CHAPTER 62

CHAPTER 62

If this is all a dream, then wouldn't she have the final say?

It is said that if a person can be consciously aware that it is a dream and can manipulate the direction of the dream according to their own wishes, then she is likely a potential schizophrenic.

Although he wasn't insane enough to manipulate dreams at will, it wasn't uncommon for people to realize they were in a dream. That being said, Sheng Qing never felt that he was any different from ordinary people.

Sheng Qing would even act out a different identity for himself before going to bed and enjoy the storyline, which was a way to relax.

When faced with relentless pursuit from evil spirits, zombies, or ghouls, Sheng Qing always manages to equip himself with superhuman abilities through sheer willpower. These abilities range from the ability to telekinesis to the ability to traverse mountains and seas with incredible agility. If he encounters a simple case of a demon causing sleep paralysis, he confronts it head-on, unleashing a torrent of curses. He'll see who's tougher, even if it means mutual destruction.

As for how to wake up from a nightmare, one of the methods Sheng Qing often used was to jump from a height. The dangerous feeling of his heart skipping a beat or suddenly stopping was incredibly captivating; it was the surge of adrenaline that sent commands to his brain. It was the lack of oxygen, as if he would expand and then shatter into pieces at any moment.

Flying, being able to fly freely, whether it's gliding low after a light leap on flat ground, or slowly falling from a bottomless cliff, just thinking about it makes one's blood boil.

Sheng Qing pushed open the window, and the sky had gradually turned black. On the windowsill were clean, white sneakers drying in the sun. Peeking out, the 11th floor was only about 30 meters high, and the streetlights flickered as if they were not working properly.

Sheng Qing scrambled onto the windowsill, the wind whistling past her ears. Even in a dream, she felt a urge to retreat.

What if this isn't a dream?

Sheng Qing slowly squatted down, her feet moving slowly towards the edge of the windowsill, with about one-fifth of her shoe sole already hanging in the air.

What are you waiting for? Are you going to jump or not? Give me a straight answer, lots of people are waiting!

But what if this isn't a dream?

Sheng Qing suddenly remembered the twin brother and sister who had fallen from a height and were now hiding in the basement, scaring people. Oh, it hurts!

Forget it, Sheng Qing stepped back and landed along the edge.

Then let's try another method: hold your breath. That should wake you up too.

Sheng Qing closed her eyes and tried to distract herself by doing something else while holding her breath, such as humming a familiar melody in her mind and tapping the ground rhythmically with her toes.

I felt like I should shout out some kind of mantra at this moment.

Demons and monsters, get out of here!

So be it! May your soul return!

Wake up, you who are asleep!

Pfft!

Sheng Qingjin couldn't help but laugh out loud. At the same time, a jumble of sounds and light flooded in, and she truly woke up.

"You're awake."

"You're finally awake!"

Meng Yunxi moved her hand away from her eyes, a dull ache throbbing in her philtrum. The nanny chattered away, her figure shifting. Sheng Qing, still not fully apprehensive, shifted from a lying position to leaning against the back of the sofa.

Could this still be a dream? Like Russian nesting dolls, layer upon layer.

Otherwise, how do you explain the sudden riots and the dozen or so almost identical corpses in the basement?

Should we confirm this?

How can I confirm this?

What to do? My brain just can't keep up.

I went to the edge of the city, my mind screaming.

Let's go then.

"I want to go somewhere, can you come with me?" Sheng Qing still held a sliver of hope, needing someone to witness whether this was a dream or not.

"Okay." Meng Yunxi was silent for a moment before agreeing, without asking why.

Where are you going?

"Too dangerous!"

"Don't forget the alienation you encountered before. If you leave this protective zone and something happens, who will save you?"

"Take a look for yourself." Gray handed over a miniature magnetic field detector; the fluctuating red curve on it was off the charts, making it almost useless for reference. The surviving outer ring was also gradually being tinged with a reddish-yellow halo.

"I must go." Sheng Qing remained unmoved.

"Alright." Meng Yunxi raised her right hand slightly, and everyone shut up and stopped trying to dissuade her.

