The moon is shining tonight
The elevator was silent. Bai Yixia was still holding Zhou Qingchi's hand tightly, her brows furrowed.
Zhou Qingchi broke the silence and asked softly, "Is this what you told me not to listen to?"
Bai Yixia slumped her shoulders, nodded, and said with deep regret, "He said before that even in front of his own family, he was scolded by his grandfather. I thought..."
I thought at least my uncle had some self-respect and wouldn't say anything more. Who knew that this kind of person's shamelessness far exceeded my expectations? Plus, with a bit of alcohol on his plate, I really thought that anything could be forgiven.
"I'm sorry..." Bai Yixia shook his hand.
Zhou Qingchi was taken aback. "Why are you the one apologizing to me?"
Bai Yixia pouted: "Although I don't really want to admit it, they are indeed my relatives."
"It's okay, it's okay, Xiaxia."
Zhou Qingchi's voice was very soft, like snow falling silently, but when Bai Yixia looked at him, his expression was very serious, as if he was certain that this would happen.
So much so that Bai Yixia didn't even notice the unusual way she was addressed.
He said, "I know, I know you are all behind us, I know Auntie will definitely get justice for me, and I know Grandpa, Grandma, and Grandpa and Grandma will definitely teach him a lesson."
Zhou Qingchi raised his hand and gently stroked her face, his fingertips tracing under her eyes, taking away a cool, damp feeling.
He finally laughed heartily again, "It would be a lie to say I don't care. But since I met you, life has stopped being so difficult."
Lanterns of all sizes have long been hung up in the neighborhood; some are lit, and some are not.
One of the large, lit lanterns hung at the entrance of the building, its reddish light shining on Bai Yixia's face, making Zhou Qingchi unable to tell whether it was a trace of sadness or something else.
But whatever it was, it stirred a strange sense of satisfaction within him. He embraced Bai Yixia, burying his face in her neck, "Thank you, Xiaxia, I'm so happy."
Bai Yixia could sense his happiness, but she also felt wet tears on her neck. It was as if something she couldn't say was stuck in her throat, and she managed to hum in response, slowly tightening her grip on Zhou Qingchi's arm.
It's hard to say whether the heavens were on their side or not, but the first snow actually fell on the night of the reunion. It wasn't heavy; tiny white dots drifted down. Bai Yixia's eyes were still warm with tears when she suddenly felt a chill on her nose. She looked up and saw fireworks still going off somewhere, reflecting the snowflakes, making them especially beautiful.
The person in her arms seemed to have recovered and stopped crying, but Bai Yixia still felt her head and her whole body shaking.
She pushed the person aside in confusion and took a look.
Oh, he was actually laughing so hard he was shaking.
Bai Yixia was utterly baffled, but Zhou Qingchi's smile was so rare. Even though he always wore a gentle smile, it had never been as cheerful as it was now.
It's like letting go of many things, picking up happiness and joy from the bottom of my heart.
Bai Yixia was confused but was infected by his laughter and laughed along with him.
On a snowy night, the two of them stood like idiots at the entrance of the building, their hands still clasped together, laughing like that for a few minutes.
Just as the two were about to speak, a meaningful cough came from behind them.
Bai Yixia was caught off guard and shuddered, then suddenly turned her head to look.
Bai Xixi was holding her little niece's hand. The little niece was holding an unlit sparkler and was looking at them curiously with her big eyes.
My cousin's smile was sly. "Oh dear, Auntie kicked you all out too?" She seemed unable to hold back, turning her head to give a short laugh, then asked, "What were you laughing about just now? Why were you so happy?"
She clearly saw through everything, but she still had to tease others.
Bai Yixia pouted and sighed inwardly. It was a good opportunity just now, why did she always get interrupted?
"It's nothing." Bai Yixia bent down and patted her little niece's head. "It's snowing, does Xiaobao still want to play with sparklers?"
The little girl's face was flushed from running around. She nodded obediently and said in her childish voice, "Yes, Mommy said that taking pictures after snow is really pretty!"
"Okay~ You and Mommy play here, Auntie will go buy Xiaobao a delicious drink. What would you like to drink, Xiaobao?"
"Hmm..." The little girl thought for a moment, then tilted her head and looked at Bai Xixi.
My cousin generously replied, "You can have a little today."
"Okay! Then Xiaobao wants to drink sweet juice!"
Zhou Qingchi stood behind Bai Yixia, watching her play with the children, his eyes softening even more.
"Don't listen to that crazy old man." While Bai Yixia was talking to her daughter, Bai Xixi stood next to Zhou Qingchi. "I've never heard him say anything nice since we were little. It's like his emotional intelligence has been struck by lightning."
Zhou Qingchi glanced at her sideways, then turned his gaze back to Bai Yixia, "Hmm."
Bai Xixi thought that although she wasn't much older than her two younger siblings, she had at least watched them grow up. So she patted Zhou Qingchi's shoulder with a sigh, "We know what kind of person you are, and we only believe what we see. Xiaxia won't believe the nonsense Bai Siyang talks about; she believes in you."
Mentioning Bai Yixia, Zhou Qingchi's reaction finally became more lively. He turned to look at Bai Xixi, his eyes crinkling as he said, "I know."
Bai Xixi was curious about how they, who were childhood sweethearts, had ended up like this, as if there had been a period when they couldn't communicate at all.
But matters of the heart don't need extra people to interfere, so she patted his shoulder again.
Bai Yixia finally finished talking to the group of children. She darted to Zhou Qingchi's side and said to Bai Xixi, "If it gets too rainy, sister should take them upstairs to avoid them catching a cold."
