Before dinner, Chu Nansheng's second senior brother and his family arrived.
"Jiang Qi, this is my second senior brother and sister-in-law. Come and greet them."
Chu Nansheng introduced the family of four who entered to Jiang Qi.
"Hello, senior brother! Hello, sister-in-law!"
Jiang Qi looked at the couple; they were both rather serious people, quite the opposite of Senior Brother Fang and his wife.
Hello, sister-in-law!
Jiang Qi felt a little intimidated by the serious expression and rigid manner of the second senior brother's wife.
Chu Nansheng squeezed his wife's hand. His second senior brother and his wife were both serious people who always made people inexplicably nervous.
"Come and sit down, everyone!"
The master spoke, and all three families sat down.
"Is Xingchu still studying?"
"Yes, Master's wife, I'll be leaving the stage next year."
The second senior brother's son, Sun Xingchu, is already fourteen years old and is preparing to take the imperial examination to become a scholar.
"Pay attention to balancing work and rest; your health is more important."
"Okay, I understand."
Second Sister-in-law answered in a clear and concise manner, without any unnecessary words.
"Sister-in-law, I heard that your brother and sister-in-law are also in the prefectural city. Are they far from here?"
Fang's wife was closer to Jiang Qi and they chatted about everyday things.
“My second brother and sister-in-law live in the west of the city, which is quite a distance from here.”
"The west side of the city is mostly inhabited by scholars, and the environment there is very nice."
"Jiang Qi's second brother teaches at Bailu Academy and is a legitimate Jinshi (successful candidate in the highest imperial examination)."
The teacher's wife introduced An Ruoyun to the young couple from the Jiang family, saying she quite liked them. Although she had only met them a few times, she had a very good impression of them.
"Seriously, that's amazing! Your kids must all be doing very well in school, they must have been influenced by what they were doing all along."
An Ruoyun thought of her two sons with envy.
"My two nephews, one loves reading and the other loves martial arts. They're still young, but for now they seem to be doing quite well."
Jiang Qi smiled when Shao Ming and Shao Yun were mentioned.
"Really? They practice martial arts? How old are your two children?"
An Ruoyun was quite curious; why would a child from a scholarly family practice martial arts?
"The older one is eight years old, and the younger one is six years old."
"If there's a chance in the future, sister-in-law, introduce your second sister-in-law to us. Let's go and learn from her experience in getting those two rascals to study properly."
An Ruoyun was also a little worried when she thought about her two sons at home.
She seemed to have no talent for studying. However, without studying, one's social status was low. She didn't aspire to pass the imperial examinations with flying colors; simply becoming a scholar (xiucai) would be enough.
“Okay, I’ll introduce my second sister-in-law to you two sisters-in-law then. However, it may be a while, as my second sister-in-law is pregnant and it’s not convenient for her to go out.”
Jiang Qi didn't want her second sister-in-law to be out socializing now; it was too tiring.
Listening to the women chatting and the children playing, Master Wan and the others felt that it was better to have more people around, and it was more lively.