Sheng Qing sat in the passenger seat, Meng Yunxi started the car, stepped on the gas, and roared into the traffic.

Sheng Qing rolled down the car window, and a gust of wind at 60 km/h rushed into the car. The figure in the rearview mirror became blurry, and even the lights in the distance flickered, as if they had suddenly lost connection and then reconnected.

"Faster," Sheng Qing said.

Meng Yunxi glanced at him sideways, but didn't say anything, acting like a competent tool, as the speedometer reading increased to 80 mph.

The vehicle quickly entered the inner ring expressway, where the speed limit was 100 km/h. The speed was maintained at 110 km/h. Sheng Qing felt the wind was getting stronger. Meng Yunxi seemed to say something, but she didn't hear it clearly. It was something like where to drive and whether to continue driving.

"Drive that way." Sheng Qing rolled up the car window and casually pointed to the brightly lit hills in the distance.

Sheng Qing closed his eyes.

"arrive."

"So fast?" Sheng Qing felt like only a few minutes had passed. She opened her eyes, and it was indeed the place she had pointed to.

"Am I asleep?" Sheng Qing asked.

Meng Yunxi did not answer, it was unclear whether she hadn't heard clearly or didn't know how to respond.

"Go there." Sheng Qing stretched his neck forward; there were lights not far away. Let's continue.

"arrive."

Huh?

This time, Sheng Qing deliberately closed his eyes and counted silently, only managing to count from 1001 to 1015. That's at least a distance of more than ten kilometers, which is too far to fly over in just a few seconds.

Let's try again.

Sheng Qing did not close his eyes this time. The ten-kilometer drive, at a speed of 100 km/h, took a full eight minutes.

Wait, the scene in front of Sheng Qing seemed to freeze for a moment, as if it hadn't had time to load.

"Look." Sheng Qing pointed to the huge billboard in front of him. "Driver drinks a glass of wine, family sheds two lines of tears." For a moment, the word "family" seemed to become Sheng Qing, but upon closer inspection, it turned back to "family."

"What?" Meng Yunxi asked, "Is there a problem?"

The problem is that you react too slowly.

"Watch out! Someone's there!" Sheng Qing caught a glimpse of a figure rushing into the traffic and being smoothly passed by countless vehicles.

Sheng Qing was so shocked that she couldn't speak. But wasn't this a highway? Where did this person come from that rushed up?

The headlights flashed, and in that instant, Sheng Qing saw the road ahead suddenly collapse and sink, and the vehicle was about to fall in. But just a second before it got close, it changed direction, and the entire vehicle overturned and drove up the green belt fence on the side.

Even with the seatbelt, Sheng Qing was still forced to have close contact with the car window.

In contrast, Meng Yunxi, as the driver, held the steering wheel steadily, unmoved by the outside world.

"What are you doing?"

How did you do that?

The two asked the question at the same time.

What do you mean? Sheng Qing blinked. There was no collapsed ground; the vehicle was driving perfectly fine on the flat ground.

Under the illumination of the high beams, countless soft, swaying objects slowly rose from the road surface, like the tentacles of an octopus, causing vehicles to lurch slightly as they passed by.

Beep! Beep! Beep!

Just as Sheng Qing was about to ask a question, a piercing horn blared.

"Meng Yunxi, what's wrong?"

"So sleepy... steering wheel..."

"What?"

beep!

Sheng Qing quickly steadied the steering wheel, then watched helplessly as Meng Yunxi, before she could finish speaking, slumped her head against the steering wheel, honking the horn.

With the incessant honking of car horns in his ears, Sheng Qing felt like he was about to go deaf.

Bang!

Several cars failed to slow down in time and crashed erratically into the green belt.

Fortunately, Meng Yunxi released the accelerator before losing consciousness, and Sheng Qing took over the steering wheel in time. Both of them were wearing seat belts, and the vehicle managed to move forward smoothly for a short distance before coming to a stop.

My head was spinning, and it took me a few minutes to calm down.

