Jiang Shuyun placed the things on the table, bowed, and went to the study to find the teacher.
"Come in."
In the study, Master Wei's voice was deep. Jiang Shuyun pushed open the door and bowed first.
"Come sit down, let me test you and see if you've made any progress lately."
Master Wei was tall and slender, in his forties, with a straight back and a somewhat serious demeanor, but he was also easygoing and unpretentious.
"Okay, thank you for your help, Master."
Jiang Shuyun did not formally become an apprentice, so she can only be addressed as Master.
Inside the study, the two were testing each other's knowledge.
In the courtyard, Madam Wei looked at the gifts Jiang Shuyun had brought, all homemade food. She thought to herself that this Jiang girl was quite a charming person; the gifts weren't expensive, but they were full of sincerity and showed a close, friendly nature.
“Wang Ma, go to the storeroom and get two bolts of cotton cloth, one suitable for a young woman and one suitable for a young scholar.”
"Yes, madam."
Mrs. Wei really liked this bag of wild chrysanthemums; they were dried very well. The chestnuts were also excellent, all plump and fresh, and the mushrooms were clean and neat—she had put a lot of care into it.
Inside the study, Master Wei had already finished his examination.
"Yes, you've made progress recently. You're seeing things more comprehensively and with greater depth. Keep it up, and try to travel more when you have the chance."
"I understand, Master. I will definitely go out for a walk when I have the chance."
Jiang Shuyun didn't say she would definitely go out to see the world; she didn't have the means to do so yet.
"Master, do you know about the watermelon I tasted at your place last time?"
After finishing their business, Jiang Shuyun asked about the watermelon. "The watermelon was a gift from someone. What are your thoughts on it?"
"My brother-in-law and wife want to grow it and want to learn more about it."
Jiang Shuyun told the truth that they were farmers, and farming was normal for them.
"I don't know much about it, I only know that it's grown in dry land, the yield is low, but the price is not low. If your brother-in-law can grow it, that would be good. The seeds are sold in the prefectural city, you can go and inquire."
Having asked the questions she wanted to know and having finished testing her knowledge, Jiang Shuyun got up to take her leave.
When she left, Madam Wei made it clear that the two bolts of cloth she prepared were for Jiang Niangzi.
Jiang Shuyun took the cloth to the bookstore, picked up the books she wanted to copy and the paper for copying, and then took a car home.
