Chapter 244 Choice

After lunch break, Mu Yi'an invited Jiang Mian over.

"Boss, you wanted to see me?"

"Uncle Mian, please sit down."

Mu Yi'an invited Uncle Jiang Mian to sit down and talk, and then asked Sister Fang to serve tea.

"Thank you, Mr. Xie."

Jiang Mian thanked him, wondering what his employer wanted to see him about.

"Uncle Mian, I prefer to speak my mind directly and don't like beating around the bush."

There are two things, let me start with the first. I'm planning to open a shop selling food, and I'd like you to be in charge.

"Open a shop?"

Jiang Mian hadn't expected his employer to contact him for this kind of thing. Being in charge of a shop meant being essentially a manager.

"Yes, the shop has been acquired, and all the necessary plans have been made. Once everyone is in place, we can get started."

Jiang Mian fell into deep thought at his employer's words.

This is an excellent opportunity. Not only will the income be much higher, but in the long run, the shop will also develop better than the estate.

But he hesitated.

His wife can't speak. If she goes to the city and faces new people and things, will she be able to adapt?

She knew everyone on the estate well, and even though she couldn't speak, no one would bully her here. But if she went to the city, where she knew no one, wouldn't she be afraid?

"Boss, I am truly grateful that you have entrusted me with such an important task. However, I may not be able to handle this matter."

“I can’t handle it. I heard from Uncle Li that Uncle Mian is very capable. He has his own way of dealing with people, and the people in the village all respect him.”

Mu Yi'an didn't quite understand. It wasn't a spur-of-the-moment decision; it was a comprehensive consideration of various factors.

"Master, it's not that I'm afraid I can't handle the job. To brag a little, before I got married, I worked as a waiter in the county. If I hadn't gotten married and stopped working there, I would have been able to become the manager in less than two years."

I'm worried that my wife won't be able to adapt. My employer knows my wife can't speak, and I'm afraid she won't adapt to city life and will be mistreated.

Jiang Mian felt a little embarrassed; he was a grown man, yet he was being a bit sentimental.

"Ah, that's why. Auntie just can't speak, why treat her like a weakling?"

Mu Yi'an was a little confused. He could only not speak; everything else was normal. What was there to worry about?

"Huh? You can't speak, you can't express yourself when something happens, and you're afraid in unfamiliar environments."

Mu Yi'an didn't think it was a big deal, because in modern times, many people with disabilities live normal lives.

She forgot that this was ancient times, where people with disabilities would be discriminated against and looked down upon.

“Uncle Mian, think about this matter yourself. If possible, it would be best to discuss it with your aunt as well. Once you've made up your mind, whether you go or not, have Steward Wei give me a reply tomorrow.”

Mu Yi'an didn't say anything more. She thought Uncle Jiang Mian was quite capable, and also, her third grandfather had always been very kind and supportive to them, so she wanted to repay him in some way.

After seeing Uncle Jiang Mian off, Mu Yi'an summoned Steward Wei.

"Madam, you wanted to see me?"

"Manager Wei, things here are almost done, and the farm seems to be on track. In the time you've been here, who among the people from Jiangjia Village or the long-term workers hired from nearby villages do you think could be managers?"

Mu Yi'an didn't intend to keep Steward Wei on the estate indefinitely; things here were almost done. Fruit trees and medicinal herbs couldn't be planted yet; they would have to wait until next spring.

With Uncle Li and Xu Wu on the estate, we just need to select a few managers from the people of Jiangjia Village or the long-term laborers hired from the surrounding villages. Manager Wei can come and check on things a few times a month, and there won't be any problems.

From then on, in the household, Butler Li would be in charge of all social interactions and oversee the overall situation.

Manager Wei was in charge of external sales, so she didn't have to worry about it.

"Among those from Jiangjia Village, Master Jiang Mian is the most capable. Whether it's dealing with people or organizing farmhands, he does a very good job."

There are two others, which, while not as good as Master Jiang Mian's, are still quite good.

Manager Wei shared what he knew with his wife, and Mu Yi'an took note of it.

After leaving, Jiang Mian thought for a moment and then went to find his wife.

"Liu Ye, let's go home and talk about something."

Liu Ye was responsible for feeding the chickens on the estate and took care of the chicken coop with the others.

"Okay, wait for me a moment."

Liu Ye couldn't speak, but she could hear. She gestured with her hands, asking Jiang Mian to wait for her.

"Okay, no rush, take your time."

Jiang Mian knew that Liu Ye was capable, intelligent, quick to learn, and had a good memory.

Liu Ye quickly fed the chickens, checked the chicken coop, and cleaned up the droppings.

She then gestured to the other workers, asking them to keep an eye on things for her, promising to be back soon.

Another woman working at the chicken coop also came from Jiangjia Village. They were familiar with each other and could communicate with Liu Ye.

"Liu Ye, you should go back now. You've finished all the work. Don't rush back. I'm watching."

"Thank you, sister-in-law."

Liu Ye gestured, dusted herself off, and walked home with Jiang Mian.

In the village, the houses built for all the farmhands were of the same standard, and they were each given two rooms.

Once inside, Liu Ye poured two glasses of water; the house was spotless and tidy, thanks to her efforts.

"What's the matter?"

Liu Ye gestured, and she could tell that Brother Mian was preoccupied.

"My boss contacted me today and wants me to go to the city to manage a food stall. I don't want to go, but my boss told me to think about it some more."

Are you worried that I won't adapt?

Liu Ye gestured, knowing that her man was capable, but he had stayed in Jiangjia Village for her sake.
