Chapter 39: narrowly escaping a trap, the truth gradually emerges.

The massive boulder overhead, blotting out the sun, brought a suffocating sense of oppression as it crashed down upon them.

If you get hit by this thing, you're probably done for, a sure way to die!

At the critical moment, Lin Yi's eye muscles twitched suddenly, and a strong sense of crisis surged into his heart.

He grabbed Long Wu by the collar and growled, "Hold me tight!" A blinding white light suddenly burst forth, so bright that people couldn't open their eyes.

Strange energy fluctuations filled the air, as if time itself had frozen at that moment.

The boulder remained suspended in mid-air, the dust of the rubble floated motionless, and even Long Wu's terrified expression was frozen on his face.

Lin Yi's lips curled into a slightly amused smile as he murmured to himself, "Now, it's time to witness a miracle..." His fingertip gently touched the colossal, sky-obscuring rock. "Time... pause!"

The boulder froze in mid-air for a moment, as if it had become a prisoner of time.

Lin Yi smiled faintly and easily led everyone through the boulder, as if performing a silent dance.

Behind them, the boulder still hung silently in mid-air, seemingly waiting for a command to thaw it.

"Holy crap, boss, are you using God's perspective?" Long Wu finally came to his senses, his face full of astonishment.

Lin Yi smiled and gently patted Long Wu's shoulder: "You'll get used to it. Let's move on."

They continued deeper into the "Forgotten City," where the landscape grew increasingly ancient and desolate.

The walls were covered with a thick layer of dust, and a faint musty smell filled the air.

After passing through a narrow passage, they arrived at an ancient room.

In the center of the room stood a huge stone table, surrounded by piles of books and scrolls, as if this place had once been a treasure trove of knowledge.

"Chu Yao, come and look at these materials. See if you can find any useful information." Lin Yi took a deep breath and glanced at the mountain of books.

Chu Yao nodded and quickly activated her analysis function.

Her figure moved swiftly through the room, her fingers flying across the pages of the book, occasionally pausing to read carefully.

A faint scent of books filled the air, as if time itself had slowed down.

“This document is very interesting.” Chu Yao’s voice suddenly rang out. She was holding an old parchment scroll in her hand. “It is a historical record about the ‘Forgotten City’, which mentions the connection between the ‘Forgotten City’ and the ‘Ragnarok’ project.”

"What?" Lin Yi was somewhat surprised. He quickly stepped forward, took the parchment from Chu Yao's hand, and scanned the text on it with his eyes.

"The 'Forgotten City' is the remnant of an ancient civilization that once tried to fight against invaders from other dimensions. The 'Ragnarok' project is their last line of defense, a final secret aimed at restarting the world," Chu Yao explained, her voice tinged with excitement.

"It seems that to stop the 'Ragnarok' plan, we must first find the true secret of this civilization." Lin Yi squinted, deep in thought.

Just then, a chilling laugh suddenly came from the corner of the room, and Xuan Mingzi's figure slowly appeared.

His eyes flashed with a cold light, and a sneer hung at the corner of his mouth.

"Do you think you can find the secret of the 'Ragnarok' plan so easily?" Xuan Mingzi sneered, and a ball of pitch-black energy suddenly appeared in his hand, flying rapidly towards Lin Yi and the others.

Without any hesitation, Lin Yi flicked his finger, and a transparent spacetime shield instantly unfolded, blocking Xuan Mingzi's attack.

Ripples spread across the surface of the shield, as if mocking Xuan Mingzi's futile efforts.

"Xuanmingzi, you are courting death." Lin Yi's voice was calm and firm.

"Lin Yi, you are just a mortal. Even if you possess mythical-level skills, it cannot change your fate." Xuan Mingzi's voice was icy cold, as if it came from the depths of the netherworld.

"A mortal? I am no longer a mortal." Lin Yi's lips curled slightly upward.

