Chapter Seventy-Five Fireflies
His hand reached across the table and covered Lin Yu's wrist, which was resting on the armrest. "Don't worry, I'm a practical person. I won't let my wife go hungry."
"It's too early to talk about that now, Mr. Jiang!" Lin Yu casually intertwined his fingers with his, pressing his fingertips against the bulging veins on his forehead. "Did you already think about marrying me on the very first day we started dating?"
“I like to do things in a results-oriented way.” Jiang Chuan did not deny Lin Yu’s words. He turned his head and looked at her seriously, the night light reflecting off his face.
Lin Yu suddenly realized that those eyes, in this remote mountain place, were as dark, bright, and dazzling as the stars in the night sky.
"But why me?" She gently shook the beer can in her hand, turned her head, and asked, half-jokingly, "I'm neither gentle and considerate, nor am I charming and sophisticated. You must have misjudged me, right?"
“You’re special. You have an untamed vitality.” Jiang Chuan tilted his head back and drank the last sip of wine, the empty can making a soft clatter in his palm.
He tossed it casually, and the aluminum can traced an arc before landing precisely in a nearby trash can.
"Actually, I'm not as adept as you think. Perhaps in my heart, you are another version of myself. I just want to witness you go further and achieve more with my support."
Lin Yu listened silently, nodding noncommittally. After a while, she suddenly leaned close to his ear and said, "That's right, I'm excellent. It's your luck that you chose me."
Jiang Chuan chuckled softly, revealing his bright, even teeth, and gently pressed his lips against the back of her hand. "Want to go catch fireflies?"
"Really?" Lin Yu tilted his head back and downed his beer in one gulp, then stood up excitedly. "I've never seen a firefly before."
Lin Yu took Jiang Chuan's hand, and the two locked the gate and walked up the mountain under the dappled moonlight.
There were no streetlights in the village, so Jiang Chuan used his flashlight to illuminate the mountain paths on both sides, making them appear even higher and farther away. A gentle night breeze blew, and the mountains were completely silent; only the breath of nature could be heard, and even the air seemed to be sleeping peacefully.
As they walked, Lin Yu suddenly let go of Jiang Chuan's hand, laughed, ran a few steps forward, and jumped into the beam of the flashlight.
"Look!"
She spread her arms, and her shadow instantly magnified on the mountainside, undulating and shifting like a giant along the mountain's contours. "My shadow is so big and three-dimensional, doesn't it look like Peter Pan?"
Her voice was exceptionally clear in the night. The shadow was abruptly folded up on a steep slope, as if it too possessed a black life, quietly rising in the silent mountain forest.
Suddenly, a firefly rose from the ferns at their feet, brushing past Lin Yu's fingertips before he could retract them. Then, a series of tiny lights appeared.
Jiang Chuan turned off the flashlight, and the surroundings were plunged into boundless darkness, which became the softest velvet, gently enveloping the two of them.
The starry sky and the fireflies flowing on the ground reflected each other, blurring the boundary between heaven and earth. The entire valley seemed to be immersed in a river of shimmering light, gently rippling with the night breeze and with each breath.
Jiang Chuan took Lin Yu's hand again and led her deeper into the mountains.
The babbling brook is hidden among the bamboo groves on both sides of the road, with one or two specks of pale green light occasionally flashing by, like stardust crushed by the evening breeze.
"My God!" Lin Yu immediately held her breath. A firefly was perched on a blade of grass in front of her, its tail glowing dimly like the eyes of nature.
She couldn't resist reaching out to touch it, but the fluorescent light suddenly rose into the air, circled between her fingers, and then playfully flew away. "It's not what I imagined."
She turned back to look at Jiang Chuan indignantly. "They flash by and fly very fast, impossible to catch."
Jiang Chuan's expression was ambiguous in the night. He chuckled and wrapped his arms around her from behind, his warm palm covering the back of her hand, and gently lifted it up. "They are actually very slow, you are too impatient."
Jiang Chuan, with Lin Yu in his arms, slowly approached another firefly perched on a fern leaf. Their hands slowly came together from either side. "You must be patient with your prey!"
In the instant they were close enough, he suddenly tightened his arms, pulling her hand forward. "Once the target is locked, the cleanup has to be quick."
Fireflies are so light that Lin Yu can't feel their presence in his palm. Jiang Chuan slightly loosens his fingers, and the eerie green light leaks out from between their intertwined fingers.
She held her breath, her cheeks flushed red with suppressed excitement, but her eyes shone with an astonishing brightness.
Jiang Chuan saw his own reflection in those clear eyes, and his calm heart was suddenly stirred, rippling with delicate waves. He couldn't help but reach out and cup her face, his fingertips tracing her smooth skin.
Her phone suddenly rang; it was the alarm she had specially set, announcing the start of a new day and Jiang Chuan's birthday.
Lin Yu's palm was like a cocoon bursting open, and fireflies eagerly fluttered their wings and emerged from her palm. But she didn't chase after them to see where they went; she just focused on Jiang Chuan.
"Make a wish quickly!"
The tiny fluorescent lights re-converged in her pupils, reflecting two identical reflections of herself, as if the flickering frequency was sensing her accelerating heartbeat.
"I don't need to make a wish. My request is actually very simple: nothing much!"
