The brave will prevail.
From what this person said to Zhou Qingchi, Bai Yixia had a pretty good idea of who he was.
However, she was not familiar with Zhou Yaohua and only thought that he was foul-mouthed and rude.
Zhou Qingyan had also learned a little Taekwondo, so he didn't hold back and kicked the person to the ground, where he lay on his back.
Seeing the boy's displeased expression, Bai Yixia grabbed his wrist and started to leave, saying, "Xiao Yan, let's go. Let's not get entangled with this kind of person."
It wasn't that she was afraid of clashing with Zhou Yaohua, but this was, after all, a school, and if she really argued or fought with him, it wouldn't be good for Zhou Qingyan.
Bai Yixia didn't want Zhou Qingyan to experience the same feeling of being talked about behind his back.
Zhou Qingyan glared at Zhou Yaohua resentfully a few times, but although somewhat unwilling, he still obediently followed Bai Yixia.
As they walked, she asked, "Sister Xiaxia, are you alright? I just saw him harassing you."
Bai Yixia comforted her, "I'm fine. Your sister is so capable. If he really wants to do something, I won't hold back."
Although she said that, Zhou Qingyan still looked unhappy, with his eyebrows drooping and his lips tightly pressed together.
Bai Yixia knew he felt guilty and was about to say something to him again when, with a thud, a book hit Zhou Qingyan on the back.
The two stopped and turned to look. Zhou Yaohua looked furious, and threw another book at Zhou Qingyan's face.
"Fuck your mother Zhou Qingyan, just like your bitch mother and idiot brother, you're a purebred freak!" He was about the same age as Zhou Qingyan, but he was not as mature and steady as him. His mouth was full of swear words and his face was ferocious.
Bai Yixia's heart skipped a beat; she knew she was in trouble.
Sure enough, Zhou Qingyan couldn't stand people talking about his brother and mother, and he completely crushed those bastards.
In the blink of an eye, Zhou Qingyan had already darted away from her and was wrestling with Zhou Yaohua.
High school boys usually fight silently, aiming for the face and stomach. Zhou Qingyan had learned this skill and was much better than Zhou Yaohua; what was called a mutual fight was actually more like him dominating the fight.
Bai Yixia was afraid that he might act irrationally and cause serious injury, so she dropped her bag and went to break up the fight.
"Xiao Yan! Xiao Yan! Calm down, stop hitting!" She rarely spoke so sternly and solemnly; her tone was completely devoid of her usual gentleness.
Zhou Qingyan was indeed angry, but not to the point of not being able to hear her. In the end, he kicked Zhou Yaohua in the shin and turned to walk away.
He warned sternly, "I don't care why you're here today. If I hear you swearing at my mom and brother again, I'll tear your mouth apart!"
He turned around, panting heavily.
Bai Yixia breathed a sigh of relief and was about to help him up when she saw the brat behind him with red eyes, staggering towards Zhou Qingyan with something in his hand, which he then swung down at Zhou Qingyan's head.
Bai Yixia's face paled, and she pressed down on Zhou Qingyan's head to protect him, her forearm being struck hard. She was too angry to feel the pain for a moment, and retaliated by slapping Zhou Yaohua across the face.
"Slap."
It gets dark early in late November. Parent-teacher meetings usually end at 5:30, and Bai Yixia was delayed a bit with the teachers. It's already past 6:00 now, and the school playground doesn't have many lights, only the lights from the senior high school classrooms are shining down.
Most of the parents and students who were supposed to leave had already left; only a few were still walking along the road, unaware of what was happening here.
Bai Yixia was so angry that her hands were trembling. Only after the anger subsided did she feel a throbbing pain in her forearm.
She didn't notice what exactly Zhou Yaohua was holding up when he swung it at her, but if it really hit her on the head, it wouldn't be a joke.
"Are you crazy?" Bai Yixia said coldly.
The two boys present were stunned; one was too shocked to react after being hit, and the other was incredulous.
Bai Yixia took a couple of breaths and was about to speak when Zhou Qingyan walked up to her without a word, grabbed Zhou Yaohua by the collar, pulled him up, and slapped the spot where Bai Yixia had just hit.
Zhou Yaohua was stunned by the two slaps in succession, and he covered his face, unable to speak for a long time.
The three of them remained in a standoff.
"Xiao Yao!" A tall, thin man wearing glasses rushed over in a hurry.
He frowned, seemingly wanting to reprimand Zhou Yaohua, "I was only saying one sentence, what are you doing running around—what happened to your face!?"
With someone backing him up, Zhou Yaohua immediately perked up, taking a step behind the man and pointing at Bai Yixia and Zhou Qingyan, complaining, "Dad! These two bitches! They hit me!"
The man's face was contorted with rage, and he was about to unleash his fury on the two men, but he froze when he recognized them.
"This, Xiaxia? Xiaoyan?"
Bai Yixia pursed her lips. She recognized the man as soon as he ran over; he was Zhou Qingchi's father, Zhou Sheng. Even though they hadn't seen each other for over a decade, she could still tell the difference.
Bai Yixia stared straight into Zhou Sheng's eyes and said stiffly, "Uncle Zhou, it's been a long time."
In contrast, Zhou Qingyan was not so good-tempered, and replied coldly, "Who are you calling Xiaoyan? We're not that close."
Upon hearing this, Zhou Sheng raised his eyebrows, about to question him, but Zhou Qingyan interrupted him, scoffing, "I'm telling you, you should really discipline your son. He's like a little hoodlum. He'll be a disgrace to society sooner or later."
