Chapter 209 A Feast for the Mu Family

It took Mu Yi'an six or seven days to settle things at home.

Inside the courtyard, Sister-in-law Li was still in charge of the kitchen, with the newly arrived Granny Liang assisting her and washing the clothes for the family of five.

Sister-in-law Fang and Sister-in-law Wei followed Mu Yi'an, accompanied her when she went out, managed the accounts in the inner courtyard, and took care of the three children.

Fang Mianhua and Wei Yunduo were the head maids in the household, both fifteen years old. Li Mei and Wei Xi were the second-class maids, thirteen years old.

Song Xiaolan is Chuyue's maid. Jiang Mo, Jiang Yan, Li Qiang, and Wei Nan, along with Shao Ming and Shao Yun, all learn martial arts from Zhao Wu.

In the outer courtyard, Butler Li is the head butler of the household, while Wei Fu is considered the external butler, responsible for external affairs and matters concerning Jiang Shuyun.

Zhao Wu was in charge of teaching the children martial arts and was also the head of the family's guards.

Li Li and Wei Dong followed Jiang Shuyun; one was a scholar, the other a warrior; one was seventeen, the other sixteen; both were quite steady.

Old Man Wei guarded the main gate, while Old Woman Wei watched the second gate and sometimes helped out in the kitchen.

After making arrangements for everyone, Mu Yi'an gave them a speech.

"I've gathered everyone together today because there's something I need to clarify with you all."

Mu Yi'an stood in front of the main courtyard, while all the servants stood in the courtyard.

“Every family has its own rules. In our family, there are only a few people, and people are only simple. Our requirements for you are also simple: do your own thing and don’t have any ulterior motives.”

The boys and girls in the family, when they reach a certain age, should get married. But they can't do whatever they want in private. If they break the rules, then I'm sorry, you won't be tolerated here.

Mu Yi'an just wanted a peaceful life and didn't want her household to be filled with chaos and disorder.

Wherever there are people, there is a social hierarchy. However, she wanted to make it clear from the outset that if anyone broke the rules, she wouldn't keep them around.

“We understand, madam.”

Steward Li took the lead, and the others followed suit, pledging their loyalty.

"Family matters are strictly confidential. You all know what's going on. If you feel you can't follow the rules, go directly to Butler Li later and have him take you to the brokerage firm so we can all part amicably."

Mu Yi'an waved her hand, dismissing them all.

Butler Li took the man to the outer courtyard. Mu Yi'an told Mianhua and Yunduo to hurry up and sew clothes, as Shaoming and Shaoyun would be going to school in a few days.

Jiang Shuyun went to the academy and asked the familiar teacher about the schools in the west of the city.

Many of the teachers at the academy lived in the western part of the city, and they were very familiar with the area.

After careful consideration, a school was selected that was run by a scholar who had passed the imperial examinations and two scholars who had passed the county-level examinations.

It's not far from their home, just a ten-minute walk.

There were more than thirty students in the school, divided into three classes, all of whom had not taken the imperial examination to become scholars.

Jiang Shuyun inquired and learned that Yuan, the scholar who had passed the imperial examinations, had given up taking the exams, and the school had been open for four or five years. During this time, many students had passed the county-level examinations and become scholars.

The two scholars were skilled in mathematics and poetry, and could also teach music and painting.

Jiang Shuyun took her two children to register; the early childhood education school had an entrance exam.

Yuan, the scholar, had high expectations for his students, not only in terms of talent but also in terms of basic moral principles.

Shao Ming and Shao Yun were taken to take the exam, but Jiang Shuyun was not allowed to go in with them.

The time it takes for an incense stick to burn.

"Go back and prepare your things. Come back to study in three days. Jiang Shaoming will go to Class B, and Jiang Shaoyun will go to Class C."

Yuan, the scholar, did not appear dignified at all, and spoke in a slow and unhurried tone.

"Thank you, Master!"

Jiang Shuyun left the school with her child, and the child's schooling issue was resolved.

With the important family matters resolved, everything else becomes much easier.

The carriage stopped in front of the Jiang residence. Jiang Shuyun got out of the carriage and saw the plaque she had written. The two characters "Jiang Residence" looked grand and imposing, quite nice.

"Dad, what are you laughing at?"

Shao Yun saw his father staring intently at their front door, a wide grin spreading across his face.

"What do you think of the words on the doorplate?"

"What do you mean 'how'? It's just a word, isn't it? Mother, I'm back."

Shao Yun didn't understand and ran into the yard shouting.

"Father, your calligraphy is powerful and vigorous, beautiful calligraphy!"

Shao Ming's handwriting was taught by his father, and he felt quite good about it.

"Son, you have good taste."

Jiang Shuyun patted Shao Ming's head, and the two of them went home together.

"Yi'an, the school matter is resolved. Go to the school in three days. Shao Mingyi's class and Shao Yunbing's class. Prepare for the apprenticeship ceremony."

Is there any particular reason for this class assignment?

Mu Yi'an thinks Shao Ming is doing well?

"Class A consists of those who have passed the preliminary examination and are preparing to take the county-level examination. Class B consists of those who have studied quite well and can try taking the examination in a couple of years. Class C consists of those who have received some basic education but whose foundation is not yet solid."

"Oh, I understand. The apprenticeship ceremony has been prepared, and everything is ready."

Mu Yi'an also experienced the anxiety of being a parent. Choosing a school for your child is a concern not only for modern parents, but also for parents in ancient times.

"By the way, Shuyun, are you also going to teach at the academy soon?"

"Yes, I'm going the day after tomorrow."

The house is all tidied up, and a month has passed. Jiang Shuyun is going back to work.

"Then let's invite Uncle San's family over for a get-together tomorrow."

"Sure."

Jiang Shuyun thought it was perfect; he could get everything done before work started. Otherwise, as a newcomer to the academy, he wouldn't be able to have the same leisurely life as in his previous life.

"Okay, I'll go write the invitations."

Mu Yi'an returned to his study and wrote an invitation, which he then had Sister Wei take to the front yard and give to Steward Li, so that he could send someone to deliver it.

Mu Yi'an then invited Sister Li, Sister Fang, and Sister Wei, who had returned, to discuss tomorrow's menu together.

“Although we’re inviting family members, we can’t be too casual. Sister Wei, you’re originally from the prefectural city, so why don’t you and Sister Li come up with a menu together?”
