Chapter 331 The Servant's Marriage

Mu Yi'an and his group returned to the prefectural city, disembarked from the boat, and felt a wonderful sense of groundedness.

A carriage from the family came to pick them up. Mu Yi'an led the children into one carriage, and the others also got into their respective carriages.

Old Man Wei saw several carriages approaching from afar and knew that his wife had returned, so he prepared to open the gate.

Butler Li got out of the car first, and Mu Yi'an took the child through the main gate. The rest were handled by others.

After being away for more than two months, Mu Yi'an felt that home was still the best place!

Sister-in-law Wei came over and took the two little ones to take a bath. Mu Yi'an also took Chuyue and Anran to wash up.

After dinner, Mu Yi'an sent someone to take An Ran home. She didn't rush to ask about things at home and went to bed to take a nap first.

The children were unaffected; they returned to their familiar surroundings and went about their business as usual.

After arranging things, Butler Li and the others went home first.

That evening, Jiang Shuyun and his two sons arrived home and were pleasantly surprised to see Mu Yi'an and the others in the yard.

"Mom, you're finally back! I missed you so much! Did you miss me? You said you'd be back in a month, why did it take so long?"

Nine-year-old Shao Yun is almost as tall as Mu Yi'an. I don't know if it's because she loves sports since she was little or because she drinks a lot of goat milk.

All five children in the family are taller than their peers, especially Shao Yun, who is almost taller than Shao Ming.

"Shao Rong, have you missed your second brother?"

Shao Yun acted coquettishly for a while, no longer bothered by why her mother had taken so long to return.

He picked up Shao Rong and swung her around several times, making Shao Rong laugh out loud.

He put Shao Rong down, then picked up Shao Ke and spun her around several times.

Unfortunately, Shao Ke remained calm, showing neither fear nor bursting into laughter.

This prompted Shao Yun to ruffle his hair several times before Shao Ming pulled him aside.

The five children went to the side to whisper, giving Jiang Shuyun a chance to talk to Yi'an.

Having many children is a real hassle.

"Yi'an, I miss you."

Jiang Shuyun really wasn't used to Yi'an being away from home; she felt empty.

There were many people in the courtyard, but I felt like something was missing, and I wasn't used to it.

Habits are a terrible thing.

He had lived a lonely life for over forty years, and after only a few years surrounded by his wife and children, he became addicted and couldn't quit.

"I miss you too, even though it's only late at night. I've been too busy during the day to think about it."

Mu Yi'an teased her husband, watching him go from happy to depressed, which was quite amusing.

"Shuyun, the school in the village of the county town is doing quite well, and my elder brother is managing it well."

I did the math, and our main expense is the tuition fees for a few teachers.

Secondly, regarding the embroidery thread and fabric, I told my older brother that we didn't need particularly high-quality thread or fabric. We're just providing an opportunity for the girls, not nurturing their ambitions.”

Through the events involving Jiangjia Village and the Jiang clan, Mu Yi'an and Jiang Shuyun gained a deeper understanding of some of the social interactions in ancient times.

This isn't modern times; everyone lives their own lives behind closed doors.

Even with close relatives, if you can't get along, you can simply stop interacting. You can choose to listen to your parents selectively; if you don't, they won't do anything to you.

However, that wouldn't have worked in ancient times.

Filial piety, ethics, social norms—too many rules and regulations constrain us.

"That's how it should be. When we have the ability, we should do some good deeds without expecting anything in return."

But we also don't want the story of the farmer and the snake to play out in our own lives; it's not worth getting upset over it.

Jiang Shuyun was used to being alone. Although he now had Yi'an and the children with him, deep down he was still rather cold, especially towards strangers.

"Understood. So, will the school on our estate in the prefectural city remain open?"

"Wait a little longer, no rush, let's see how it goes in the village of the county town."

Didn't you think that if suitable candidates came up, you could pick a few to keep for yourself?

Jiang Shuyun didn't want An Tai to worry about it. Besides, many things are better left unsaid. Take it slow. Life is long, why rush?

Mu Yi'an talked about his hometown, and Jiang Shuyun talked about her family. The two exchanged information.

That evening, Jiang Shuyun couldn't wait to pull Yi'an back to their room to rest.

For more than two months, he not only thought about his wife in his heart, but also in his body.

Absence makes the heart grow fonder, and the two of them made love passionately for half the night, so much so that Yi'an went to bed late on her first day back.

Jiang Shuyun got up feeling refreshed and did a set of boxing exercises in the courtyard.

Shao Yun supervised his older brother and younger sister as they practiced horse stance and boxing, thinking that starting next year, Shao Rong and Shao Ke would also start practicing.

Shao Ke, who was sleeping in bed, suddenly woke up, sneezed several times, rubbed her nose, and went back to sleep.

When Mu Yi'an got up, it was almost noon. She cursed Jiang Shuyun in her heart for not knowing how to control herself and not being afraid of kidney deficiency.

He got up grumbling and washed up, ate lunch, rested for a while, and then started dealing with household chores.

After more than two months, Accountant Song brought over the accounts for those two months for his wife to review.

Mu Yi'an looked through several accounts, including those from the estate, shops, and home. The accounts were quite clear and there were no problems.

"Did you give Wei Dong some travel expenses when he left?"

“They took it. They left with the servants from my aunt’s household. They weren’t allowed to travel alone; they went with a caravan heading to the Northwest.”

Mu Yi'an thought it was fine, and she didn't mind spending a little more money. In her heart, people were more important than money.

"Accountant Song, your son Song Shan is five or six years old now, isn't he?"

"Reporting to Madam, he is five years old."

"After a while, we sent all the boys and girls of the same age in the family to study there."
