Chapter 24 Real Money

"If you want to drink, tell your mother to buy a ewe too. Your second aunt's is for your younger brother."

"Mother, is it alright?"

Jiang Shaoqin turned to ask his mother, while Jiang Shaoning and Jiang Chutong also looked on with anticipation.

“Mother has no money; buying a ewe costs a lot of money. Your second aunt has a dowry, and your third uncle earns more; we can't compare. If you want to drink goat's milk, go ask your uncles and aunts if they can give you some.”

Jiang's words elicited various reactions from the people in the room; they had a tone that suggested "I'm poor, so I'm right."

"Sister-in-law, our money doesn't grow on trees; it's earned through hard work. Why do I feel uncomfortable hearing what you're saying?"

Li Qiuniang had long been fed up with Jiang Dasao. As the eldest sister-in-law, she always used the excuse of not having money to avoid things and valued money too much.

Sister-in-law Jiang has been in a bad mood these past few days, feeling that the two of them are ganging up on her and isolating her.

“It is true that I am the eldest sister-in-law, but the parents are still alive, and there is no such thing as the eldest sister-in-law being like a mother. Besides, my husband and third brother have an obligation to support our parents, but not to the eldest brother’s family.”

Mu Yi'an spoke slowly and deliberately, looking at Sister-in-law Jiang. She didn't want to spend any money or effort; what a pipe dream she was having.

“Eldest daughter-in-law, if you want your children to drink goat milk, go buy a goat yourself, cut grass for the goat, milk the goat, and cook it for the children.”

Jiang's mother didn't want them to continue talking, as it could easily hurt their feelings. When she was looking for a wife for her eldest son, she had considered many factors. The eldest daughter-in-law was good in every way, except that she valued money too much.

Once Jiang's mother spoke, the others stopped talking and breakfast continued.
