Chapter 79 Spring Farming Plan

After returning from Uncle Jiang's house, Mu Yi'an and Jiang Shuyun went into the study together.

"You should read your book quickly. I need to write a plan. There are many things to do before planting watermelons. The most important thing is fertilizer. Without enough fertilizer, the watermelons won't grow big or be very sweet."

"What are you going to do now that there's no fertilizer?"

"Without chemical fertilizers, there are still the most primitive methods of composting. I need to think about what I've learned before. What waste materials are used to ferment nitrogen fertilizer, phosphorus fertilizer, and potassium fertilizer?"

Mu Yi'an needed to calm her mind and think about the knowledge she had learned back then.

Seeing that Yi'an was thinking, Jiang Shuyun sat down to read as well; he also had many books to read.

Mu Yi'an wrote and drew for a while, and when she saw that it was almost time, she left the study to make lunch.

"Jiang Qi, what would you like to eat? I need to make lunch."

"Mom, let's eat dumplings."

Shao Yun rushed out to express his opinion.

"Want to eat dumplings? Sure, the chives in the garden are ready to eat, and we also have eggs and dried shrimp at home. Let's make chive, egg, and dried shrimp dumplings."

"tasty."

"eat."

Chuyue will be one year old soon, and she can say some simple words, mostly related to food.

"Second sister-in-law, let me help you. Let Shao Yun and Chu Yue play in the yard while I get the toy car out."

Mu Yi'an took Chu Yue from her. The little girl could already stand and take a few steps while holding onto things, but she was still too afraid to walk independently.

"My little Chuyue, do you miss your mother?"

She gave the little one a kiss; he was fair and tender, and smelled of milk.

"Mother, I miss you too."

Shao Yun looked up at Mu Yi'an with an eager expression.

Mu Yi'an instantly understood what the child was thinking. She put Chu Yue down and let her stand while hugging her legs, and also bent down to kiss Shao Yun.

"hehe……"

The little guy was happy, hugging Mu Yi'an's other leg and laughing.

Jiang Qi came out with the baby walker and saw the scene from earlier. She felt envious; she knew she would never have a child of her own. But it didn't matter. Her second brother's three children were all well-behaved, and she would take good care of them.

Mu Yi'an took the simplified version of the baby walker. It was something she and Jiang Shuyun had researched and made themselves, drawing a gourd shape based on their memory of it. It was very simple.

Four wooden wheels, a simple frame, and a child can push it around.

Although the structure is simple, it has been carefully polished and there is not a single splinter.

"Shao Yun, play with your sister in the yard. Your mother and aunt have gone to cook."

Shuyun, come out and rest for a while, and watch the kids for a bit.

Mu Yi'an was still worried and called out to Jiang Shuyun.

"Okay, I'll be right there."

Jiang Shuyun was also tired of writing, so she took out a book and could recite it while looking at her child.

"Jiang Qi, you go knead the dough, I'll go gather the chives. We bought our chicks at just the right time; they've already started laying eggs."

"More than ten chickens lay more eggs than we can eat, but we can sell some."

Jiang Qi was happy thinking about the dozen or so chickens; she and her second sister-in-law had been taking very good care of them.

"We won't sell them. Let's eat more of them ourselves; they're nutritious."

Mu Yi'an never thought of selling eggs. At that time, there weren't many nutritious foods in the countryside, and eggs were considered a very good thing, as well as a necessity for exchanging gifts among neighbors.

Jiang Qi smiled. That's true, her second sister-in-law is very generous when it comes to food and drink.

Mu Yi'an took a basket to cut chives. Looking at the empty space outside the wall, she realized it must have been cultivated before, but had been abandoned in recent years. She decided to ask if she could replant it when she had time.

Mu Yi'an kept this in mind, thinking that she should hurry up and ask about it, because spring plowing waits for no one.

The spring chives were very fresh and tender. Mu Yi'an cut a small basketful and went back to the yard.

"Mom, let me help you choose."

"Okay, you pick one for me."

Mu Yi'an did not interrupt the child's enthusiasm for doing the work, and patiently taught him how to do it.

Jiang Shuyun watched the mother and daughter picking chives, and then looked at her chubby daughter clinging to her leg. She thought that this kind of idyllic life wasn't bad at all.

"Shuyun, can we farm the wasteland outside our house?"

“Wasteland, ah, that piece of land? Okay, my uncle said that land was on the property deed, but I forgot about it.”

Jiang Shuyun slapped her forehead. She had never farmed or grown a garden before, so she didn't know how important land was to people who loved farming.

Thinking back to my past life, the corners and nooks of the neighborhood, the vegetable seedlings sprouting in the green belt, the wasteland outside my own wall—I was so wrong to have done that.

"Smack! Waaah..."

Jiang Shuyun was still sighing when her little daughter imitated her and slapped her own forehead. Her chubby little hand didn't control the force and hurt herself, so she started to cry.

"Girl, you're too hard on yourself. You've made your face all red."

Jiang Shuyun picked up her daughter and gently blew on her forehead. Mu Yi'an was amused and laughed heartily, which made little Jiang Chuyue so upset that she buried her face in her father's shoulder and burst into tears.

Jiang Qi, who had just finished making the dough, came out when she heard the crying, not knowing what had happened.

Jiang Shaoyun gestured and explained what had just happened. Jiang Qi wanted to laugh, but she held back when she saw her aggrieved niece.

Jiang Chuyue hugged her father's neck and cried for a while. She looked up at her mother, and when she saw that her mother had stopped laughing, she buried her head in her father's neck again and stopped sobbing.

Mu Yi'an thought this little girl was too clever and cunning.

After cleaning the chives, Mu Yi'an went to the kitchen to make the filling. She added eggs and dried shrimp. It was so delicious!

The two women, sister-in-law and aunt, worked together to make two whole trays of dumplings.
