"The Forgotten City..." Lin Yi murmured as he gazed at the city shrouded in mist before him.
It was daytime, but the sunlight seemed to be swallowed up by some force, leaving only a hazy gray. An ancient and mysterious atmosphere filled the air, much like the smell emanating from the camphor wood chest that the old lady had treasured for many years.
He picked up the mysterious leader who was trapped in time and space. This guy was like a puppet on a string, with lifeless eyes. If it weren't for the rise and fall of his chest, you would think he was carrying a bag of fertilizer.
Chu Yao followed obediently behind Lin Yi, holding a high-tech scanner in her hand, constantly analyzing the surrounding environmental data.
"Beep beep beep—" The scanner suddenly emitted a rapid alarm sound.
"Master, high-energy reaction detected!" Chu Yao said seriously, her beautiful face full of concern.
Lin Yi narrowed his eyes, a slight smile playing on his lips. "Looks like this is going to be interesting."
As soon as Lin Yi stepped into the Forgotten City, he felt a powerful energy fluctuation, like an invisible hand gently pushing him forward.
"This feels interesting." He stroked his chin, looking around at his surroundings with great interest.
This forgotten city truly lives up to its name.
The architectural style is so ancient that it makes you question reality; it feels like any random brick could be displayed in a museum.
The buildings on both sides of the street were dilapidated, with unknown vines climbing the walls, and the air was filled with dust and the smell of decay.
In this eerie environment, the mysterious leader actually started muttering incoherently.
"Twilight is approaching...the gods are falling..."
"This guy's chanting scriptures again." Lin Yi rolled his eyes and turned to Chu Yao. "Can you figure out what he's saying?"
Chu Yao nodded and pointed the scanner at the mysterious leader. "Master, according to the voice analysis, the 'Ragnarok' he mentioned seems to be a code name for a plan."
"A plan?" Lin Yi raised an eyebrow. "What plan?"
"It's unclear at the moment; we need more information." Chu Yao shook her head.
Lin Yi nodded thoughtfully; it seemed this mysterious leader knew quite a lot.
"Take him into custody first, and interrogate him after we find more clues."
Just then, a familiar figure appeared in front of them.
"Su Qing?" Lin Yi was somewhat surprised, not expecting to run into her here.
Su Qing, dressed in a white dress, looked like a fairy descending to earth, forming a stark contrast with the dilapidated city.
She radiated a peculiar light that blended perfectly with the atmosphere of the "Forgotten City," as if she belonged there.
"Lin Yi, you've finally arrived." Su Qing's voice was ethereal and mysterious, carrying an indescribable meaning.
"How did you end up here?" Lin Yi asked, puzzled.
Su Qing smiled slightly, but did not answer his question directly. Instead, she stretched out her slender hand and gently touched the door. A golden light flashed, and a tightly closed stone door in front of her slowly opened.
"Come with me."
Lin Yi and Chu Yao exchanged a glance, both seeing shock in each other's eyes.
The abilities Su Qing displayed made them realize that she might be even more mysterious than they had imagined.
Following Su Qing deeper into the ruins, they arrived at an ancient site.
In the center of the ruins stands a huge stone tablet, covered with densely packed runes.
"What is this?" Lin Yi asked.
“This is the origin of the ‘Ragnarok’ project,” Su Qing said calmly.
Chu Yao immediately stepped forward and used a scanner to analyze the runes on the stone tablet.
"Master, these runes record an ancient prophecy. The prophecy says that invaders from another dimension will descend, and the world will be plunged into endless darkness..."
“The Ragnarok Plan was devised to combat these invaders,” Su Qing added.
Lin Yi stared at the runes on the stone tablet, his heart filled with turmoil.
He finally understood that the world was far more complex than he had imagined, and that he might be shouldering a more important mission than he had ever thought.
"So, the 'Ragnarok' agreement that Xuanmingzi mentioned is..." Lin Yi suddenly realized something and turned sharply to look at Su Qing.
Su Qing's
"Me?" Lin Yi pointed at himself, looking completely bewildered.
“That’s right, because…” Su Qing reached out and gently stroked Lin Yi’s face, “You are…”
"Wait!" A sudden voice interrupted Su Qing. Lin Yi turned around and saw that the mysterious leader had somehow broken free from the spacetime confinement and was pointing at a symbol on the stone tablet with a look of horror. "This symbol... impossible! How could it be here?!"
He suddenly rushed towards the stone tablet as if he had gone mad, pointing a trembling finger at the symbol, "This symbol... is..."
"What is it?" Lin Yi pressed.
The mysterious leader whirled around, his eyes filled with fear and despair. "It's... a sign of the end of the world!"
"A sign of the end of the world?" Lin Yi raised an eyebrow, looking at the mysterious leader who was bristling like a cat whose tail had been stepped on, and couldn't help but think to himself: Dude, your reaction is too exaggerated, making it seem like the end of the world is coming tomorrow... Oh wait, it seems like this stupid game might actually cause the end of the world.
He stroked his chin, his fingertips tracing the cold, rough surface of the stone tablet. The scribbles on it seemed to possess some kind of magic, making one dizzy. The dusty smell in the air seemed to have been settled for thousands of years, carrying a solemn sense of "something big is coming."
"Ragnarok," "Interdimensional Invasion," "World Destruction"... Holy crap, this is a lot of information, I feel like my brain CPU is about to burn out.
Lin Yi took a deep breath, the smell of decay and the unknown choking him and making his nose itch.
He originally thought that getting the mythical class [Time and Space Dominator] was a perfect start, and he could just play around and be done with it. Little did he know that the waters of the "Infinite" game were so deep that Godzilla could drown it, and that Earth was being used as a "testing ground"—it was terrifying to think about, even more thrilling than a horror movie.
That old fox Xuanmingzi is indeed hiding a bunch of secrets.
"It seems I have no choice but to venture into this 'Forgotten City.' I'd be doing a disservice to my abilities if I didn't turn it upside down." Lin Yi muttered to himself, his gaze involuntarily drifting to Su Qing, who was unusually calm beside him.
The faint, soft glow emanating from her seemed out of place in the gloomy, dilapidated environment, yet strangely blended in, as if she hadn't come here for the first time, but rather... as if she had come home.
This girl definitely has a story, and the secrets she holds are probably far more important than what this broken stone records!
"Chu Yao, stay alert, full power scan and record." Lin Yi ordered in a deep voice, his eyes sharp as a hawk's, sweeping over the distorted runes on the stone tablet, past the mysterious leader who was still trembling and questioning his existence, and finally settling steadily on Su Qing, "Su Qing, there should still be a road ahead, right?"
Su Qing met his gaze. Her clear eyes seemed to hold the stars and the sea. A faint, enigmatic smile appeared on her lips as she nodded gently.
She didn't say much, but turned around and walked towards a darker entrance deep within the ruins, an entrance that seemed to devour all light.
Footsteps echoed through the empty ruins, carrying a sense of destiny.
Lin Yi smiled and, without saying a word, followed after her, gesturing to Chu Yao.
He was determined to uncover the truth of this mystery today.
