I opened my eyes, and the sky was still so blue, without a single impurity, like a piece of blue silk!
The fragments flashing through their minds reminded them that those were other people's lives, and that their lives would one day follow.
"Hey, Jiang Shuyun, are you awake?"
"Yes, I'm awake."
"Is a movie playing in your head? A really weird movie?"
"Yes, it's there."
Mu Yi'an felt the soft grass beneath her, unlike the hard steel plates of the elevator.
"Waaah... Did we really transmigrate into someone else's body, forced to give up our own lives, and can we never go back?"
"That should be the case. Aren't you quite familiar with time-travel literature?"
Although Jiang Shuyun had never read any so-called time-travel novels, she could guess what kind of story they were without even thinking.
"Jiang Shuyun, which dynasty is this? The Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms, Tang, Song, Yuan, Ming, or Qing?"
It's not that Mu Yi'an is bad; as a science student, she's already practically forgotten the ancient history she learned before. The ancient history she can remember is all from movies and TV dramas, which have been embellished.
"No, this is the Dali Dynasty, a dynasty we've never heard of. There's no Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties, no Three Kingdoms, and certainly no Tang, Song, Yuan, Ming, or Qing Dynasties! This is more like the other spatial dimensions you mentioned, the secret base that even Einstein didn't discover."
Jiang Shuyun tried hard to search her mind for useful information about this era's landmark.
"Is another spatial dimension, like Ye Qingmei described, where humanity experienced an ice age and had to start all over again?"
"I don't know who Ye Qingmei is, nor do I know what the Ice Age is. This is a completely new, hybrid era."
The feudal dynasty system already possessed papermaking, gunpowder, glass, soap, corn, sweet potatoes… products from different eras, yet they all appeared at a single point in time.
Jiang Shuyun rummaged through her mind and found a few useful pieces of information, all of which were about this era.
"Wow..."
Mu Yi'an went from sobbing to wailing, tears streaming down her face.
"I don't want to stay here. What does the Ice Age or spatial dimensions have to do with me? I want to go back, to go home."
I still have family waiting for me: a caring younger brother and a talkative mother. Although she threatened to cut ties with me if I didn't get married, it was just talk. And then there's my dad, an old man who's slow to adapt to new things, who secretly learned to record videos and send them to me.
I have a house, a car, savings, a stable job with paid summer and winter vacations, and my dog. What will happen to him if I don't go back? He'll starve to death.
"Waaah... God, please, send me back! I'm not a staunch bachelor anymore. I'll go back, go on blind dates, get married, and try to have three to five kids to raise the country's birth rate!"
Mu Yi'an cried and shouted, not even knowing what she was saying. She was not an orphan and could not start another life without any worries like the heroine in the novel.
"Hiccup...hiccup..."
Jiang Shuyun felt extremely sad upon hearing Mu Yi'an's words.
Although his parents didn't care much about him, they were only focused on their own pursuits, constantly exploring the world, and now they don't even know which remote alley they're in.
But he's already in his forties, has lived a comfortable life for half his life, owns a house, a car, and a job, and has enough savings to last him a lifetime. He doesn't want to start all over again.
He wanted to cry too, but looking at the woman in front of him with snot and tears streaming down her face, he felt he couldn't cry anymore. Maybe the woman scared him back; she was too good at crying.
"Jiang Shuyun, let's think of a way to get back. Let's smash our heads against trees, jump into the river, roll down the mountain..."
"In the novels you've read, are there any examples of characters successfully returning home? What methods did they use?"
"Waaah... No one went back. They don't want to go back. They have no ties. But I want to go back. I don't want to stay here. I want to go home."
Mu Yi'an never considered herself a weak person. From going to university in a mountain village to gradually establishing herself in the city, she was never weak. She always clearly knew that crying wouldn't solve anything.
"Don't think about it too much. The fact that we've come this far means we can never go back. I feel like my body is being torn apart from this height."
Jiang Shuyun knew that in that dimension, they would already be a pile of minced meat. From dozens of stories high, with the elevator plummeting downwards, how could they possibly have any hope of survival?
"Really? I didn't feel any pain and I was numb, but now I feel pain."
Mu Yi'an's voice had changed. She had been so focused on crying that she hadn't felt the pain. Now that she had calmed down a bit, the stinging pain in her arm was very noticeable.
"Are you hurt? Let me see."
Jiang Shuyun stood up and looked at the woman whose eyes were swollen from crying and whose nose was red. She was completely different from the woman he had seen when he first opened his eyes.
Where does it hurt?
"My arm is burning hot."
Mu Yi'an raised her arm, but unfortunately saw nothing but wide sleeves.
Jiang Shuyun carefully rolled up Mu Yi'an's sleeve; his arm was chafed and oozing oil.
"My arm is scraped, and it hurts a lot when it touches my clothes. Let me see if there's anything I can use to bandage it."
Jiang Shuyun looked around awkwardly, not even knowing what he was looking for.
"You're obviously a pampered young master who doesn't understand worldly affairs. This is the wilderness. Instead of looking for anti-inflammatory and hemostatic herbs, are you looking for gauze and iodine?"
