Chapter 10 Taking care of children

Time is a great healer; it can slowly heal those unseen wounds.

As if waking from a deep dream, Mu Yi'an had been in this unfamiliar dynasty, unfamiliar village, and unfamiliar home for half a month, slowly getting used to the Jiang family's rhythm of life.

Jiang's father, also known as Jiang Xiucai, spent most of his time at the school, and could only be seen in the mornings and evenings. Jiang's elder brother's schedule almost overlapped with his father's, but he had the added task of studying, since becoming a Tongsheng (a student who passed the lowest level of the imperial examinations) was not considered a proper academic achievement.

The school rests for one day every ten days. There are more than thirty students in total, divided into two groups.

One part was an introductory class, where Brother Jiang was responsible for teaching the Thousand Character Classic and the Three Character Classic, focusing on character recognition. The younger generation of the Jiang family were mainly in the introductory class; they were all quite young and had just started school.

One group consisted of students preparing for the scientific expedition. These students were also divided into Class A, Class B, and Class C, based on their different learning progress.

Jiang's father's school charged a moderate fee, neither high nor low, and Jiangjia Village was adjacent to Xinyuan Town, less than five miles away. There were also two schools in the town, one run by a scholar who had passed the imperial examinations and the other by a scholar who had passed the county-level examinations.

Other villages near Jiangjia Village didn't have schools, so those who wanted to study would generally choose the Jiang family's school. Jiang's father was a dedicated teacher, and the food at the Jiang family school was also quite good.

The school provides lunch, so the women of the Jiang family, including the fourteen-year-old sister-in-law, are responsible for feeding all the students at the school, which keeps them quite busy.

The Jiang family owns a large area, with several vegetable gardens, which are their main source of vegetables.

"Daughter-in-law, have you prepared the dishes for lunch?"

Jiang's mother came out of the inner room, looked at the sky, and realized it was probably around 7 a.m., time to prepare lunch.

"Mom, everything is ready. The rice is already in the pot, and the vegetables have been washed. We can start cooking the vegetables after the rice is cooked."

Jiang's sister-in-law had just entered the house to catch her breath when she heard her mother-in-law calling her, so she quickly came out.

The women of the Jiang family no longer need to work in the fields; they are only responsible for preparing three meals a day. This is already considered very fortunate in the entire Jiang family village, as the women of other families also have to work in the fields. After returning home, they still have to prepare food, wash clothes, and tidy up the house—it's truly exhausting.

"That's good. The meals in the school should be served on time and at noon, so that they can't study on an empty stomach."

Jiang's mother put herself in their shoes; her husband and son were also scholars, and she was worried that they wouldn't have enough to eat at school.

"It won't be too late, Mother, don't worry."

"Okay, you should take a break too."

Jiang's mother turned around and went to the vegetable garden, where she spent most of her day.

The Jiang family seemed to be doing well, but they didn't have much wealth. They had limited farmland, and their main source of income was the school's earnings, so Jiang's mother paid close attention to the school's meals.

Mu Yi'an overheard her mother-in-law and sister-in-law's conversation in the inner room, and she wasn't surprised anymore. After all, she had already started taking turns cooking.

"Shao Yun, are you hungry? Would you like some fruit?"

"Mom, I'll eat."

The two-year-old speaks fairly clearly and can express the basic meaning.

A few days ago, she was recovering from her injuries, and Jiang's mother helped take care of the children. Now that she has fully recovered, she needs to take care of the children herself. Fortunately, the original owner's three children are all quite sensible and not prone to crying or fussing. Unlike Jiang's third son, who cries several times a day, either crying or on his way to cry.

Mu Yi'an thought back and realized it was probably because the original owner's family was well-off and doted on their daughter. During the original owner's pregnancy, food and drink were constantly sent over, especially a bowl of goat milk every other day.

Mu Yi'an had heard from a colleague that children cry because they are lacking something in their bodies, and children who are deficient in calcium tend to cry more. The original owner of this body, however, was pregnant with three children, and her family never stopped sending her food and drink; she was truly fortunate.

Mu Yi'an took out an apple and sliced it into thin slices. She wiped Shao Yun's hands clean and let him eat it himself.

"Ah, ah..."

Whether it was the smell or the sound of her brother chewing something, little Jiang Chuyue, who was lying on the bed gnawing on her toes, suddenly stopped.

"Mother, give some to my sister."

"No, your little sister is still too young. She can eat it in a while."

Jiang Shaoyun put the apple he had handed out back into his mouth. He glanced at his sister with regret. What a pity, it was so delicious, but his sister couldn't eat it.

Mu Yi'an learned from the original owner's memories that there were three children in the family: the eldest was three years and ten months old, the second was one year and eight months old, and the youngest was only five months old.

Perhaps because the original owner of this body was healthy and had plenty of breast milk, all three children grew quite large.

Jiang Da Sao's third son, Jiang Shao Ning, is three years and seven months old, but he is a head shorter than Jiang Shao Ming. Jiang Lao San's son, Jiang Shao Kun, is one year and six months old, and he is also a head shorter than Jiang Shao Yun.

Following the original owner's memories and combining them with her own experience, Mu Yi'an has been taking care of the child quite smoothly these past few days, without any major mistakes.

Although she wasn't quite ready to be a mother yet, the children were adorable, and she wouldn't ignore them. Mu Yi'an's greatest strength was her ability to recognize the opportune moment and quickly find a way to benefit herself.

Mu Yi'an found a cloth tiger and put it in Jiang Chuyue's hand for her to hold and chew on. It was all washed clean and sun-dried.

Tomorrow it will be her turn to do it, so she quickly got some work done today and made herself two pairs of underwear.

She really wasn't used to the ancient-style bellyband; it always felt chilly on her back. Besides, the original owner of this body had a good figure and quite full breasts, so without some support, she felt uneasy. She planned to make two simple bras to wear under her clothes, and as for the bellyband, she'd save it for sleeping at night.

Find a piece of white cotton fabric and start cutting it according to your body size.