"Okay, I know more than you."
"Little Zhou and I are going to buy some drinks. What would you like to drink, sis?"
Bai Xixi waved her hand, "Whatever, whatever, I'm not picky."
The two walked slowly out of the residential area, snowflakes falling on their heads, clinging to their hair and slowly melting into water.
Zhou Qingchi helped her put on her hat and then held her hands by her sides.
Bai Yixia suddenly felt a little dizzy again. Perhaps the excitement earlier had suppressed the effects of the alcohol, but now that she was relaxed, the aftereffects were coming back.
Fortunately, she had a decent alcohol tolerance, so this wasn't enough to get her drunk, but she felt a little dizzy, and a series of happy things for the evening popped into her mind.
Bai Yixia happily shook her head and obediently let herself be led along.
The two of them only realized when they reached the door that it was Lunar New Year's Eve, and the small supermarket outside might not still be open.
After looking at each other for a while, Bai Yixia took the first step and walked over, and was surprised to see that the shop was still lit up.
She greeted Zhou Qingchi and then went inside by herself.
The owner has been running the shop here for many years. When Bai Yixia and her classmates were in junior and senior high school, they would buy grilled sausages here as a late-night snack after their evening classes.
"Boss, Happy New Year! I thought the shop wouldn't be open today." Bai Yixia approached with a smile.
The shop owner, who was sitting at the cashier eating some braised food, saw the two of them and his eyes lit up. "Hey, what brings you out at this hour? Have you eaten yet?"
"It's closing time in a few minutes, time to go home for the New Year."
Bai Yixia was a little slow to react. She blinked slowly and couldn't help but smile. "Oh, I see. We've come at the right time. Let's buy some drinks."
Zhou Qingchi probably noticed that she was a little drunk, so he just gave a brief greeting to the shop owner and went to get a drink from the shelf, leaving Bai Yixia to chat with the shop owner alone.
The boss was fairly familiar with Bai Yixia and could tell she was a little different. He chuckled a few times and asked, "Have you been drinking?"
Bai Yixia held out her hand and gestured, "I only drank a little bit, it's okay."
The boss wholeheartedly agreed, nodding in agreement, "Yes, yes."
The sound of fireworks rose again outside. The boss listened for a while and said to Bai Yixia in a break, "Happy New Year, little sister. You heard the fireworks today. May everything go smoothly for you next year."
No one is unhappy to receive a blessing, and Bai Yixia also wished him well, "May your business prosper and your wealth flow in."
Just then, Zhou Qingchi walked over with drinks and overheard the conversation. He smiled and paid the bill, saying, "Yes. We've just delivered our first big sum of money this year."
Bai Yixia couldn't hold back and burst into laughter. The three of them exchanged well wishes for a while, then the boss's family came to urge them on, so they said goodbye.
The snow outside seemed to have gotten a bit heavier. A snowflake landed on Bai Yixia's eyelashes, and the cold brought her back to her senses.
"Let's go back, the snow is getting heavy," Zhou Qingchi said.
Bai Yixia responded, took the two bottles of drinks, and walked alongside him.
Their home is inside the residential complex, and you have to cross a small bridge to get in and out.
This is the best landscape design in the community. There is an artificial stream under the bridge, which is not small. The property management has put small fish in it.
But most of them don't live long; Bai Yixia witnessed them being replaced regularly.
They were walking in that direction when Bai Yixia could make out the outline of the bridge.
She suddenly slowed down, falling a few steps behind Zhou Qingchi. Perhaps he was also under the influence of alcohol, as he didn't notice that the person next to him had fallen behind and continued to walk slowly forward.
Bai Yixia suddenly looked up, and cold snowflakes fell on her face. She saw that the clouds were thick tonight and she couldn't see the moon.
The streetlights standing by the bridge dutifully lit up, their light shimmering and trembling in the water.
Like the moonlight that shines in.
Bai Yixia thought to herself, "The moonlight is just right tonight."
A few steps ahead, Zhou Qingchi seemed to finally realize that Bai Yixia had broken away from the main group, so he stopped and turned around to look at her.
As Bai Yixia reached the bridgehead, she saw Zhou Qingchi looking over and suddenly called out, "Zhou Qingchi!"
No one is out and about today; meals and snow viewing can all be done at home.
Her heart was pounding in her chest. Bai Yixia took a few quick steps forward, without any prior planning, and finally overcame the obstacle.
As Zhou Qingchi across from her seemed about to say something, Bai Yixia couldn't wait and blurted out what she had been keeping to herself.
"I like you."
I've had this thought bottled up for a long time, from when I was sixteen and just beginning to experience romantic feelings until now. I've wanted to say it many times, but it always got stuck in my throat.
It's not that I'm uncertain, it's that I'm always worried.
But now I finally have no more worries.
Once you've said what you need to say, the rest won't be difficult.
Bai Yixia felt that she had never felt so good before, and she couldn't stop smiling.
Her clear eyes looked at Zhou Qingchi, revealing an undisguised affection.
I've liked you for a long time.
“You know it’s not because of what happened today, you know that.” She was very certain.
"I just realized that today is a really good day, so I couldn't help myself."
She tightened her grip on her drink, her eyes sparkling. "I like you. Will you date me?"
Her response was the sound of a beverage bottle rolling onto the ground.
Zhou Qingchi made up for the few steps she couldn't get closer to. He dropped what he was holding, hugged Bai Yixia tightly, and his eyelashes trembled a few times.
"Yes, I want it."
