Mu Yi'an boiled the goat milk. The milk from the two ewes filled two and a half earthenware pots.
"Sister-in-law, take this can of goat milk back and let it cool for a while. Give it to the child after dinner. We pumped a little too much today because it's the first time. There won't be this much tomorrow. Pump a little less in the morning and pump again in the evening, so the child can drink it twice a day."
The temperature here is around 20 degrees Celsius, and Mu Yi'an was worried that it would spoil if left for a day, since there are no refrigerators here like where they are.
"Okay, I'll do whatever my sister-in-law says."
“Sister-in-law, let’s each give a portion to our parents-in-law so they can have some nourishment too.”
Mu Yi'an knew that at this time, filial piety was important, and good things should be given to the elders first.
"I know, Second Sister-in-law, I almost forgot if you hadn't mentioned it."
Li Qiuniang really didn't expect this. It's not that she's unfilial; every time she goes back to her parents' home and brings back food and other necessities, she also sends a portion to her parents-in-law. This time, she really didn't expect it because not everyone drinks goat milk.
Today, it was Sister-in-law Jiang's turn to cook. Mu Yi'an went back to her room to help Chu Yue with her bodily functions, and she heard the noise.
These three children have excellent digestion and regular bowel movements. They have a bowel movement almost every morning, and it's a banana-shaped poop – they're super healthy.
The goat milk is still piping hot, so don't rush to drink it. You can drink it after you finish your meal.
After breakfast, Mu Yi'an and Li Qiuniang each brought a bowl of goat milk and knocked on their parents-in-law's door to enter their room.
"Father and Mother, I boiled some goat milk this morning. It tastes pretty good. My husband said that goat milk is good for children and the elderly. The milk from the two goats is just enough for Shao Yun and the rest of us to drink."
"It's fine for the children to drink. Your father and I are in good health."
After hearing what her second daughter-in-law said, Jiang's mother subconsciously wanted to save the good things for her children.
"Mom and Dad, drinking more goat milk now can prevent leg cramps later. Besides, there's just enough goat milk right now. My sister-in-law said that Shaoqin and the others can't stand the taste of goat milk. That's what she told us when we were discussing buying some dairy goats."
Mu Yi'an didn't care who ultimately drank the goat milk, but she made it clear from the beginning that her sister-in-law had refused when they bought the goat. If her child wanted to drink it later, it wasn't her problem; she was responsible for her own child.
"Okay, I got it. Your dad and I will drink it."
Mu Yi'an and Li Qiuniang bowed and left their parents-in-law's room.
"Second sister-in-law, do you think Father and Mother will drink it?"
Whether we drink or not is not up to us, but our sentiments have been conveyed. As for how the gifts will be arranged, we won't worry about that.
After leaving the main room, the two sisters-in-law whispered a few words to each other before returning to their respective rooms.
The two rooms on the east side of the main house were where Jiang's parents lived. The front of one room was a reception area, and the back was an inner room. The front of the other room was Jiang's father's study, and the back half was the room of Jiang Lan, his unmarried sister-in-law.
"Shuheng's father, do you think our second daughter-in-law is afraid we'll give the goat milk to other people?"
"Who's going to drink it? The eldest son's children? Don't they not drink?"
Jiang's father didn't think too much about it. He had heard from Shu Huan's mother that they were going to buy sheep, but the eldest daughter-in-law said that the children in the family didn't drink goat milk, so they weren't going to buy any.
"The goat milk that my second daughter-in-law brought this time is different. It doesn't have a goaty smell and it's very fragrant."
"Then don't meddle. If the eldest daughter's children want to drink it, let them buy sheep and milk them themselves. It's not just about a bowl of sheep milk; it also involves cutting grass for the sheep, milking the sheep, and boiling the milk. Since it doesn't have a muttony smell, then something must have been added, and all of that costs money."
We're just an ordinary family, we don't have much wealth. Now Shaoqin thinks everything in the house belongs to him, that's wrong. I don't believe the eldest son has any special privileges and that his brothers should unconditionally obey him. A person should do what they are capable of and live a life commensurate with their abilities.
After drinking the goat's milk and wiping his mouth clean, Jiang's father hurried to school, as it was getting late.
Shaoming, who had drunk the goat milk, had already arrived at school. Shaoyun was even faster; she had gulped it down long ago and was already running around playing in the yard.
In the west wing, Shao Kun also drank goat milk without sugar, and he drank it quite happily.
"Mother, no."
"That's all. Shao Kun is amazing, he drank it all."
Li Qiuniang never expected that her little guy could actually drink it all. She thought he'd slowly grow up to be as strong as Shao Yun. Li Qiuniang drank the rest of the goat milk. Her delivery of Shao Kun hadn't been smooth; although she hadn't been injured, her body wasn't as strong as before, and she could feel it.
My second sister-in-law said that goat milk is good for women, and she insists on drinking it. She plans to have several more children in the future, as one child is too lonely and will have no help later. No matter how good the relationship between cousins is, there's still a difference in social standing.
Li Qiuniang brought Shao Kun out to play with his brother. Shao Yun's loud laughter grew louder and louder in the courtyard, and Shao Kun couldn't wait any longer.
Mu Yi'an also brought Xiao Chuyue out, and the three little ones started another day of games.
Mu Yi'an and Li Qiuniang asked Jiang's mother to help look after the child, and the two of them went to cut grass for the sheep again with their baskets on their backs.
In the west room of the main house, Sister-in-law Jiang rested for a while before preparing lunch. Jiang Chutong put down her embroidery and looked at her mother.
"What's wrong? Are you tired?"
"Mom, why does the goat milk that my second aunt cooks taste so good, and it tastes different from the goat milk that my maternal grandmother cooks?"
"Even Mother doesn't know."
Sister-in-law Jiang hadn't expected Mu Yi'an to remove the goaty smell from the milk. If she had known, she would have bought a goat too. However, considering the price of a ewe, she gave up.
The next morning at breakfast, Jiang Shaoqin said to his father, "Dad, I also want to drink some delicious goat milk. Ask my second aunt to give me a bowl."
Jiang Shuyun remained silent, waiting to see what his older brother would say and what his father's attitude would be.
