Shao Ming was six years old, which was considered quite old in ancient times. If he was from an official family, he would start being taught important principles of life; if he was from a merchant family, he would learn to use an abacus and read account books; even ordinary people would learn to manage daily chores, such as gathering firewood and cutting pig feed.

Is it okay not to study?
