Chapter 6

"Woo woo woo woo..."

The puppy whimpered enthusiastically and ran over, holding a stainless steel basin in its mouth, and ran towards the young man sitting under the tree.

"Hey, what are you doing here? Eat your meal at home."

The young man under the tree was still in a daze. Seeing the dog so worried about his meal that he wanted to come to him with the bowl in his mouth, he smiled slightly, reached out and touched the dog's head with an intimate tone.

"Woof woof~"

The puppy doesn't listen. The puppy wants to stay with its owner.

The young man had driven the puppy home once before, but the puppy did not listen and came back home with the dog bowl in its mouth.

Looking at the young man squatting on the ground, the puppy pushed the dog bowl it had brought out towards him with great concern, indicating that the young man should eat first.

"I won't eat your food, you can eat it yourself. I'll eat it myself when I get back later."

The young man didn't even touch the food in the puppy's bowl. He reached out to touch it, then ignored the puppy and stared into the distance in a daze.

Ying Huai had just absorbed the purple air in the morning when he looked down and saw the man and the dog.

These two, like Zuzuzu, are frequent visitors to the locust tree. However, he only appears by the tree from the second half of the night to the morning. The rest of the time, he stays at home and doesn't want to be contacted by other people.

Seeing that he had pushed the food to his owner but he still didn't eat it, the dog frowned worriedly, lowered his head and finished his meal. Looking at his motionless owner, he knew that he still didn't want to move, so he turned around and ran away again.

This time his target was an orange tree in a distant village. The puppy was not tall, but fortunately the oranges were also short. He ran around the oranges twice before he identified one of them. He got close, sniffed it twice, and then grabbed it in his mouth and pulled it down.

The orange was obviously not as strong as the puppy's strength, and it quickly pulled the orange off.

He didn't care about his owner who got up and was about to come out behind him, and rushed towards his owner with an orange in his mouth.

The owner, who had just gotten up and came out of the room, wanted to shout when he saw a dog taking his oranges, and made a gesture to hit the dog, but as soon as he raised his hand, he saw the dog's long yellow hair and put his hand down again.

"What's going on outside?"

His wife, who was following behind him, saw his actions and pushed him with some confusion, indicating that he was blocking the road.

"It's Mr. Tang's grandson, the dog that Tang Rufeng brought back to pick oranges."

Hearing his wife's question, the husband turned around and explained to his wife.

"Oh, that's it. Just pick it. It won't eat it anyway."

His wife pushed him away and looked outside. Seeing the dog running towards the locust tree, she sighed softly.

"You know, such a good kid with a bright future, why is he so depressed..."

"Don't worry about it. Just don't show anything when you see people. Just treat it as a normal interaction. Don't sympathize with this person or that person all the time. It makes people uncomfortable, and you think you are being considerate."

His wife nagged him and told him to shut up and stop talking about it.

The young man was aware of how the villagers evaluated him, but he didn't usually interact with these people. Even if he had a vague guess, he forced himself not to care.

He watched his dog go and bring back an orange after a while. He knew that it must be an orange from a villager. He held it in his hand and looked at the dog's expectant look, and he couldn't help laughing.

"You're taking fruit from someone else's house again. Later, grandpa and grandma will come to your house to clean up your stall."

As he spoke, he reached out and gently patted the puppy on the head.

The dog's golden fur shone brightly in the morning sun. Looking at it, Tang Rufeng's mood also improved a lot.

After saying this, seeing that the villagers were about to get up and go out, he stood up with the oranges and prepared to walk towards home.

Before leaving, he stopped twice and looked up at the lush locust tree, as if he was expecting something.

Ying Huai certainly knew what he was expecting. The small bunch of off-white flowers seemed to sway twice in the wind, and then fell to the ground as if the branches could not bear its weight.

The direction of the fall was exactly where the young man was standing.

Looking at the locust flowers in his arms that were just like usual, the young man lowered his head with curved brows.

"Thank you, Godmother. I'm going home."

The young man reached out and touched the bark of Yinghuai tree, then thanked him and left.

Seeing his master's actions, the puppy at his feet rubbed against the tree skillfully, then turned around and followed the young man with his dog bowl in his mouth.

"Finally he left. Luckily he only comes once a day, otherwise I would have to be bald to be able to deliver flowers so smoothly."

Ying Huai looked at the direction the young man left and complained with a chuckle.

Although he was complaining, Ying Huai was still in a good mood.

This child also grew up under Ying Huai's care in the village. Later, he became successful, was admitted to university, and later became an officer and soldier. Every step of his life was smooth and he was very determined.

But it seems that fate is never as smooth as it seems to be. There must be more hardships before it can be called fate.

Two years ago, the squadron this kid belonged to received a mission to carry out a rescue operation. Because he was a technical type, he assisted his comrades in the rescue in the rear.

Who would have thought that during the rescue, the people in that area concealed very important information, fearing that if they knew there was danger inside, they would not save his property. They waited until the rescuers had entered before telling them that there were flammable and explosive items inside and asked them to take his things out as soon as possible.

But this delay was of no avail even if Tang Rufeng tried hard to send a message to his comrades inside. They had gone too deep into the cave, and the explosion happened very quickly, leaving them no time to react. Their entire squadron, except for Tang Rufeng who was coordinating outside, disappeared in the sea of fire.

