The wheat harvest holiday is over, and Mu Yi'an is taking the children, who haven't had enough fun, home.
The wheat harvest on the estate has been completed, and Steward Li and Xu Wu have gained a preliminary understanding of the fifty-seven tenant farmers.
Mu Yi'an stopped worrying about the rest and left it to Butler Li and Xu Wu.
The carriage stopped, and Old Man Wei, seeing his own carriage had returned, quickly opened the door to greet it.
"Father, Mother, let's go inside and rest for a while."
Jiang Shuyun's academy started classes first, and by this time, they were already giving lectures.
Mu Yi'an helped Jiang's mother out of the carriage, while Fang's wife and the others carried Chu Yue and the others down from the carriage.
The alley, which had been quiet for several days, suddenly became lively. The children ran into the courtyard, and Mu Yi'an and the others followed them in.
The main courtyard had been uninhabited for several days, so Sister Fang and a few others started wiping away the dust with cotton.
Jiang's parents took the children to the backyard, where there was a small garden. On their way back, they dug up some flower seedlings from the estate and planted them together.
Things on the estate are basically sorted out. After buying two more shops, things at home will be mostly taken care of for the time being.
Mu Yi'an looked at her notebook again, marking the things she had finished and the things she hadn't finished yet.
"Madam, the rooms are all ready. I'm going to buy groceries."
Sister-in-law Li, carrying her vegetable basket, said goodbye to Mu Yi'an and then went out.
Mu Yi'an was also tired, so she decided to ignore it for now, take a nap, and talk about it in the afternoon.
After having a simple home-cooked meal at noon, and after Jiang's parents and children went for their afternoon nap, Mu Yi'an entertained Meng Yaxing.
"Mrs. Jiang, you're finally back. I have two suitable shops here, but I haven't seen you on my two trips."
"Thank you for your hard work, Mengya. We just got back from the estate. Is the shop still there? Where is it located?"
Sister-in-law Wei brought over two cups of tea and stepped aside.
"Mrs. Jiang, there are two shops. One is nearby, at the next street corner. It used to be a general store, but the owner had to go back to his hometown due to family matters and entrusted our brokerage to help sell it."
There was another one in the north of the city, which used to be a teahouse, a spacious two-story building. The teahouse was poorly managed, and the owner planned to sell the building and go to the capital to make a living.
Meng Yaxing was a prudent person who always investigated things thoroughly.
Mu Yi'an knew the general store at the street corner; it was in a good location, right at the street corner, and very spacious.
She didn't go inside and wasn't sure how big it was. The area in the north of the city was a commercial district, but Mu Yi'an didn't know the specifics.
"Meng Yaxing, tomorrow I'll go check out the small building in the north of the city. The shop at the street corner, I'll see what's inside. The storefront looks spacious and bright."
“Mrs. Jiang, the shop at the street corner is very spacious, measuring four zhang wide from east to west and five zhang long from north to south. It used to be two shops, but it was later bought by a landlord and turned into one large shop.”
The brokers had a comprehensive understanding of the land, houses, and shops they handled.
Mu Yi'an calculated in her mind that one zhang was about 3.3 meters, and four zhang would be more than 13 meters. The area was not small, larger than the shops in the county town, which was enough for her needs.
“Meng Yaxing, I’ll check them all tomorrow. If it’s okay, we’ll go to the yamen to transfer the property and change the deed.”
“Alright, Mrs. Jiang, I’ll be waiting for you at the shop at the street corner with the keys tomorrow morning at 9:00 AM.”
Meng Yaxing was overjoyed. He was basically able to sell the two shops, and all the extra trips he had made were worthwhile.
In the western part of the city, although the families were mostly scholars, their means of livelihood were limited, making them relatively affluent. The shops at the street corner were quite large and expensive, beyond the reach of ordinary people.
The two-story building in the north of the city was a little smaller than the surrounding shops.
It's not good enough for wealthy families, and small businesses can't afford it either; it's a half-baked product.
Meng Yaxing didn't know what kind of business Mrs. Jiang wanted to do, but judging from her requirements, both shops seemed quite suitable.
After seeing Meng Yahang off, Mu Yi'an started calculating the accounts again. Two shops would cost at least several thousand taels of silver. After some simple tidying up, it wouldn't cost much more.
Previously, when Steward Li returned from the county town, he brought back the profits from the vegetable shop and the Shuwen Food Shop, and there were still more than 20,000 taels of silver in the family.
After selling the watermelons and cantaloupes, they can earn more than 10,000 taels of silver, so for now, their funds are relatively plentiful.
It's June now, past the optimal time for planting astragalus; we'll have to wait until autumn.
Fruit trees can't be planted now; they'll have to wait until next spring. We need to hurry and build a livestock farm and cultivate vegetable gardens.
Mu Yi'an highlighted these two points and urged Butler Li to follow up immediately.
Fortunately, Steward Wei is coming back; otherwise, Steward Li would really be too busy by himself.
That evening, Mu Yi'an told Jiang Shuyun about the shop.
"That one at the street corner looks nice, quite spacious. What are you planning to do with the two-story house in the north of the city?"
Jiang Shuyun had been to the north of the city. The shops and restaurants there were very large and luxuriously decorated; it was a gathering place for merchants.
"I haven't decided yet. I'm thinking of opening a barbecue restaurant or something, but I don't have enough manpower at home, and the things on the estate can't be finished in a short time."
That's probably it for this year. If possible, we can talk about it again after the New Year. If a suitable shop comes along, we'll buy it now, so it won't be hard to find one later.
Mu Yi'an thought that if the location of that two-story building was not bad, she would buy it first, and then decide what to do with it later.
"Okay, I support whatever decision you make. Honey, the shop is there, it's not going anywhere, shouldn't we take a break? We've been busy with the wheat harvest lately, we haven't gotten any real work done."
"What important business haven't you done?"
Mu Yi'an was momentarily stunned, thinking about the shop.
