Melon Snowman
Bai Yixia kept her word and didn't oversleep the next day, but her chopsticks stuck into the table several times while she was eating lunch.
Zhou Qingyan, who gets up at six o'clock every day, couldn't bear to watch any longer. He put down his chopsticks, grabbed Bai Yixia's shoulders, and started shaking her, "Wake up, Sister Xiaxia! The team battle is about to start! You're down to your last sliver of health!"
However, Bai Yixia was so sleepy that she was no longer able to think about what he was saying. She hummed listlessly for a couple of minutes, then leaned back in her chair and let her mind go blank.
Zhou Qingchi sat opposite the two of them, looking at her tired appearance, and couldn't help but ask, "Xia, did you go to bed very late last night?"
Bai Yixia glanced at him reluctantly, then nodded, her voice sounding like it was being squeezed out of her throat, "I only remembered yesterday when I was about to go to sleep that I forgot to send the pictures back to those two customer girls from Friday."
God knows that when she opened her social media app and received those two messages with pitiful emojis, several alarm clocks went off in her head at the same time.
The devil whispered in her ear: Bai Yixia~ you didn't post any pictures.
It startled Bai Yixia awake, and she sat in front of the computer for three hours straight before finally finishing. But Bai Yixia usually went to bed around 11:30, so this night she really stayed up late. When the clock struck 3:00, she was wide awake. After struggling with her eyes closed for half an hour, Bai Yixia gave up on falling asleep and simply stayed up all night.
I finally drifted off to sleep around 6 a.m.
Zhou Qingyan, who falls asleep the moment his head hits the pillow, couldn't understand. After quickly finishing his meal, he went back to his room to do his homework.
Zhou Qingchi looked at Bai Yixia with some helplessness for a few moments. Seeing that she really couldn't muster any energy, he said, "Eat a little more, then go to sleep later."
Upon hearing this, Bai Yixia sat up straight, her eyes widening slightly. "Trust me, I'll be alert in a bit and I'll definitely be able to get you to the high-speed rail station safely." She picked up a few bites of food and put them in her mouth, mumbling, "By the way, what time is Brother Zhou's train?"
"Four o'clock." Zhou Qingchi had never won an argument with Bai Yixia, so he simply stopped arguing with her.
"Oh, there's still time," Bai Yixia said with a smile, her eyes narrowed.
Lunch was prepared by Zhou Qingchi, and the table was full of dishes that Bai Yixia loved. Gradually, she was tempted by the delicious food and her sleepiness was dispelled. She chatted with Zhou Qingchi in a casual manner.
After dinner, Bai Yixia was too lazy to go back to her own home. She followed Zhou Qingchi around like a shadow, sometimes washing his dishes, sometimes opening the refrigerator and chewing on a few green grapes.
After Zhou Qingchi finished washing the dishes, she grinned and moved closer to him, "When are you coming back next time, Brother Zhou?"
Zhou Qingchi lowered his eyes and thought for a moment, "The next one will probably be the National Day holiday."
Bai Yixia had expected this, but she couldn't help feeling a little disappointed. However, she thought that it was already mid-September, and she could spend another seven or eight days with Zhou Qingchi in another ten days or so.
She was secretly delighted, but too shy to show it too obviously, so she asked indirectly, "So, what are your plans for the National Day holiday?"
Zhou Qingchi could easily tell she was happy. He tossed the washed fruit to her and frowned, pretending to think. "Let me think... I think I do have some plans."
Bai Yixia: "!!"
She swallowed hard without making a sound, and calmly asked, "What are you doing?"
"Yes, what are you doing, Teacher Xia?" Zhou Qingchi stopped teasing her and, seeing her surprised expression, said, "Didn't you ask me to clear my National Day holiday before school started, saying you'd take me out to play?"
At that time, it was just a casual remark. Bai Yixia didn't expect Zhou Qingchi to actually take it to heart. Her thoughts couldn't help but drift away again, and she felt that the words "I like you" were about to slip out of her mouth on their own.
Her eyes lit up immediately. "Then it's settled. I'll pick you and Jiajia up, and we'll go play together!"
Zhou Qingchi's expression faltered for a moment. "Nie Jiayuan is going too?"
Bai Yixia nodded, "Yes, Jiajia takes beautiful photos. I'm going to collect photos with a lot of teachers."
"Going to a comic convention?" Zhou Qingchi asked.
"Yes, it's been so long since we went out together." Bai Yixia tugged at Zhou Qingchi's sleeve and winked. "Don't worry, there's a special holiday plan for Qingchi-ge too, I guarantee you'll be satisfied!"
Zhou Qingchi thought of the tiramisu from last night again, "Another special edition? How much money will I have to spend on so many special editions?"
Bai Yixia shook her head, "You don't need to spend money, just come with me to the comic convention."
Zhou Qingchi pressed one hand to his chest, looking coerced. "Wow, Teacher Xia is so domineering."
Bai Yixia raised her head. "There's nothing I can do, that's just how Bai Yixia is."
After saying that, the two looked at each other and smiled.
Zhou Qingyan, who had intended to join his older siblings' chat with the door open, had a blank expression on his face. He shook his head in disgust and closed the door.
-
Neither Bai Yixia nor Zhou Qingchi were the type to dawdle. The high-speed rail station was a two-hour walk from their apartment complex, and they decided to set off just after 1 p.m. Zhou Qingchi strolled into his younger brother's room to talk to him, while Bai Yixia twirled her car keys and wandered into the kitchen, intending to ask for some more fruit, but she froze as soon as she entered.
