With the Gu family's guards protecting them, Jiang Shuyun and her companions did not encounter any danger along the way.
However, the further north you go, the lower the temperature gets.
Shao Ming and Shao Yun, who have always lived in warm places, are really not used to it.
Gu Zheng was already used to it. They were born in the capital and had been to the northwestern border towns, so this kind of temperature really didn't affect him.
Shao Ming was usually in good health and exercised regularly. However, after entering the capital city, it was already late October and snow was falling.
When she arrived, Mu Yi'an had already considered the climate change and prepared warm cotton clothes.
However, Shao Ming still fell ill.
Fever, runny nose, and persistent cough.
“Brother Gu Wen, how far is the nearest town? My young master needs to see a doctor and rest for a few days.”
Butler Li found Gu Wen, the leader of the Gu family. He had been frequently visiting the Jiang residence in recent years and they were quite familiar with each other.
"Steward Li, there's a town ten miles ahead. Let's stay there."
Not to mention that Gu Wen already knew his seventh young master's thoughts, in the past few years, as they followed the seventh young master in and out of the Jiang family, the Jiang family had taken very good care of them.
Now, the eldest son of the Jiang family is sick, and they need to take good care of him.
"Okay, thank you, Brother Gu Wen."
Butler Li went to see his master, and he was worried.
"Alright, Steward Li, once we reach the town ahead, let's find a clinic first, and then find a decent inn."
"Yes, sir."
The convoy sped up and entered a town near the capital before nightfall. The two large characters "Lai County" on the city gate were very imposing.
"Steward Li, let's go to the clinic first, then the inn. We're very familiar with Lai County, just follow us."
Gu Wen rode over and gave his suggestion outside the carriage where Steward Li was sitting.
"Okay, thank you for your trouble. We'll follow you."
Butler Li breathed a sigh of relief; he was afraid of getting sick in an unfamiliar place.
Gu Wen led the way, and soon they stopped in front of a clinic.
Jiang Shuyun and Shao Yun also got off the carriage, and Li Li and Jiang Mo helped Shao Ming down and into the clinic.
"Doctor, my child is unwell, with fever and cough."
Jiang Shuyun led Shao Ming to sit in front of the doctor who was seeing patients and briefly described Shao Ming's symptoms.
"Extend your hand, let me take your pulse."
The doctor gestured for Shao Ming to place his arm on the pulse diagnosis board and placed his fingers on Shao Ming's pulse.
"Switch to the other hand."
After taking Shao Ming's pulse, the doctor asked him to open his mouth and stick out his tongue.
"It's just a cold, not serious. Your body isn't used to the cold. Take some medicine and rest for a couple of days and you'll be fine."
Jiang Shuyun breathed a sigh of relief when the doctor said it wasn't serious.
"Uncle Jiang, let's rest here for two days and leave after Brother Shaoming has recovered."
We're not far from the capital now. We can let Steward Li and the others go into the city first and settle into their lodgings.
Gu Zheng knew that Uncle Jiang would not be staying at their house.
“That’s what I’m planning to do too. Butler Li accompanied me to the capital for the imperial examination before, so he knows what to do.”
Jiang Shuyun thought so too. They arrived early, and there should still be quite a few empty courtyards near the examination hall.
After leaving the clinic, they followed Gu Wen to an inn they knew well.
After completing the formalities, Jiang Shuyun and his two sons requested two superior rooms, Gu Zheng also requested one superior room, and the other guests were taken care of by Butler Li and Gu Wen.
Jiang Shuyun and Shao Yun shared a room, while Shao Ming was ill and was being cared for by Jiang Mo and Jiang Yan.
The doctor had just prescribed herbs for a bath, so Jiang Mo asked the waiter to bring him some hot water.
Jiang Yan went to the kitchen to brew medicine for the young master.
Shao Ming took a medicinal bath and broke out in a sweat.
Jiang Shuyun had the waiter bring the food to her room and didn't let Shao Ming go out.
"Dad, I'm much better now. You should go eat. Jiang Mo and Jiang Yan are here."
Shao Ming felt much better after taking a bath and told his father to leave quickly so as not to let the illness spread.
"Okay, I got it. You lie down now, and get up to eat when the food is served."
Seeing that Shao Ming was indeed much better, Jiang Shuyun went out to eat with peace of mind.
He took Gu Zheng and Shao Yun to eat in the lobby. The dishes were from the north and were a bit different from what they were at home, but they tasted pretty good.
They didn't rush along the way, only camping outside when they couldn't reach a town.
After dinner, everyone went back to their rooms to rest.
Before going to bed, Jiang Shuyun went to check on Shao Ming again; he was no longer hot.
"Dad, I've taken my medicine and I feel much better. Don't worry, go and rest. I'm going to sleep too."
"Alright, I'll go right away. Jiang Yan, Jiang Mo, keep an eye on the young master. If anything happens, come find me next door."
"Yes, sir."
After giving her instructions, Jiang Shuyun returned to her room.
"Dad, is my older brother feeling any better?"
"I feel much better now, it's not hot anymore, you should go to sleep too."
"I want to go to Gu Zheng's room, so we can sleep together."
Shao Yun and Gu Zheng made a promise to each other so they could keep each other company.
"Okay, do as you please, just don't stay up too late, go to sleep early."
"I know, Dad. You should get some rest too. You haven't been getting enough rest these past two days because my older brother has been sick."
"If you lose weight from all this, my mother will be heartbroken when you go back."
After teasing his father, Shao Yun quickly left.
"You brat, why are you spouting such obvious truths?"
Jiang Shuyun chuckled and scolded, but he really missed his wife.
Shao Ming is sick, and he is worried and busy taking care of him. He truly understands the hardships his parents have endured, especially his mother.
The inn was nice, and they slept well that night.
The next day, after breakfast, Steward Li, along with Li Li, a guard, and Gu Wen, went to the capital.
