Chapter 248 Jiang Lan Gives Birth to a Daughter

Jiang's parents stayed at the Zhou family's house for lunch, and Zhou's father and Zhou Zilin also rushed back to keep Jiang's father company.

After lunch, Jiang's father and mother said goodbye and left.

"Second daughter-in-law, you can rest assured now. Your parents are back. Just focus on your pregnancy."

"I know, Mom. I'm sorry to have troubled you."

Jiang Lan spoke softly to her mother-in-law, and Zhou Zilin looked at the delicate and frail Jiang Lan with great joy.

"Alright, Zilin, you should hurry back to school and study hard so you can pass the imperial examination next year and become a scholar."

"I understand, Mother. Father and Mother, Lanlan, I'm leaving now. Mother, when Lanlan is about to give birth, please send someone to call me."

Zhou Zilin gave a worried reminder. He had originally wanted to stay home with Lanlan, but his parents wouldn't allow it and told him not to neglect his studies.

Jiang Lan wanted to say something, but after glancing at her parents-in-law, she swallowed the words that were on the tip of her tongue.

Mr. Zhou had other matters to attend to, so he also left in a hurry.

Jiang Lan returned to her courtyard, looked at the blue sky above her, and felt a strange sadness in her heart.

Jiang's parents arrived at Jiang Shuwen's food stall by carriage, got off, and sent the Zhou family's carriage back.

"Welcome! What would you like to eat, sir?"

As soon as Jiang's father opened the door, he heard the waiter's enthusiastic greeting.

"Uncle Xin, Auntie, you're here. Brother Shuwen, Uncle Xin is here."

The waiter looked up and saw that it was Jiang's parents who had come in, so he quickly called out to Jiang Shuwen.

"Father, Mother, when did you come back? Why didn't you tell me? I could have picked you up at the dock."

Jiang Shuwen was taking inventory in the back when he heard the shouts from the front, so he quickly ran out.

"Go inside and talk, don't let it interfere with your business."

"Okay, let's go to the backyard. Qiu Niang and the child are there."

Jiang Shuwen led the way, with his father and mother following behind.

"Father, Mother, my second brother and sister-in-law are both doing well?"

“It’s all good. Shao Ming and Shao Yun went to school. Chu Yue is running and jumping all day long and is very strong. Every day, your second sister-in-law teaches Chu Yue to recognize characters. The little girl has already learned the Thousand Character Classic.”

Jiang's mother was overjoyed whenever she mentioned Chuyue.

When they were in the prefectural city, she spent the most time with Chuyue. Her two grandsons had to go to school, leaving early and returning late, but Chuyue was with her every day.

"Really? Shao Qiu can't speak fluently yet. Second sister-in-law is better at teaching children."

"Qiu Niang, come out quickly, your parents are here."

Hearing the shouts, Li Qiuniang hurriedly came out of the house, carrying Shao Qiu in her arms.

"Father, Mother, when did you get back? How is my second sister-in-law? Is she alright?"

Li Qiuniang was very worried after learning that Mu Yi'an was pregnant with twins. She wanted to go and see her, but she had never traveled far from home and couldn't leave her family, so she could only worry helplessly.

"Don't worry, everything is fine. Your second sister-in-law and the baby are both doing well."

Jiang's mother looked at her anxious third daughter-in-law. She had a good relationship with Yi'an, so it was normal for her to be worried.

Sigh, Jiang Lan doesn't know how to care about others. Even her eldest daughter-in-law knows to ask about Yi An's health.

Well, everyone has their own destiny, and we can't force it.

"Shuwen, how's Shao Kun's studying lately?"

Mr. Jiang was concerned about his grandsons' studies. In the two days since he returned, he had learned about his eldest son's two grandsons. Shao Qin was not particularly gifted in his studies and couldn't endure hardship, so his grades were average.

Shao Ning's advantage lies in his diligence; in the future, he will go further than Shao Qin.

The best student is Shao Ming; he has good talent and is also very patient.

Shao Yun was quick-witted, but his heart wasn't in studying. He preferred martial arts to reading.

This child has some talent in martial arts and is willing to endure hardship. Whether he can become a great general in the future is unknown, but he will definitely have the strongest physique.

“Dad, Shao Kun might be like me, not very talented at studying.”

He loves math and can do math faster than his mother. I thought, he's still young, so I'll let him study slowly for now. If he really can't keep up when he's older, we can switch to another path.”

Jiang Shuwen himself wasn't good at studying, so he had no intention of forcing his son to study. Some things can't be done well just by trying hard.

Instead of painfully persisting, it might be better to change your goal; you might do better that way.

"The child is still young, so don't keep saying things like 'the child has no talent.' No matter what the future holds, studying is the most basic thing."

“I know, but I haven’t said it to Shao Kun. He’s always been following Shao Yun around, and he’s finding it a little hard to adjust to being separated from him.”

I'm working hard to earn money now, so I can go to the prefectural city later. There are more opportunities there than in the county town.

Jiang's father looked at his youngest son. This child had always been adventurous.

Knowing he wasn't good at studying, he decisively went out to find work. He worked his way up from a shop assistant to a manager, and now, thanks to his sister-in-law's connections, he's opened his own shop.

Sure, people strive for higher positions, just as water flows downhill. As long as he has the ability, there's nothing wrong with going to a bigger place.

Shuyun and Qiqi are in the prefectural city. Shuwen has gone there, so the brothers and sisters can look after each other.

The main reason is that Shuwen and his wife are aware of the situation and don't want to rely on his second brother forever.

And so, Jiang's parents settled down at Jiang Shuwen's place.

During the day, Jiang's mother would visit the Zhou family every few days to accompany Jiang Lan on her strolls.

As the days went by, the day Jiang Lan was to give birth drew closer.

"Madam, your young mistress is in good health and will be here in the next few days. Please prepare the midwife, wet nurse, and everything else."

After taking Jiang Qi's pulse, the doctor explained his diagnosis.

"Thank you for your hard work, doctor."

The Zhou family's stewardess saw the doctor off, and Zhou's mother told Jiang Lan to go home and rest, and to be careful these next few days.

"Thank you, Mother-in-law. Could my mother come and stay with me for a few days? My husband is at school, and I'm a little scared being alone."
