When Jiang Shuyun returned home from the academy, she learned that her parents had already arrived.
"Father, Mother, how are you feeling? Is there anything wrong with your body?"
"No, everything is fine. Yi'an has already found a doctor to examine us."
Jiang's mother looked at her son in his long gown. He was still the same person, but something seemed different.
"How are you feeling now that you've been at the academy for a while?"
Looking at his refined and cultured second son, Jiang's father saw that although he was not yet thirty and looked very young, he was already a proper teacher.
A teacher's duty is to impart knowledge, teach skills, and resolve doubts!
"Fortunately, I teach the class of scholars who passed the imperial examinations, and I mainly teach the Four Books."
Jiang Shuyun changed her clothes and talked to her father about the academy.
"Father, please stay a while longer this time. There are many bookstores in the prefectural city; you can go and have a look at some books if you have nothing to do."
Our academy's study has a large collection of books, some of which can be borrowed. I have the right to borrow books; you can borrow them and also make copies.
Jiang Shuyun also wanted to copy those books so that Shao Ming and the others could read them later.
However, he has just started teaching and has a lot to do, so he hasn't had time to spare yet.
Once he finishes writing the "lesson plan," lecturing will be much easier.
However, lesson plans were not easy to write in this era, unlike in modern times, where lesson plans for each subject are largely similar and do not require much effort.
Ancient imperial examinations covered a wide range of knowledge, and the focus of each exam varied, making it difficult to identify key points, predict questions, or find a single correct answer.
"Can I borrow it?"
Jiang's father was a little excited. Although he had given up the imperial examinations, he still loved reading.
Books are also a form of wealth.
Many ancient books and rare copies are in the hands of a few people.
"Some books cannot be taken out of the study, but some can. Although they are also handwritten copies, they have been proofread many times and are without errors."
The academy also provided a place for students to copy books. Students who needed to could copy books in exchange for payment, which was higher than the prices in bookstores.
"Okay, okay, you can borrow one back. I'll read it first, and then I'll copy it down to leave for the children."
Jiang's father found something to do. Since handing the school over to Shuheng, he has been planting flowers and reading books every day, though his days are still somewhat dull.
"Father, don't rush. Rest for a few days first, and then go to the estate to take a look. Our academy is near our estate, less than three miles away."
"Really? That's a pretty good location."
Jiang's father realized he had been too hasty and felt a little embarrassed.
"Master, Madam, dinner is ready."
Sister-in-law Li came in at just the right time. Jiang Shuyun and Mu Yi'an got up together and let Jiang's parents walk in front. Shao Ming was supporting his grandfather, and Shao Yun followed suit, supporting his grandmother's arm.
Chu Tong and the other two, who were a little more familiar with each other, followed behind.
Dinner consisted of home-style dishes, including meat, vegetables, and seafood.
Mu Yi'an believes that people should eat whole grains and not eat too refined foods.
Therefore, every meal requires Sister Li to have a balanced diet of meat and vegetables, and every meal must include seafood, whether it is fish or something else.
Mu Yi'an and her family were used to it, but Jiang's parents felt the food was too good and assumed it was specially prepared by their second daughter-in-law.
Chu Tong and Chu Qing felt that their second uncle's house was nice and comfortable, and every day felt like Chinese New Year.
Jiang's mother wanted to say something to tell her second daughter-in-law not to spend so much money. But she swallowed the words back down.
Never mind, she'd better not say anything more. The second daughter-in-law is shrewd; she should just enjoy herself.
The family sat together for dinner in a lively atmosphere, without any of the usual rules about not speaking while eating or sleeping.
During the day, everyone is busy with their own things, and they can only get together to talk during dinner time.
"Mother, is the estate ready? Have you set up a training ground for me?"
"It's not finished yet. After the house is built in a few days, I'll have Master Zhao pick a spot and have someone build you a training ground."
"Mom, you're so good to me, I love you!"
Shao Yun had a sweet tongue and kept talking non-stop, which made Jiang's parents feel a little uncomfortable, especially with some of the things she said, which made them inexplicably a little shy.
"Dad, I want a rocking horse, a big swing, and a place to swim."
"Okay, I'll have Butler Li take care of it for you then."
"Wow, Daddy is the best! I love you!"
Jiang Shuyun felt so sweet inside listening to her daughter's words!
Mu Yi'an glanced at the father and son, clearly ignoring her completely.
"Mom, I love you too!"
Chu Yue was very perceptive; she immediately tried to charm her mother, otherwise, if her mother objected, her father wouldn't be able to do anything about it.
"Eat your meal, and after that, take your older and younger sisters for a stroll in the yard."
"I understand, Mother."
Mu Yi'an couldn't do anything with this girl; she was always grinning and slippery.
Shao Ming looked at his mischievous younger brother and sister with a smile on his face.
"Mother, I want a fishing rod. Are there any fish in the pond on the estate?"
There are fish, but we don't know their size or species.
Shao Ming, fishing is fine, but you can't neglect physical exercise. Didn't your dad say that scientific expeditions are also physically demanding?
Without good health, performance in the exam room will be affected.
"I understand, Mother. I will practice with Master Zhao for a while every day before going to bed."
Shao Ming understood his mother's worries. He didn't like physical activity and preferred to read quietly or fish. His mother would always time it perfectly to wake him up and get active, a task that Jiang Mo and the others carried out very thoroughly.
