Chapter 154 Jiang's Mother Returned Home

Jiang's mother recovered from her illness, her health was fine, and she was full of energy.

"Second daughter-in-law, I owe you so much this time. Otherwise, my old bones would have suffered a lot."

"Mother, what are you saying? You are my husband's mother, isn't this what we should do?"

Mu Yi'an felt that as long as Jiang's mother was reasonable and they could get along peacefully, Mu Yi'an wouldn't mind spending some money.

“Mother knows what’s going on. Jiang Qi has written down all the money spent on this treatment. When I get back, I’ll have Shuheng and Shuwen pay the money and bring it to you.”

Mu Yi'an didn't respond to this. She didn't care about the few dozen taels of silver, but she couldn't let everyone think that they were rich or that they were being taken advantage of.

Seeing a doctor for Jiang's parents is a minor matter; there will be many more things to deal with in the future, such as relatives' affairs, the next generation's schooling, weddings, funerals, and so on.

"Second daughter-in-law, I'm going back today. I've been away for over a month, and I'm worried about home and your father."

"Wei San will take you later. You can take Granny Xing back with you. Let her take responsibility for your and my father's affairs. I will pay her monthly allowance."

Mu Yi'an made it clear that Granny Xing was there to take care of Jiang's parents, not for the eldest branch of the Jiang family. Mu Yi'an's decision not to give Jiang's mother the indenture, while also providing her with monthly wages, served as a form of constraint.

"You've put your heart into this, Mother understands."

How could Jiang's mother not understand? She knew her eldest daughter-in-law's temperament very well.

Mu Yi'an had Li's wife carry the things prepared for Jiang's mother onto the carriage. Jiang's mother and Granny Xing got into the carriage, and Mu Yi'an and Jiang Qi watched the carriage leave before returning to their room.

When the carriage entered Jiangjia Village, everyone in the village knew that it was the carriage of the young scholar Jiang, and that it was delivering things to him again.

"Oh, Aunt Jiang, you're back! Are you feeling better?"

"Alright, everything's ready!"

"I can tell from your voice that you're all better. It's been almost two months since you left, and it feels like I haven't seen you in ages."

The neighbor's wife is also talkative and speaks quite loudly.

Jiang Da Sao and Jiang Lan, who were in the courtyard, heard it and quickly came out to greet them.

"Mother, you're back. Come in and rest."

Sister-in-law Jiang held onto her mother's arm, and she was very excited.

"mother!"

Jiang Lan felt a little wronged. Her mother had been gone for two months, and her father wouldn't let her go to her second brother's house either. She was left alone at home doing embroidery, which made her extremely depressed.

"Alright, go in first."

Jiang's mother walked into the courtyard, with Granny Xing following closely behind, carrying some things.

Wei San unloaded the items from the carriage, placed them at the door, and then carried them one by one into the old master's living room. He was already quite familiar with the place.

After moving the things, Wei San left, while Granny Xing stayed behind.

"Mother, why didn't that old woman go back?"

At first, Sister-in-law Jiang thought that Granny Xing was sent by Mu Yi'an to escort Jiang's mother. She even muttered to herself that Mu Yi'an was being fussy, sending a servant to make a show of it.

“This is a servant that my second daughter-in-law bought for me to take care of me and your father.”

"Really? Then does someone wash the clothes at home?"

Sister-in-law Jiang never expected such a good thing to happen; she would be free from this burden from now on.

"What are you thinking? This is someone sent by your second daughter-in-law to take care of me and your father, not someone bought to do chores."

Jiang's mother dissuaded her eldest daughter-in-law from her idea. Honestly, there were only the four of them left in the house, and they didn't want to do any work; they just wanted to be lazy.

The entire family, including Shuheng's expenses at the county school, and the food, clothing, and daily necessities of the mother and her children, were all paid for by the elderly couple.

Jiang's wife was embarrassed and felt that her second son's wife was too stingy. Since she had already sent them, what was wrong with sending a couple more servants?

"Mother, has my sister's marriage been arranged?"

"It's settled. Once I'm cured, the groom will choose an auspicious day to deliver the betrothal gifts and formally begin the engagement."

When will you get married?

Jiang Lan was a little nervous. There were only a few months left until the end of the year, and she didn't want to get married after her sister.

"After the New Year."

Jiang's mother couldn't see through her youngest daughter's thoughts; the child's personality was like her aunt's, only thinking of herself.

Jiang Lan breathed a sigh of relief, unaware of the slight disappointment in her mother's eyes.

In the evening, when Jiang's father returned from school, he saw that Shuheng's mother looked energetic and breathed a sigh of relief.

"Grandpa, Grandma, this is what my great-aunt asked me to bring back. She said it's for soaking your feet before bed."

A while after dinner, Granny Xing brought in a basin of hot water and placed it at Jiang's mother's feet. She then turned around and went out again, bringing in another basin of hot water and placing it at Jiang's father's feet.

The water in the basin was steaming, and you could smell the Chinese medicine aroma emanating from it.

"Okay, let's soak our feet. You should go and rest for a while too."

Granny Xing lived in the house that Jiang Lan used to live in, while Jiang Lan moved to the east wing and lived in the room that Jiang Shuyun and the others used to live in.

Chu Tong, who is from Brother Jiang's family, is living in the room that Shao Ming and the others used to live in. Both of them now have their own private rooms.

"I never imagined that we'd be living a life of being waited on in our old age!"

"Shuyun and her second daughter-in-law are filial. As for us, we'll be good old folks who aren't disliked. After Shuheng finishes the autumn examination, we can enjoy our old age in peace."

Jiang's father was also giving his wife a heads-up: they should get less involved in their children's affairs and not rob the rich or the poor, lest they hurt their filial children's feelings.

"I know, I'm not senile. Although I want them to help each other and get along well, the bonds between people vary in depth."

Just look at the second daughter-in-law's attitude towards Jiang Qi and Jiang Lan, and it all speaks for itself. I'm not blaming the second daughter-in-law; it's all Jiang Lan's own doing.

"Jiang Lan, only by truly suffering losses can one truly understand the importance of brothers and sisters."