On the counter was the small plate she had given Zhou Qingchi yesterday, which had been washed clean long ago. It was made with cantaloupe as a base, cut into triangular shapes and stacked layer by layer, topped with green grapes cut in half. It was clear that Zhou Qingchi had tried to make it look nice, but failed. She could only use toothpicks to skewer it and pile it up to make a round little green grape snowman.
Bai Yixia hesitated for a moment before reaching for the plate. A soft cough came from behind her. She turned around and saw Zhou Qingchi leaning against the door, his expression somewhat unnatural. "We only have enough materials, so this is the best we can do for a return gift."
But last night's gift was originally meant as a thank you gift. Bai Yixia pursed her lips, still not saying those words aloud. She simply carried the plate home, saying as she walked, "Xiao Zhou's work is simply a work of art. I'm going to take it home, frame it, and keep it as a souvenir."
Zhou Qingchi chuckled and tugged at the ribbon on her dress. "Are you leaving it at home to become fertilizer for Aunt Lin's pile of flowers and plants?"
He pulled the person in front of him, pointed to the plate, and said, "Eat now, and then we'll leave."
Bai Yixia thought about it and felt that it was indeed unlikely, so she slowly picked up a green grape with a small fork and put it to Zhou Qingchi's mouth, saying generously, "Chef, you eat first."
Zhou Qingchi paused for a moment, seemingly wanting to refuse, but seeing Bai Yixia's expectant eyes, he still bent down, put the green grape in his mouth, twirled his tongue to his cheek, and mumbled, "Eat quickly."
He looked rather cute, and Bai Yixia felt an urge to take out her phone to take a picture, but since her hands were full, she had to give up.
She crunched on slices of cantaloupe, suddenly wondering where the fruit scraps had gone. Before she could ask, Zhou Qingyan pushed open the door and came out, carrying a white porcelain plate with oddly shaped cantaloupes scattered on it.
Oh, the case is solved.
Zhou Qingyan looked at the two of them, picked up a piece of cantaloupe, and took a vicious bite into it.
Bai Yixia and Zhou Qingchi exchanged a glance. She quickly stuffed the last piece of melon into Zhou Qingchi's bowl, put the plate on the coffee table, grabbed Zhou Qingchi's collar, and scurried out the door.
A few seconds later, she leaned in again, grinning at Zhou Qingyan, and said, "Little Yan, help your sister wash the dishes. I'll give you some small cakes when I get back tonight!"
Zhou Qingchi called out from outside the door, "Xia, the elevator is here."
Bai Yixia ignored Zhou Qingyan's reply and hurriedly closed the door.
Since Bai Yixia was a novice driver, Zhou Qingchi didn't allow her to chat with him while driving. The two sat quietly in the car, with only the stereo playing softly.
When has Bai Yixia ever been so obedient and shut up? She wanted to chatter on and on the way, but she dared not take her eyes off the road. She could only drive steadily while feeling restless and anxious.
When they arrived at the high-speed rail station, they could only drop her off at the entrance. She watched Zhou Qingchi get off the car with longing eyes, then glanced at the rearview mirror to observe the movement of the car behind. Seeing that someone was also getting off that car, she lowered the passenger window, leaned over, and said aggrievedly, "That's all I can take you this far."
Zhou Qingchi returned empty-handed, standing lightly outside the car. Upon hearing this, he actually laughed, "We'll see each other again soon."
Bai Yixia, looking dejected, shouted loudly, "I should have applied to the same school as you!"
Zhou Qingchi was taken aback, and a hint of regret appeared in his eyes.
Bai Yixia wanted to say something more, but the car behind had already started and honked its horn a few times in a hurry. She had no choice but to swallow her words and simply said, "Little Zhou, remember to text me when you get to school!"
"good."
If she stayed any longer, she would probably get scolded. Bai Yixia started the car and drove forward. The last thing she saw when she looked back was Zhou Qingchi's neatly turned and left.
She suddenly felt a little wronged, as if she was the only one who was reluctant to part with it.
Thinking about this, she was listless the whole way, but she drove the car into the garage with great care. It wasn't until she got into the elevator that she opened her phone and saw the message that Zhou Qingchi had sent her.
Two hours ago, I told her to drive safely, saying that I only had classes until the morning before National Day, and that I could "pick up" Nie Jiayuan with her in the afternoon.
Bai Yixia cheered up again and stood in the elevator reading the sentence over and over again.
She didn't realize she hadn't pressed a floor button until another person entered the elevator.
But Bai Yixia was in a great mood, and she didn't care that the person gave her a strange look. Instead, she returned the look with a bright smile.
The boy, who was about seventeen or eighteen years old, was taken aback by her laughter. A blush rose to his face, and he immediately became shy and tried to strike up a conversation.
But Bai Yixia didn't notice him at all. She was pressing the buttons on her phone, deleting the sentence "I feel like he doesn't like me at all" that was in her chat with Nie Jiayuan, and solemnly typing "He will definitely like me".
After sending the message, Bai Yixia quickly received six points in return from Nie Jiayuan, but she didn't care and sent three more messages, receiving another twelve points and a sentence from Nie Jiayuan:
-Add one more Yuan: Yes, yes, yes, he really likes you!!! [heart][heart][heart]
