Chapter 270 Public Opinion

Jiang Shuyun accompanied the headmaster and the others as they slowly strolled around the estate.

The chickens in the woods, the medicinal herbs in the mountains, and the transplanted melon seedlings all seemed novel to them.

"Zhonglin, did your family start growing these watermelons?"

The headmaster remembered that someone had previously delivered watermelons to the academy.

"Well, it was my brother-in-law who suggested it at first. My wife had read about some methods in an ancient book, and the siblings tried them out, and they actually worked."

Later, Magistrate Zhao of Xinyuan County organized farmers to start trial planting, and the results were good.

Now, the watermelons from Xinyuan County are quite famous, attracting many merchants from other places, and the local people's income has increased.

Thinking about how Yi'an used countless lies to cover up the story of that ancient book for the sake of one lie, Jiang Shuyun felt both amused and heartbroken. This era had buried Yi'an's abilities.

"The Zhao family's son is a man of action. Wasn't he transferred to Jiangnan at the beginning of the year?"

"Yes, he left a few days after the New Year. My second brother-in-law went with him, bringing his family. He won't be back for three to five years."

Jiang Shuyun thought her second brother-in-law was quite courageous; he didn't leave alone, but brought his wife and children with him.

Fortunately, judging from the letters they sent back, they were doing quite well.

"Not bad, not bad at all."

Through Jiang Shuyun's conversation with the headmaster, the others learned some information.

Jiang Jiangshu's relationship with the headmaster was unusual, and he himself was not without anything.

"Zhonglin, is it that pond?"

"Headmaster, that's it."

From a distance, the pond looks quite large, with a vast expanse of emerald green lotus leaves swaying in the wind, creating a rather picturesque scene.

"Headmaster, Headmaster, Headmaster!"

The other teachers saw their academy's headmaster and others and quickly greeted them, which they found strange, as the headmaster rarely participated in their private banquets.

"You guys do your thing, we're just here to share in the joy."

Several pavilions were built around the pond, each a long distance apart, so that they would not disturb each other.

Master Fang was already eager to try, seeing fish leaping out of the pond, and they were big fish.

Steward Li was very thoughtful; he not only built a pavilion and prepared fishing rods, but also bait.

Now, the entire village is teeming with people.

There were farmers working in the fields, people from Jiangjia Village visiting the farm's crops, women chasing butterflies and admiring flowers, and teenagers sweating it out on the martial arts training ground...

At noon, the banquet was ready.

Jiang Shuyun and Mu Yi'an led the male and female guests to their seats respectively, while Shao Ming and the others entertained the boys in the outer courtyard.

The two main characters, Jiang Shaorong and Jiang Shaoke, were carried around by their mother and aunt to the women's side.

She was then sent to the outer courtyard and shown to the male guests, especially the headmaster, who had given her her name.

"These two little ones are so strong. They're not shy at all; they'll grow up to be great!"

The headmaster looked at the two chubby boys; the children's eyes were very bright.

"Thank you for your kind words, Headmaster!"

Jiang Shuyun hadn't noticed anything unusual about the two children before; aren't babies who are only a hundred days old all pretty much the same?

The child was taken away, and the adults started drinking and eating.

Mu Yi'an learned from chatting with everyone that they would be going back in the afternoon and wouldn't stay until the evening.

She instructed Sister Li to have her people start grilling skewers and serve them to the guests later.

Sister Li and her family prepared a lot of meat skewers and various vegetable skewers, all ready-made. They lit the charcoal fire, and grilling them didn't take much time.

Although the banquet was hosted by the restaurant's head chef, the dishes were chosen by Mu Yi'an and Sister-in-law Li.

The dishes weren't too complicated; they were all made with ingredients available on the farm, fresh and crisp.

There are no delicacies, just everyday dishes, but they are prepared in a more refined way.

This even prompted the head chef from the restaurant to complain that he had no place to use his skills.

However, the guests thought the dishes tasted good, not greasy or bland.

Jiang's wife and the others couldn't describe it, they just thought it tasted delicious.

Fortunately, Yi'an didn't seat them at the same table as the other guests, otherwise, they would have been too embarrassed to even pick up their chopsticks.

"Third Grandmother, Aunt Wan, Third Aunt, sisters-in-law, brothers and sisters-in-law, I've had some meat skewers grilled, so save some room for yourselves."

"Once it's baked, please taste it carefully."

Seeing that everyone had almost finished eating, Mu Yi'an quickly said jokingly that there would be more barbecue later.

"Then I'll have to save some room. I ate at a barbecue stall last time, and I still remember the taste vividly."

Mrs. Wan likes to eat some barbecue and have some wine, especially boiled edamame, which is a really good snack to go with the drinks.

“Master’s wife, last time you went out to eat something delicious by yourself without inviting us sisters. Next time, you have to treat us.”

Jiang Qi's third sister-in-law had a good relationship with her and helped to ease the atmosphere.

"Okay, next time, I'll take the three of you, and not anyone else."

“Master’s wife keeps her word and cannot go back on her promise.”

Listening to their lively conversation, everyone became curious about the barbecue skewers.

As for the foreign language department, Jiang Shuyun had already made arrangements, saying there would be barbecue skewers later.

Many people here have eaten at the shop in the north of the city and quite liked it.

Upon hearing that there would be more kebabs coming soon, everyone stopped eating and waited to enjoy them.

“I’ll try it too. I’ve heard everyone talking about it at the academy, but I’ve never had a chance to try it. I’m so lucky today.”

The headmaster had never actually been there; he rarely left the academy.

"I'd like to try it too; I've never had it before."

Master Fang had a great time fishing today. Although he didn't catch many fish, he enjoyed himself immensely.
