Chapter 74 The Younger Generation of the Mu Family

For lunch, Wang Ma prepared a sumptuous meal.

The Mu family of three, along with Jiang Shuyun's family of five, created a warm and cozy atmosphere.

"Yi'an, could you stay at my house for two nights?"

“Sure, we told Jiang Qi when we came that we would stay for two nights before going back. I need to wait for my older brother to come back so we can discuss the watermelon planting with him.”

Mu Yi'an knew that her older brother was also going to accompany her sister-in-law back to her parents' home, so she brought a change of clothes with her when she came.

Mother Mu was pleased to hear Yi'an's affirmative answer. Her daughter rarely had the opportunity to return to her parents' home throughout the year.

"Yi'an, you're going to grow watermelons with your older brother. How many are you planning to grow?"

“My family originally had 15 mu of dry land, and later we divided the land into 10 mu, which I plan to plant on all of it. If things go well this year, I plan to buy a small estate and grow watermelons there.”

Mu Yi'an already understood that the watermelons weren't growing very big and the yield was low at this time of year. She didn't know the specific reasons. Because those who could grow and sell watermelons weren't ordinary people; they couldn't bear to part with them.

"Okay, let's try planting it first. If it's successful, we can accumulate some wealth."

Mu's father himself was not good at farming. He used the money from the division of the family property to come here to buy land and build his business, which was also because he liked the location of this place.

"Yes, that's what I think too. My husband will continue with the imperial examinations, and the children are growing up, so the expenses will only increase."

Mu Yi'an only feels at ease when she has money in her hands. The impoverished life she experienced in her previous life instilled fear in her, and she never wanted to live that kind of life again.

"Okay, it's good that you have a plan. Life is about living it. As long as you have a plan in mind, you won't have to worry about not being able to make it."

“My father-in-law is right. We will plan our lives well. Now that we have separated the family, I will do my best to support Yi’an’s ideas.”

When husband and wife are of one mind, their strength can break even metal.

In front of his parents-in-law, Jiang Shuyun made a promise that he couldn't let his in-laws feel that he was letting Mu Yi'an make money but not giving her enough power, which would be a bit unethical.

Hearing their son-in-law's words, Mu's parents felt much more at ease. With their son-in-law's support, they would feel better regardless of whether Yi'an succeeded or failed in whatever she wanted to do.

Mu Yi'an didn't expect Jiang Shuyun to be so perceptive; this display of loyalty immediately boosted her favorability!

Jiang Shuyun said that because he felt Mu Yi'an was in charge of earning money, and there wasn't much he could do to help; all he could offer was his trust. However, seeing his father-in-law's loving eyes, he knew his answer had satisfied his in-laws, which was an unexpected delight.

The lunch was pleasant, and they chatted for a while afterward. Mu Yi'an took the child to take a nap, while Jiang Shuyun was pulled by her brother-in-law to the study to discuss academic matters.

The Mu family parents entered the room one after the other, which was quite unusual. In ancient times, men rarely entered their inner chambers except when they were sleeping.

"What's wrong? Do you need anything?"

"No, I just heard what my son-in-law said, and I was a little excited. I never expected him to suddenly become so bookish."

When Mu's father took a liking to Jiang Shuyun, he married his only daughter to him. Firstly, Jiang Shuyun had already passed the imperial examination and become a scholar. Secondly, he had inquired about Jiang Shuyun's background and found that although his family was of modest means, he was diligent and hardworking in his studies. Unlike those so-called scholars who frequented brothels and demanded money from their families indefinitely, Jiang Shuyun was able to earn money by copying books from bookstores.

However, Jiang Shuyun also had his shortcomings; he was too focused on his studies and didn't understand many social interactions or pay much attention to family matters. Unexpectedly, he's become much more insightful and responsible now.

"Yes, I didn't expect my son-in-law to change so much. I hope things will only get better for Yi'an in the future."

Mu's mother had four children: three sons and only one daughter, Yi'an. How could she not worry about her, fearing that Yi'an wouldn't be doing well? After a woman gets married, her life depends mainly on her husband's family, especially her husband.

Now, seeing how An and his wife get along, they feel much more at ease.

Everyone was in a good mood that day, including the three children, who ate a lot of delicious food.

The next morning after breakfast, the two daughters-in-law of the Mu family returned from their parents' home.

Brother Mu and his wife have three sons: Mu Xuan, eight years old; Mu Lin, five years old; and Mu Hui, two years old.

Sister-in-law Mu wanted a little girl, but she was also afraid of having another son, so she was a little scared.

The three children were very happy to see Mu Yi'an and the others.

Mu Xuan led the way in wishing his aunt and uncle a Happy New Year. Two-year-old Mu Hui, still quite young, stumbled along as she offered a few auspicious words. It must have been her older brother who taught her; after she finished speaking, she glanced at him, as if asking if she had said it correctly.

Mu Yi'an gave each of his three nephews a red envelope. The three little boys in Mu's family are quite adorable.

Sister-in-law Mu also prepared red envelopes for Shao Ming and his two brothers. Shao Ming and his younger brother paid New Year's greetings to their uncle and aunt, and then their older cousin took them out to play.

Brother Mu and Sister-in-law Mu will be back shortly, with their six-year-old son Mu Yang and three-year-old daughter Mu Jin.

"Second sister-in-law, why is your belly so big?"

Mu Ersao was more than five months pregnant, but her belly looked like it was seven or eight months bigger.

"Yi'an, your second sister-in-law is pregnant with twins. The doctor checked her pulse and confirmed our suspicions."

Mu Erge smiled broadly; he hadn't expected to have twins. After the smile faded, a hint of worry crept in, fearing danger during childbirth.

"Twins? Mother, has our Mu family ever had twins?"

Mu Yi'an was quite surprised. Twins usually have genetic reasons, unlike in her previous life, where many twins were conceived through artificial intervention.