Zhou Yaohua, who was hiding behind Zhou Sheng, exploded upon hearing this, covering his face and mumbling, "Who the hell are you calling a scumbag!"
Zhou Qingyan ignored him and Zhou Sheng's expression, "Sister Xiaxia, let's go."
"Stop!" Zhou Sheng shouted.
His expression shifted between light and dark as he stared at Zhou Qingyan with a gloomy gaze. "How dare you speak to your father like that?"
Before Zhou Qingyan could speak, another person chimed in.
"Who are you to him as his father?"
Bai Yixia suddenly turned her head to look in the direction of the sound. Zhou Qingchi, looking travel-worn, strode towards them.
Zhou Sheng's face darkened again. "Zhou Qingchi."
Zhou Qingchi stood in front of the two men, already much taller than Zhou Sheng. His cold gaze swept over the father and son. "How dare you show your face in front of me and Zhou Qingyan?"
"With the child you had through your affair."
Upon hearing this, not only Zhou Sheng, but also Zhou Yaohua behind him, froze.
Zhou Sheng tried to use his status as a father to pressure him, but Zhou Qingchi didn't listen to him at all and turned to look at Bai Yixia and Zhou Qingyan.
His expression softened considerably when he faced the two of them. "Are you alright?"
Just as Bai Yixia was about to say it was nothing, Zhou Qingyan interrupted, "Something's wrong, bro! That idiot just hit Xiaxia's hand, and I don't think she can lift it up now!"
Bai Yixia smiled awkwardly, thinking it wasn't that serious, but when she raised her hand, she felt that the spot where she had been hit was swollen and painful, and her movements were indeed a bit sluggish.
She touched her injured hand with her unaffected hand. "It shouldn't be too serious. It looks like it was hit by a water bottle. It just hurts a bit, and it's probably swollen."
Bai Yixia meant to reassure Zhou Qingchi, but to her surprise, Zhou Qingchi's expression became increasingly agitated.
He frowned, raised his hand and lightly placed it under her arm, as if afraid of hurting her and not daring to touch her.
Bai Yixia wanted to comfort him, but just then the security guards arrived with several teachers.
You Baiyixia met Teacher Yuan in the afternoon, and the teachers from the Academic Affairs Office.
The security guard pointed in their direction and said, "It's them. A student just came over and told me there was a fight."
Zhou Shengcai, realizing what was happening, glared coldly at Zhou Qingchi and pointed at Zhou Yaohua's swollen face. "Explain yourself! Is this the good son your mother raised? To hit someone?"
The implication was that Jiang Yinghua was bad at raising children.
Seeing the situation, Zhou Yaohua also twisted the truth, shouting, "That's right, I just came to ask that lady for directions, and if she didn't want to, that was fine. Zhou Qingyan suddenly came over and kicked me, and then hit me."
Bai Yixia saw his gaze sweep over her and Zhou Qingyan several times before he blurted out, "The girl next door? I bet they're having an affair! Bringing your girlfriend to the parent-teacher conference."
His smile was disgusting, and Bai Yixia couldn't help but frown.
Zhou Sheng also turned his gaze to Bai Yixia and confronted her, "Xiaxia, your uncle has held you and taken care of you before, how can you treat your younger brother like this?"
Bai Yixia rarely showed such anger and helplessness. She took a step forward and looked at Zhou Yaohua with amusement, "Whether you were asking for directions or getting angry because you couldn't strike up a conversation, you know the answer yourself."
She then looked at Zhou Sheng, "Uncle, you said it yourself, it was when I was little. My memory isn't good, I don't remember much. As for my younger brother, I only know Xiao Yan. What kind of younger brother is he?"
After she finished speaking, Zhou Yaohua on the other side seemed particularly unconvinced and muttered "bitch" under his breath.
Zhou Qingchi's face immediately darkened, and he turned to face Zhou Yaohua, clenching his fists.
The teachers present naturally heard his words, and their expressions were not good. But Zhou Sheng was here today to try and find a way to get his son a job, perhaps with some favors.
Director Wang from the Academic Affairs Office stopped Zhou Qingchi, saying, "Don't be impulsive, don't be impulsive. This is still a school, and in public."
He patted Zhou Sheng on the shoulder, then looked at Zhou Qingchi, "Let's resolve this matter as well. Come on, let's go to my office."
Zhou Sheng nodded, glancing contemptuously at Zhou Qingchi and the others. Zhou Yaohua, on the other hand, followed behind his father with his neck held high, looking like a victorious attacker, though his swollen face was particularly comical.
Bai Yixia was initially a little angry, but seeing his amusing expression, she couldn't help but chuckle softly.
Zhou Qingchi walked beside her, still frowning, looking particularly upset, but spoke to Bai Yixia gently, "What are you laughing at? Does your hand hurt a lot?"
Seeing him like this, Bai Yixia knew it must be because of Zhou Sheng. She found Zhou Yaohua amusing, but also felt very sorry for Zhou Qingchi.
It had been almost two months since she last saw Zhou Qingchi, and she felt that Zhou Qingchi had lost some weight. She reached out and tugged at Zhou Qingchi's sleeve, "It's okay, it doesn't hurt that much, it's just a plastic bottle."
Looking at the proud and imposing Zhou Yaohua, and then at Zhou Qingchi beside her, she felt particularly at ease.
She tugged at his sleeve and whispered, "That stupid brat is nothing like you and Xiao Yan. His parents must have failed to raise him properly."
Bai Yixia tilted her head and smiled at Zhou Qingchi, "Xiao Yan and I were bullied terribly by him, Brother Qingchi, we're going to get revenge for you."
After saying that, she winked playfully, "If you come, you'll definitely be able to beat them."