Lin Yu paused, sighed, then stood on tiptoe, his breath carrying the coolness of the mountain spring. "Happy birthday, Jiang Chuan! May you always be happy!"
Before the words were even finished, swarms of fireflies burst into light all around them.
Lin Yu's words, like a brush dipped in water, pierced through the paper stuck to Jiang Chuan's heart and spread across his soul.
Those suppressed emotions poured into his chest like mud, giving him a sense of unprincipled enthusiasm and the warmth of being accompanied.
His fingertips trembled slightly, and he could no longer restrain himself, so he lowered his head and kissed her deeply.
Lin Yu finally realized, belatedly, that she was the firefly trapped in the summer night's snare. Jiang Chuan's embrace was like a gentle net, and she had willingly fallen into it.
The moment the door closed, Jiang Chuan's lips pressed down again, and his knee rammed between Lin Yu's legs.
His fingers, like hot irons, gripped Lin Yu's two slender wrists and lifted them above her head, completely trapping her between himself and the door.
Lin Yu struggled to tilt his head back, his body involuntarily pressed against Jiang Chuan, enduring his overwhelming invasion like a mudslide, his mouth agape as he desperately tried to grasp the thin air around him.
In the instant she turned her head to dodge, Jiang Chuan plunged in, his tongue prying open her teeth, sweeping over Lin Yu's warm, slightly beer-scented flesh, while he freed one hand to grasp her full breasts that were responding to him.
Lin Yu felt Jiang Chuan's unprecedented enthusiasm; her oxygen was being taken away little by little, and her head began to spin. "I can't breathe..." she sobbed incoherently.
Her body writhed restlessly under his stormy onslaught. Jiang Chuan loosened his grip, stepped back slightly, and instead began to nibble at her sensitive neck.
She gasped, her fingers unconsciously gripping the back of his shirt, and forced out a broken sentence: "Wait..."
He placed Lin Yu's hand on his chest, briefly pulling himself out of his surging emotions, and looked up at her.
Their intertwined figures were reflected in the full-length mirror by the door. Jiang Chuan grabbed Lin Yu's chin, forcing her to look at her confused reflection in the mirror.
Moonlight streamed into the room from the terrace, revealing Lin Yu's pitifully swollen lips. A few stray strands of hair, disheveled and damp with sweat, clung to her flushed cheeks, making her face glow with an alluring radiance, like a ripe peach.
In the mirror, she looked dazed, her eyes misty as she gazed at Jiang Chuan. A thousand curses flashed through his mind, threatening to burst from his throat and destroy him.
Jiang Chuan leaned down with difficulty, burying his high, straight nose deep into the crook of her neck, breathing heavily. "Banban."
His hoarse voice carried a suppressed sense of danger, and his strong arms tightened around her slender waist, allowing her to feel his burning body temperature through the thin fabric.
"Don't look at me like that." His voice was low, the last syllable disappearing between their rapid, intermittent breathing.
"A birthday present..." Lin Yu's fingertips traced the outline of Jiang Chuan's strong, muscular chest. Jiang Chuan tilted his head back slightly, pulling a sliver of clarity from the fog of desire, his voice still heavy with breath. "It's... in my bag..."
“Now…” A deep resonance came from Jiang Chuan’s chest. He leaned closer again, grinding his sharp canines against his watery lips. “I only need to open the one in front of me.”
His large hand gripped her waist firmly, while his other hand supported her hips, his fingertips sinking into her soft skin. The sensation made Jiang Chuan's breath catch in his throat, and then his kisses became even fiercer and more urgent, as if he wanted to devour her whole.
Lin Yu was overwhelmed by the onslaught, her arms limply wrapped around his neck, her whole body soaking wet as she clung to him, like a piece of melted honey, melting into a puddle of soft mud in his burning embrace.
Lin Yu felt an unbearable urge to undress. He reached out to take off his shirt, but there were too many buttons, and the more he tried, the more chaotic it became. He simply ripped it open, and the loose buttons bounced on the floor with a clattering sound.
A glimpse of spring light appeared on his chest, and the moonlight outlined Jiang Chuan's strong and muscular physique. Large patches of white pectoral muscle, glistening with a thin layer of sweat, shone dazzlingly in the unlit room.
Lin Yu watched as he leaned down, his shadow completely enveloping and swallowing her. Jiang Chuan's lips curled into a fierce smile, and with a sudden burst of strength, he lifted her into the air.
Lin Yu instinctively wrapped her legs around his waist, clinging tightly like vines, swaying precariously in mid-air.
Like a particle suspended in a chemical reagent, she completely lost her balance under Jiang Chuan's kisses and caresses, even her last shred of reason was stirred up and became muddled.
Jiang Chuan carried Lin Yu away from the doorway, supporting her steadily with one hand, and walked towards the bed.
His lips lingered on her neck, his warm, wet tongue licking her throbbing pulse like a paintbrush, sending shivers of pleasure through her skin.
With his other hand, he slipped inside her clothes and deftly unhooked her bra. His burning palm pressed against her waist, moving inch by inch upwards along the curve of her spine.
Lin Yu was suspended in his arms, sandwiched between Jiang Chuan from both sides. He was like a small boat in a storm, tossed about by the waves, and the only thing he could hold onto was the person in front of him.
