what you said, I don't think so." Sheng Qing casually flipped through the book in her hand. Very well, it was a field she had never been involved in before.
"Hehe, speaking of which, you haven't fulfilled your obligations yet, have you?" Reid slowly approached Sheng Qing.
"What obligation? I haven't even enjoyed any rights, so why should I fulfill any obligations?" Sheng Qing closed the book nonchalantly and looked up at Reid.
"Who is it that's causing trouble at the convent in my name?" The distance between Reid and Sheng Qing had gone beyond the bounds of normal social interaction.
"Oh, how did I get into trouble?" Sheng Qing raised her left wrist, revealing the bracelet. "It insisted on wearing it on my wrist, what could I do?"
Reid raised his right hand, and the exposed bracelet seemed to be drawn by some invisible force, involuntarily moving closer to Sheng Qing's bracelet, only to be stopped by its owner at the last moment before they made contact.
The number 79 on the bracelet kept ticking diligently.
"What do you mean your stomach is letting you down? When did I ever say such a thing?" Reed's tone was irritable, and he was also slightly feverish in places that were not visible to the naked eye.
Uh, Sheng Qing was stunned. It really was something she made up; it was purely carelessness. How did it get to him, and how did he end up coming to his door to interrogate her?
"Cough cough cough..." Sheng Qing cleared his throat awkwardly, avoiding the topic and trying to get away with it.
Reid's gaze remained fixed on Sheng Qing, and after a long silence without any explanation, he gradually lost patience: "Aren't you going to explain?"
"There's nothing to explain." Sheng Qing answered quickly and then shut her mouth tightly. Reid's figure blocked the dim light behind her, and Sheng Qing moved her body back uncomfortably, pressing herself tightly against the bookshelf. The protruding part made her back hurt a little.
Reid saw Sheng Qing's actions clearly. Seemingly deliberately making things difficult, he remained motionless, looking down at him.
"What kind of explanation do you want to hear?" Sheng Qing sighed helplessly, turned his body slightly to the side, and tried to put the book in his hand back on the bookshelf, inevitably exposing his back to others.
Reid remained silent, his persistent gaze seemingly seeing another shadow through Sheng Qing.
Sheng Qing felt the same way, and for a fleeting moment a familiar feeling flashed in his eyes.
Reid stared intently, then suddenly leaned down and lightly touched Sheng Qing's lips with his own.
A jumbled, chaotic image flashed through my mind, gone in an instant.
Good heavens, is he possessed by a ghost? Sheng Qing stared in disbelief, frowning as her mind raced. What was his intention? She had considered being choked or thrown against a wall, but she never expected this.
Could he have applied poison and been trying to kill himself this way?
"Just a kiss."
"What kind of expression is that?"
"It represents nothing."
You scared yourself; it turns out you were just possessed by a ghost.
*Slap!* A crisp slap.
"It was just a slap."
"What kind of expression is that?"
"It doesn't represent anything?"
Sheng Qing paused for a moment.
"No, this is a response to your bad behavior."
"Blake, you damn bastard!" Reed cursed and leaped out of the library.
What does this have to do with Blake? It can't be that he's the one manipulating things.
However, if this can give her some peace and quiet for a while, it's not a bad deal.
Sheng Qing casually wiped away something that wasn't actually on her lips and turned her attention back to reading the books in the library.
Sheng Qing carefully selected a room that was neither too close nor too far from Reed's bedroom, which satisfied the bracelet's distance requirements while also reducing the probability of running into Reed head-on.
But it was too early to say anything. The moment the clock struck midnight, he suddenly found himself on that familiar bed.
Unlike in the past when they politely and restrainedly maintained their dignity, the two bracelets were tightly clasped together like the star-crossed lovers, the Weaver Girl and the Cowherd, who meet only once a year on Qixi Festival, reluctant to part.
He appeared calm on the surface, but was still somewhat embarrassed inside.
Sheng Qing cautiously glanced at the owner of the other bracelet. Reid was relatively calm at this moment, showing no inclination to do anything out of line. He seemed to have vented his anger through some means and remained silent about the situation.
I don't know how long this situation will last; we can't eat, drink, and relieve ourselves together forever.
Fortunately, they were on the left and right sides. Sheng Qing sighed and tried to avoid moving her left hand.
"Turn off the lights."
The room was plunged into darkness.
As the room gradually regained its light, Sheng Qing rubbed her still exhausted eyes with her right hand. Because of the accident with the bracelet, she hadn't slept well at all.
However, Reed was still able to sleep peacefully, his chest rising and falling rhythmically, emitting soft breathing sounds.
Why should I? Sheng Qing lost her mind for a moment and reached out to try to wake him up.
Huh? The bracelet can be loosened again?
Upon regaining his freedom, Sheng Qing had no time to spare and quickly tidied his appearance.
Go to sleep, go to sleep, sleep until you die!
Sheng Qing rushed to the convent again; she needed to supervise whether the nuns had kept their promise and whether the girls had received better treatment.
