As soon as Jiang's sister-in-law, the eldest daughter-in-law of the Lin family, saw Mu Yi'an come in, she began to speak cryptically about the full-month celebration gift.
"That might disappoint you, but I made a little outfit for the child."
Mu Yi'an didn't know Lin's eldest sister-in-law well; they hadn't met. However, based on just a few words, she could tell that this person wasn't very good.
"Clothes, you're being way too biased. You're only siding with your own family and don't care about your husband's family at all?"
"Who do you think you are, trying to sow discord here? Gift-giving is about reciprocity. I gave you clothes because my sister-in-law gave me something similar. Why are you the only one with a problem?"
Mu Yi'an has been extremely busy lately, working herself to the bone every day. She came over to deliver a gift, but was met with difficulties. She couldn't swallow this insult.
“I am your sister-in-law’s sister-in-law from her maternal family, so please be polite to me.”
"You said it yourself, you're my sister-in-law's sister-in-law, not mine. Why are you putting on airs like an elder to me? What business is it of yours how I interact with my sister-in-law?"
Looking at the furious Lin family daughter-in-law, her face red and swollen, and then at the displeased Jiang sister-in-law, Mu Yi'an felt a surge of satisfaction. Didn't she know what kind of gift she had given? Her gift was far superior to Jiang sister-in-law's; how could she expect her to give a longevity lock? What was she thinking? Her second sister-in-law's gifts for the baby's full-month celebration and first birthday celebration were of utmost importance, on a completely different level from Jiang sister-in-law's. What was there to compare?
After scolding the eldest daughter-in-law of the Lin family, Mu Yi'an didn't linger and left Jiang's sister-in-law's room; she had other things to do.
"Mom, I have something to do at the melon field, so I'll have to go now. My younger sister will be here to help on behalf of our family."
"Okay, your business is important, go and get busy, don't worry about this."
Jiang's mother, unaware of the argument that had just taken place in the room, assumed her second daughter-in-law was genuinely busy and quickly asked her to leave.
Mu Yi'an took the three children home and let them play at her uncle's house next door for a while. She was going to work in the field for a bit; some watermelons had blossomed and she needed to do artificial pollination.