As soon as this happened, there was a barrage of criticism online. The person was afraid that he would be criticized and his entire life would be targeted, leaving him with no chance of recovery. So he chose to spend money to stir up trouble online, turning his attention to the only survivor in the rescue team.

They portrayed him as worthless, saying he was a coward. While his teammates were charging in the front, he was the only one hiding at the back and managed to survive.

Tang Rufeng became the only survivor of this incident and the most innocent victim.

Later, because of the guilt in his heart and the long-term online violence, he could not bear it anymore and began to develop depression and self-destructive tendencies.

Fortunately, he was discovered and treated in time.

Later, his parents sent him back to Daxi Village in order to prevent him from being exposed to outside noises and being influenced by them.

Most of the people in Daxi Village are now older generations who are reluctant to leave their hometown, while the younger generations are basically making money in big cities outside. The younger generation usually lives with their parents, and from time to time they are sent back to the village to play for a few months and let the elderly at home help take care of them for a while.

Tang Rufeng has been in the village for two years due to health reasons.

Compared to his emaciated state when he first returned to the village, he is now in much better shape. Although he still doesn't like going out and interacting with people, he forces himself to live in a relatively comfortable range and uses reason to suppress the suicidal thoughts that may come at any time.

He wanted to live very much. He didn't want his parents to die at such a young age, nor did he want to disappoint his grandparents who tried hard to accommodate him and wanted him to live a good life.

So every morning, when it was pitch black and the buzzing sound of explosions rang in his ears, bringing him into a negative mood, he would let the comfort dog take him out and find a locust tree to sit under until dawn.

Looking at the rising sun in the sky, he seemed to have the motivation to live again and continued to go home to paint mushrooms.

The two elderly people in the family followed him at first, fearing that something might happen to him. Later, when they saw that he was going to stay with his godmother and had no bad intentions, they felt relieved.

The old man is a light sleeper. Every morning when I hear him go out, I start preparing breakfast as soon as I hear him, and wait anxiously for him to come home for dinner.

It’s not that they don’t want to follow, but the two old men are afraid that if they follow, Tang Rufeng will choose to go somewhere else next time he goes out. If something happens then, they won’t be able to find him and will have to maintain the status quo.

"You're back. Come, let's eat. Grandma has prepared everything. Our dear grandson said he wanted to eat the chive dumplings last night. Try them and see if the taste has changed."

Grandma Tang was sitting at the table waiting, but when she heard some noise at the door, she quickly got up and went out to greet them.

Seeing the puppy circling around her after she entered the door, she happily moved over and took the bowl from the puppy's mouth.

"Our Lao Lao is full, grandma will serve you some more~"

The grandmother didn't know what a comfort dog was, nor did she understand why her grandson would be happier when a puppy stayed with him. She only knew that this puppy was very important to her grandson, so she loved the puppy as well and raised Luo Luo as another grandson.

"Come sit here and eat. Fengfeng, can you help grandpa take a look later? I made the frame you mentioned last time. It looks quite similar to what you want. I wonder if it's the one you want."

Grandpa Tang said this, pointing to a seat next to the square table, and smiled as he assigned his grandson a task to do after dinner.

"Okay, then Grandpa, please help me check if there are any mistakes in the pocket I made."

Tang Rufeng knew that it was two old people taking care of him, and he didn't want him to think too much, so he just followed their instructions and got busy.

Not wanting to go out doesn’t mean you can stay at home and think about all sorts of things. Thinking too much makes it hard to get out of the situation, so the two old people always think about finding something for their grandson to do that is not too heavy but can still kill time.

Tang Rufeng wanted to learn bamboo weaving when he met Grandpa Tang and learned how to weave a cage. He has been learning it for a long time.

The frame he had told Grandpa Tang about before was the new style he had drawn and wanted Grandpa to weave.

After dinner, he went back to the house and took out the little bag he had woven to show his grandfather, asking him for some advice. He felt relieved when he saw that his grandfather could not point out any mistakes.

"What are you putting in there? Do you want grandma to help you?"

The grandmother had just finished cleaning up and was about to go out to pick pumpkins when she saw her grandson squatting in the open space under the eaves with a pile of golden paper in front of him.

"No need, grandma. I can do it myself."

When Tang Rufeng heard what his grandmother said, he shook his head, indicating that he could do it himself.

"Okay, la la la, you stay here and watch over your brother. Grandma is going out to pick pumpkins."

After grandma finished speaking, she reached out and rubbed the dog's head.

"Go ahead, go ahead. I just said I'd help him out, but he said it wasn't a bother, so I let him do it slowly."

Grandpa was taking apart the frame in his hand on the other side. He had made a mistake in weaving one place before. Although Tang Rufeng said it didn't affect anything, he still felt uncomfortable, so he took apart the frame and prepared to weave it again.

Tang Rufeng listened quietly to his grandparents talking. He separated out twenty-one locust flowers that Ying Huai had given him and gently scattered them in the small bamboo bag he had just woven.

Then his fingers flew, and he folded the golden paper several times and put it into the bamboo bag.

Looking at the golden ingots in his hand, grandma calculated the time and realized that it was the day for her grandson's comrades-in-arms to die, so it was time to prepare for the memorial service.
