Chapter 61 Filling in the Furniture

The courtyard that Jiang Shuyun and her family bought is neither too far nor too close to the Jiang family's home.

The Jiang family's house was located in the middle of the village, while the Wang family's courtyard was at the west end, bordering the road. Jiang Shuyun and the others worked all day to tidy up the courtyard.

"Let's go back and have Mom find someone to choose an auspicious day so we can move."

Jiang Shuyun put the buckets back. Shuwen had already reinforced the area around the well and built a high safety railing to prevent the children from falling in. Even the well in the backyard was protected, although a door had to be opened to access it.

"Yes, my cousin's family takes good care of this yard. We haven't done anything except sweep the dust."

Mu Yi'an was satisfied. She really didn't like living with a large family, always fussing over trivial matters. Her motto in life was to make the most of every minute and maximize its efficiency.

"Big sister, I'll go to town tomorrow to buy you a bed. What kind do you like?"

Jiang Shuwen looked around and saw that the rooms were almost empty, with no beds. His sister had returned from her divorce, bringing only a few slightly larger pieces of furniture and nothing else; she hadn't even had a bed when she got married.

The beds in Shao Ming's brother's room are both new and don't need to be replaced. His second brother got married, and his sister-in-law's family provided a whole set of furniture, so they didn't lack anything. He just planned to give his sister a bed.

"Shuwen, no need. I saw some old beds in the backyard storage room. They're not broken and can be used."

Jiang Qi quickly refused. The divorce and returning home had already brought a lot of trouble to her family and siblings; how could she let her younger brother spend money on her? Besides, she had some savings of her own and could buy it herself.

"Shuwen, you don't need to buy them. I've already made a list. We're still missing a dining table, a few chairs, and a bed. We'll buy them all together later. There's no time to make them now. If you know any good carpentry shops, please introduce them to me. I really don't know which ones sell the best."

Mu Yi'an has already compiled a list of all the furniture that needs to be purchased for the house.

"Second brother, I have money."

Jiang Shuwen genuinely wanted to give his sister a bed. He hadn't been able to help with anything during the family's division of assets, especially since he wasn't home when his sister got divorced, and he always felt guilty about it.

"Shuwen, we don't need a bed, you can buy a wardrobe instead."

Jiang Shuyun thought about it and didn't refuse Shuwen's offer. He knew that Jiang Qi wouldn't agree to Shuwen spending money on him and would feel embarrassed.

However, the give-and-take between siblings is a way to foster their relationship, even though he was once an only child. Isn't human interaction built on this give-and-take?

Seeing that her second brother had made the decision and that her third sister-in-law wasn't unhappy, Jiang Qi acquiesced. From now on, she would take better care of Shao Kun. She could tell that her third sister-in-law and second sister-in-law had a good relationship, and she would make sure they had plenty of opportunities to interact in the future.

As they talked, they returned to the Jiang family's courtyard. Today, Jiang's eldest sister-in-law was in charge of cooking, and from now on, she would be the main cook in the family's kitchen.

"Is everything packed? Is everything complete?"

"Mom, everything's packed. We don't need anything. We'll move our things over there. If we need anything, Shuwen will go with me to the county tomorrow to buy it. Mom, could you help me find someone to pick an auspicious day for us to move over?"

Jiang Shuyun told his mother his request, hoping it would be as soon as possible, as he hadn't really been studying much lately.

"Shuheng's mother, go find someone to choose the nearest auspicious day so we can finish moving as soon as possible, and Shuyun can settle down to study."

Upon hearing this, Jiang's mother abandoned her previous idea. She had intended to find an excuse to delay, as she truly didn't want the family to fall apart like this.

Once things are discussed openly, things become easier to handle.

The next day, Jiang Shuyun and Jiang Shuwen, together with Jiang Shuqi, hitched up their own mule cart and set off for the county town.

"Shuqi, let's go to my father-in-law's house first. The family has split up, and I need to go and tell them. Shuwen, when we get to the county town, you should also go and tell your sister-in-law's family."

"I understand, Second Brother. I originally planned to talk to him after I got back to work."

"It's better to do it sooner rather than later, so that people don't hear about this from outsiders."

Jiang Shuyun recalled the things Mu Yi'an had told him that morning; he still had a lot to learn about interpersonal relationships. Fortunately, his comrade-in-arms was Mu Yi'an, a woman who had grown up like a weed.

Upon arriving at the Mu family home, Jiang Shuyun told her parents-in-law about the family's division of assets and that they were now living with her divorced sister.

Mu's parents understood immediately; their daughter was using this opportunity to separate from the family and take charge of the household herself. That was good; they could help her out more in the future. As for Jiang Qi, they knew her somewhat; she had a good personality.

Jiang Shuyun said he would come over to let him know when the moving date was set, as he was going to the county town to buy some things. The Mu family knew they had important business to attend to, so they didn't keep them any longer and would visit when the move took place.

After saying goodbye to the bride's family, the group headed straight for the county town.

Jiang Shuwen took them to a carpenter's shop he knew, where they chose sturdy and affordable items. He left his second brother and Shuqi behind and went to his wife's house.

Jiang Shuyun and her group returned to Jiangjia Village before evening, and took their belongings directly to their new home, saving them the trouble of making another trip later.

The moving date has been chosen; it's in three days.

"Shuyun, here is the exact time for the move. Keep it safe."

Jiang's mother consulted a famous fortune teller in the area; she was very accurate in her calculations and could choose auspicious dates.

"Thank you for your hard work, Mother. I will keep it safe."

Jiang Shuyun returned the things to the study. Starting tomorrow, she will gradually pack her things and move them to the new house bit by bit.
