As soon as Xuan Mingzi's warning fell, a cold wind howled out from the ruins of the "Forgotten City," stirring up dust and fallen leaves on the ground, like countless ghosts swirling and dancing in the air.
Lin Yi and the others immediately became alert. They felt the air around them thicken, like an invisible net that was quietly closing in.
"Something's wrong!" Long Wu roared, his dragon-patterned halberd humming as if sensing the approaching danger.
Chu Yao's slender fingers moved rapidly through the air, and streams of data flashed before her eyes.
"Multiple abnormal energy fluctuations have been detected, and the preliminary assessment is that they are some kind of spatial confinement device." Her cool voice carried a hint of solemnity.
"Spatial confinement?" Lin Yi frowned slightly; this was not a good sign.
In the "Forgotten City," they had already witnessed the power of such traps; one wrong move and they would be trapped, like fish in a barrel.
Before the words were even finished, several dark figures darted out of the shadows like ghosts, moving with astonishing speed.
Dressed in black bodysuits and wielding sharp daggers, they pounced on Lin Yi and his companions like hunting cheetahs.
"Assassin!" Long Wu shouted, and the dragon-patterned halberd in his hand transformed into a golden light, forcing an assassin back.
"Be careful, these assassins are just bait!" Lin Yi saw through their intentions at a glance.
Although the assassins' attacks were fierce, they lacked lethality; clearly, their aim was not to kill them, but to buy time.
Sure enough, just as they were locked in combat with the assassins, the surrounding space began to distort and deform, and invisible energy barriers rose from the ground, enveloping them.
"Damn it, it's a spatial trap!" Long Wu cursed as he slashed at the energy barrier with his dragon-patterned halberd, but it was as if he were hitting cotton, having no effect whatsoever.
"Don't waste your energy. This trap is specifically designed for spatial abilities; brute force won't open it," Lin Yi said calmly, his eyes gleaming with wisdom.
He already had a plan in mind.
Instead of passively waiting for the trap to close, it's better to take the initiative, lure the enemy in, and then trap them like turtles in a jar.
"Chu Yao, help me analyze the weak points of the trap," Lin Yi said to Chu Yao while dodging the assassin's attacks.
"Analyzing... Three weak points have been found. We suggest attacking the front, left rear, and top." Chu Yao's voice rang in Lin Yi's ears like a clear spring.
"Alright!" Lin Yi sneered. He pretended to be flustered and moved closer to the weak point of the trap.
Seeing that Lin Yi seemed to be in trouble, the assassins became excited and attacked even more fiercely, trying to drive him into a corner.
"Haha, kid, you're dead!" An assassin grinned maliciously, thrusting his dagger toward Lin Yi's chest.
"Is that so?" Lin Yi sneered.
Just as the dagger was about to pierce him, he suddenly used a time-space skill to slow down the flow of time around him to the extreme.
In the assassin's eyes, Lin Yi's movements seemed to slow down, while his own movements became incredibly slow, as if he were stuck in a quagmire.
"What's going on?" The assassin was terrified, a sense of foreboding washing over him.
The next moment, Lin Yi's figure appeared behind him like a ghost, and the Time Blade in his hand drew a beautiful arc, severing the assassin's throat.
"You..." The assassin's eyes widened.
Lin Yi's movements did not stop. He moved like lightning among the assassins, and with each swing of the Time Blade in his hand, he took away a life.
The assassins had no time to react; they were like insects trapped in amber, forced to watch helplessly as death descended.
In just a few seconds, dozens of assassins fell into pools of blood.
"That's it?" Lin Yi curled his lip in disdain. The strength of these assassins was simply no match for him.
He turned to look at Long Wu and Su Qing and said, "Let's go meet the mastermind behind this."
The three walked toward the center of the trap, where a powerful energy fluctuation was surging, as if something was about to burst forth from the ground.
"Be careful, they might have another trick up their sleeve," Chu Yao warned.
"I know." Lin Yi
He wanted to see who was plotting against him in the dark!
Suddenly, a chilling laugh echoed through the air, like the hooting of an owl, sending shivers down one's spine.
"Hehe, as expected of the master of time and space, you really have some skills."
That sound...
Lin Yi's heart skipped a beat; he recognized the sound—this was…
"The game has only just begun..."
Meanwhile, at a hidden observation point on the outskirts of the "Forgotten City," shadows writhed as if alive.
A figure shrouded in a wide black robe was watching the entire process of Lin Yi and the others breaking through the formation and fighting back through a water mirror that shimmered with a ghostly light.
In the water mirror, Lin Yi reaped the assassins he had carefully trained as easily as cutting melons and vegetables, his movements were so smooth and fluid that he didn't treat his subordinates like human beings at all.
"Crack!"
With a crisp sound, the ancient cup held in the black-robed figure shattered, and crimson liquid mixed with ceramic shards dripped down his pale, bony fingers.
A rusty, bloody smell filled the air, mixed with a faint, pungent odor like burnt feathers.
“The master of time and space… Heh, you’re quite something.” The mysterious leader’s voice was hoarse and deep, like sandpaper rubbing against a rusty iron plate, each word exuding a chill. “You broke my ‘Infernal Prison’ so quickly and even killed so many of my men… Tsk, I really lost big this time. My mentality is starting to crumble.”
He looked at Lin Yi's calm and collected face in the water mirror, which even had a "that's all?" expression. The sinister look in his eyes almost turned into tangible venom.
Those useless assassins, they brag all day long, but when it really matters, they can't even buy themselves a few minutes of time. It's a disgrace!
"However... the game has only just begun." The mysterious leader slowly stood up, the shattered cup slipping from his hand and crashing to the ground with a dull thud.
He walked to the edge of the observation point, looking down at the "Forgotten City" in the distance, now a ruin, a twisted smile curling at the corner of his mouth, as cold as the Siberian wind.
"Lin Yi, you think this is the end? You're too naive." He slowly raised his hand, and a ball of leaping shadow energy condensed at his fingertips, like a living venomous snake.
"Since conventional methods won't work, then let me show you... an even more desperate experience."
He whispered to the shadowy figure, his voice so soft it was almost inaudible, yet carrying an undeniable command: "Night Owl, it's your turn to step in and present our 'gift'... to this distinguished guest."
The shadow energy vanished instantly, as if merging into the void, leaving only the room's chill and the lingering stench of blood.