Sheng Qing first checked on Meng Yunxi, who had inexplicably fallen asleep, and found that his breathing was normal and his complexion was rosy. He called out to him a few times and shook his arm, but there was no response. It seemed that he was just sleeping.

You didn't get your driver's license for nothing. Even though turning on the hazard lights isn't very useful anymore, and it's too late to set up a warning triangle to alert the car behind you, you should at least move people to a safe area first.

Seeing more and more vehicles spiraling out of control, Sheng Qing was just about to get out and drag Meng Yunxi to safety when another car sped past, narrowly missing the slightly ajar door. Luckily, only the rearview mirror was scratched off.

Sheng Qing rolled down the car window, peeked out slightly, seized the opportunity to jump out of the car, walked around to the driver's seat from the front, and opened the car door with lightning speed, unfastening the safety buckle.

Well, Meng Yunxi was heavier than Sheng Qing had imagined, but despite her seemingly weak and powerless appearance, she actually managed to drag the person to a wide and safe area.

Finally, she had a free hand to dial the police, but the busy signal sent a chill down Sheng Qing's spine. The tingling, itchy sensation at her feet made her unable to think straight.

What is it? Sheng Qing craned her neck and glanced at it out of the corner of her eye. Wasn't that the octopus-like tentacles she had seen before the car accident?

Startled, he didn't even have time to be afraid and jumped far away.

He bent over, panting heavily.

When I straightened up again, my body seemed to have bumped into some kind of invisible barrier.

Sheng Qing reached out and carefully explored, and before she knew it, she had walked several meters along the invisible barrier.

What is this? Is it some kind of secret base? Has technology advanced to this level?

Sheng Qing muttered to himself, momentarily forgetting the incessant honking of car horns. He casually broke off a branch from the roadside and poked at the spot out of reach of his hand; the invisible barrier was still there.

Sheng Qing picked up a small stone from the ground, tossed it high into the air, and the stone stopped at a nearly vertical position before falling straight back down. This was clearly not entirely due to gravity.

Those sci-fi movies weren't watched for nothing; Sheng Qing had a guess in his mind, perhaps...

The horn suddenly stopped. Sheng Qing glanced out of the corner of his eye and saw that the doors of the vehicles that had been forced to stop were being pushed open. The drivers and passengers staggered out of the cars and then moved towards Sheng Qing without looking to the side.

Sheng Qing looked at the spot where Meng Yunxi was lying, and he followed her closely as if bewitched.

"Wake up! What are you doing?!" Sheng Qing had no idea things would turn out this way.

He took a deep breath and charged straight into the crowd. The people did not stop him when they saw him coming.

Sheng Qing emerged from the gap, hesitated for a moment as she passed Meng Yunxi, but still pulled him along.

Meng Yunxi didn't struggle and obediently followed beside him, even starting to run with Sheng Qing.

After running a short distance, Sheng Qing turned around to look when she heard no sound behind her.

The group completely ignored Sheng Qing, instead crowding around him like bewitched, layer upon layer, as if something had a fatal attraction for them.

What exactly are they trying to do by blocking that place?

Sheng Qing was extremely curious and unconsciously took a few more steps forward.

Are they trying to get through that invisible barrier?

Why? How can I get through? What's on the other side of the barrier?

When her arm was tugged, Sheng Qing came to her senses. It turned out that she had been gradually approaching the crowded people step by step.

What does he mean by this? Does he mean he won't let her go?

Sheng Qing's curiosity intensified. Perhaps they weren't attracted, but rather hiding something for some unknown reason.

Sheng Qing thought to herself, then pushed Meng Yunxi's hand away, intending to take things further.

Don't go.

"Why?"

I don't want you to leave.

What kind of nonsensical conversation is this? This doesn't sound like Meng Yunxi at all.

Who exactly are you?

Who can keep you here?

"If I don't want to, no one can keep me here."

Meng Yunxi's face flickered like a short-circuited light bulb. For a fleeting moment, Sheng Qing saw a familiar face, but it was only for a brief moment before returning to normal.

Sheng Qing wondered if she was seeing things. How could her face have ended up on Meng Yunxi's face?
