Chapter 167 Settling Servants

Back home, Mu Yi'an handed the newly purchased person over to Sister Fang.

"Sister Fang, you're in charge of settling them in. Make sure they wash up properly, especially the two little boys. We have some herbal shampoo that Doctor Chu gave us; boil a pot of it and have them all wash themselves. Make sure they don't have any lice."

“Madam, I understand.”

Sister Fang used to be the head housekeeper by the mistress's side, so she knows all these rules.

Sister Fang led the group to the nearby martial arts training ground. Since there was no room in the hospital, there happened to be a newly built house there, which only accommodated Master Zhao and Wei San.

The Song family of four lived in one room, and the two boys temporarily lived in another room.

The family of three bought for Jiang Qi consisted of the man, Lin An, who was in his early thirties; his wife, Lin Yangshi, who had no name and was a child bride; and their daughter, Lin Wen, who was twelve years old.

The Lin family couple will share a room, while Lin Wen will stay with Wei Yunduo and the others.

Sister-in-law Fang told them to go wash up first, as there was a bathhouse in the martial arts training ground.

Sister-in-law Song and her daughter Song Xiaolan went to the women's bathhouse in the hospital. They were in the back seats, which were for the old women and maids in the house.

Half a bowl of soup was cooked, and each person was given a basin to wash their hair.

"You have to use this shampoo; you can't skip it because it's inconvenient. This is a prescription from the doctor to prevent lice."

When serving the Master, one must be clean, efficient, discreet, and refrain from spreading falsehoods. Remember to keep the Master's affairs to yourself.

Sister-in-law Fang first stated her requirements, then offered some words of comfort. "Our master and mistress are kind-hearted people. As servants, as long as we do our jobs well and keep our hearts upright, we can live a good life."

Fang's wife didn't launch into a long speech; she said what needed to be said, and the rest was up to each person to interpret.

The newcomers, all four members of the Song family except for their two-year-old son, were well-behaved. The two boys, however, had timid eyes; they had probably just been sold.

When they returned, Mu Yi'an had already bought each of them a set of clothes.

These men were all alone; they had nothing but the clothes on their bodies.

Mu Yi'an felt that Accountant Song had really been dealt with badly. Servants like them, who were born into the household or married and had children with their masters, would at most be sent to the estate or, when sold, would at least get something in return.

I never expected it to be this bad; I doubt even he himself expected it to be this bad.

Judging from the couple's pale and weak appearance and their dazed eyes, the incident happened quite suddenly, and they haven't recovered yet.

Mu Yi'an will not get involved in this matter; she will only observe how things develop in the future.

In ancient times, there weren't many people who could read and do arithmetic, and it was quite rare to find one.

Three days passed in a flash, and Mu Yi'an named the two boys.

Jiang Mo was eight years old, and Jiang Yan was seven years old.

There's still quite a bit left at home, so Mu Yi'an contacted Zhao Wu.

“Master Zhao, I have several children at home now, both young and old, and they all need your help. I hope that I can train them so that even if they don’t become martial arts masters, they can still have some fighting skills in the future.”

"Don't worry, madam. I've been learning martial arts from my master in the mountains since I was a child, and I think I've learned quite well. I will pass on everything I've learned to them, but how well they'll learn is something I don't know."

Zhao Wu was a man of few words and had a rather taciturn nature.

"Okay, I understand. Your monthly salary will increase from now on, and you'll be paid the normal salary for a martial arts instructor. Do you have any other requests?"

"No, I'm very satisfied with my life now."

After Zhao Wu left, Mu Yi'an thought that she would have to trouble Butler Li to find out how much a typical martial arts master earns.

There's also Accountant Song, who was sold from the prefectural city. We've learned about his basic situation, so let's use him for a while and see how he goes.

The dental clinic that Mu Yi'an frequented was, in modern terms, a chain institution.

The main owner is in the prefectural city, and has related businesses in various counties below, so they share information.

That's why Mu Yi'an likes to go to this dental clinic; she feels it's the best option.

The servants' affairs were over, and they were adapting to their new environment. Mu Yi'an and the others were also getting used to their presence.

The Lin family of three, including Mu Yi'an, have already said that they will marry into the Chu family with Jiang Qi, and the indenture has been given to Jiang Qi.

Before getting married, Jiang Qi had to learn how to manage the servants, since the Chu family also had servants.

Song Wen started learning how to manage the household affairs from Steward Li, while his wife, Sister-in-law Song, followed Sister-in-law Li. With more people in the house, the kitchen was always busy. As for the hair-combing chores they had done before, Mu Yi'an and the others didn't need them for the time being.

Song Xiaoshan was a little over two years old, and Song Xiaolan was five. They both learned martial arts from Master Zhao. Song Xiaolan would become Chuyue's personal maid from now on. Although she was the only maid at the moment, she was still Chuyue's head maid.

Jiang Mo and Jiang Yan also practiced martial arts, and for the time being, they didn't need to serve Shao Ming, since they were illiterate.

The family has two children and lives in a village in another county.

One was orphaned and sold by his uncle and aunt; the other was sold by his stepmother after his mother's death.

Mu Yi'an plans to practice martial arts in the mornings and spend half an hour in the afternoon reading for all the children, including the older girls.

Wei Yunduo is illiterate, but Li Mei and Fang Mianhua know a little bit about them.

Mu Yi'an's decision shocked the servants in the household.

"Madam, are you telling the truth?"

"Really, everyone needs to be literate so they won't be easily fooled in the future. I hope you can live happily here and consider the Jiang family your true home."

Only when one truly accepts something can one do it well and avoid easily betraying their master.

Mu Yi'an did not want such a thing to happen; it wasn't easy for her to raise someone.