Several of the girls seemed to be quite talented; after watching Sheng Qing demonstrate the moves once, they were able to imitate them perfectly.
"You have so much energy?" The old woman looked at her with suspicion.
"Young people have more energy, is there a problem?" Sheng Qing didn't understand the implied meaning until she took the doctor's instructions from the nanny.
Yesterday's physical examination revealed that these few days were her fertile period. Although that's what the doctor wrote, Sheng Qing prefers to call it her ovulation period.
Could the wristbands detect this kind of data and then force two wristbands to come into close contact?
This bracelet looks unremarkable, but I never expected it to have such a high-tech side, at least in terms of the world's technological level.
This awkward situation lasted for five days before it improved. Only when the number on the bracelet changed to 74 did the irresistible attraction between the two bracelets disappear.
Sheng Qing breathed a sigh of relief; she could finally go back to the room she had carefully chosen and get a good night's sleep.
The convent also received good news: an ordinary-looking woman approached her.
The conversation, which lasted only a dozen minutes, was very beneficial to Sheng Qing. It was a novel perspective she had never seen before. Perhaps the ability to subtly change one's forbearance and the courage to boldly tear down the ceiling can coexist.
On the surface, things appear calm, but undercurrents are surging.
Sheng Qing shuttled between the convent and the manor, providing them with whatever support he could whenever he could, while also taking the time to learn about forbidden and secret arts in that somewhat gloomy library.
She and Rhett maintained a delicate balance; apart from the few hours they had to spend together from midnight to dawn, there were no conflicts, and they didn't even have to speak to each other.
When the number jumped to 1, Reid surprisingly took a stroll around the convent. But it was just a simple stroll; even Sheng Qing only found out afterward that she was busy discussing the future of the convent girls with that ordinary yet quick-witted woman.
Sheng Qing had been waiting in the weeds where she had come from since dusk, hoping for a miracle, but the moon rose and set again and she was still in the same place.
Rhett actually lied to her. Why would he lie about something like this?
Sheng Qing rushed angrily toward the manor, but halfway there he suddenly remembered that he was probably not there either. However, he had already arrived at the gate, and the handover of matters at the convent was almost complete, so he decided to go and take a look at the library.
The book I found a while ago seems to contain some kind of ritual about spatial transformation. Although I'm skeptical, I'll just give it a shot.
This library was rarely visited. Sheng Qing went in and out preparing materials for the ceremony, but didn't encounter a single person. He was busy until he was so hungry that he reluctantly got up to find something to eat to fill his stomach.
"You've changed your mind and aren't planning to go back?" Reed asked, his voice tinged with doubt, as he appeared behind the heavy door of the library.
"What good would it do you to lie to me?" Sheng Qing was furious. "I waited there all night last night, and things didn't go as you said at all. I'm still right here."
"Is this why you came here to cause trouble?" Reed chuckled, shifting his gaze from the mess to Sheng Qing.
"Otherwise what?" Sheng Qing retorted, his expression extremely impatient. "Don't block my way, I'm busy."
"Heh, are you stupid?" Reed sneered. "Take another look at the bracelet."
"Isn't this 0? What's wrong with it..." Sheng Qing was stunned. It was her fault for being impatient and having poor eyesight. There was another string of numbers after the number 0, with the number 15 engraved on it. Suddenly, it jumped and became 14.
"This number should refer to the number of minutes, right?" Sheng Qing waited for a while, but the number remained unchanged at 14.
"What would happen if I didn't get to that place before it became zero?" Sheng Qing looked up at the person in front of her and asked, "Would I never be able to go back?"
“It’s not that bad.” Reed looked at Sheng Qing, who was clearly flustered, with interest and slowly added, “It’s just another 90 days.”
Sheng Qing started gathering her strength halfway through the conversation. She didn't want to waste any more of her life here. She also wondered if Meng Yunxi and the others had left the other secret realm, and what the situation was with the Qin siblings in Mengcheng.
“You can’t catch up at that speed.” Reed’s expression remained unchanged, and he caught up with Sheng Qing with ease, without even panting.
"Stop making sarcastic remarks." Sheng Qing held his breath and began to mobilize his spiritual energy to replenish his strength. He had enough stamina, but he still couldn't increase his speed.
Suddenly, I felt a tightness beside me, my feet were dangling in the air, and the buildings on both sides moved backward rapidly.
Sheng Qing turned her head and saw that Reid had actually been very kind, putting his arm around her and walking quickly forward. Judging from the direction, it was the location of the convent.
"What are you looking at? I'll remember this favor to Blake for now, and one day I'll get my revenge." Reed's words faded into the wind.
In short, don't remember her as Sheng Qing.
Reid seemed to be timing it perfectly; just as the number on the bracelet jumped to 1, Sheng Qing's feet touched the ground. Then, a flash of white light appeared, and when Sheng Qing opened her eyes again, she was back in Sheng Zhilin's mansion.