Xuan Mingzi's eyes flashed, as if he had sensed something, and he suddenly accelerated his approach towards Lin Yi.

A tense atmosphere filled the air; a fierce duel was about to break out.

"Long Wu, Chu Yao, prepare for battle!" Lin Yi's voice was deep and powerful, as if he were commanding an army.

Just as everyone was preparing to fight, Xuan Mingzi's figure suddenly flashed and disappeared into a corner of the room.

Lin Yi's

"Be careful, Xuanmingzi is not simple." Chu Yao's voice carried a hint of worry.

“I know.” Lin Yi nodded, his gaze resolute. “But no matter where he’s hiding, I will find him.”

A tense atmosphere filled the air, as if a storm was about to break.

Lin Yi stood in the center of the spacetime shield, his eyes blazing as if they could pierce through all darkness.

Xuanmingzi's figure remained hidden in the shadows, like a ghost.

"Come out, Xuanmingzi, stop hiding." Lin Yi's voice echoed in the room, carrying an air of arrogant authority.

Suddenly, a chilling laugh came from the other end of the room, and Xuan Mingzi's figure reappeared, his eyes flashing with a cold light and a strange smile on his lips.

"Lin Yi, do you really think you can stop me?" Xuan Mingzi sneered, the energy ball in his hand condensing again, as if ready to launch the next attack at any moment.

At this crucial moment, Chu Yao and Long Wu followed closely behind, and the three of them stood side by side, like an iron wall, fearless and undaunted.

"Even if the sky falls, we must hold it up." Lin Yi's voice was deep and firm, his eyes gleaming with unparalleled fighting spirit.

Xuanmingzi's old face was so gloomy it could drip water; this time it was no longer a tentative little blunder.

He clasped his hands together abruptly, muttering incantations. The surrounding air seemed to be sucked out, becoming thick and oppressive.

Then, not just one, but a whole patch!

The massive shadow energy orbs rained down on Lin Yi and his companions as if they were free, the air crackling and carrying a bone-chilling cold that seemed to freeze the entire space apart!

"Holy crap! Is this some kind of skill supermarket?!" Long Wu exclaimed, instinctively wanting to shrink behind Lin Yi, but he still gritted his teeth, a golden light flashed on his body, and he assumed a defensive stance.

Although this guy is usually carefree and irresponsible, he's not a coward when it really matters.

Lin Yi's expression also became more serious.

He had easily blocked the attack earlier, but now, facing this barrage of attacks, his spacetime shield began to hum, and the ripples on its surface were as rapid as an electrocardiogram before cardiac arrest.

"This guy's got some skills..." Lin Yi muttered to himself, his fingers twitching slightly as he channeled more spacetime power into the shield, attempting to stabilize the situation.

Chu Yao's electronic eye was frantically scrolling through data: "Warning! Large-scale energy impact detected! Intensity... exceeds safety threshold! Immediate evacuation recommended!" Her voice was urgent, clearly indicating that the situation was dire.

"Evade? Where to evade? There's a wall behind us, sister!" Long Wu roared. He tried to throw a punch, but the golden dragon-shaped fist energy was scattered by the dense shadow energy blasts before it even made a ripple. It was a complete gua sha master.

Xuanmingzi looked at their disheveled appearance and let out a strange, cackling laugh. The laugh sounded like rusty iron scraping against each other, sending chills down one's spine.

"Struggle, you ants! Your resistance is meaningless before absolute power!" He raised his hands again, and more dark energy began to gather, clearly preparing an even bigger move.

Lin Yi gritted his teeth. The spacetime shield, under his full effort to maintain, flickered in and out of light, as if it would shatter at any moment.

"Long Wu, Chu Yao, move closer!" His voice was deep and carried an unquestionable command.

Xuanmingzi's smirk deepened. He completely ignored Long Wu, who was still trying to deal damage (though it was useless), and just stared at Lin Yi and the shaky shield in front of him.

"Warm-up is over, little one."
