Chapter 180 Beaver and Moose

"Honestly, on a night like this, to have such a sumptuous dinner and so many friends sitting together, there's nothing more blissful than this," Yang Chaoyue said with some emotion, her gaze sweeping across everyone's faces, her heart filled with warmth and gratitude.

“We’ve collected quite a bit of timber, Fatty. Starting tomorrow, we can start building interior spaces in the shelter, right?” Wu Jing asked.

“We can build them one room at a time. If there isn’t enough internal space, we can dig outwards horizontally.”

Tomorrow morning, instead of sawing down the trees, the three of you can work together to build the space for the internal shelter.

In the morning, Li Qin, instead of fishing, go with Yang Chaoyue to pick all the blueberries in that patch and bring them back to make blueberry jam. Otherwise, the blueberries will rot on the ground and waste nature's gift.

"As for me, I'll take a walk along the lake and see if I can find anything else." After Li Yinsheng arranged the tasks for tomorrow, everyone nodded in agreement.

As for the semi-underground shelter they plan to build, it will have three bedrooms, a living room, and a bathroom, with one bedroom for men and one for women. Each of the two bedrooms will have a fireplace for grilling, cooking, and keeping warm.

After all, it will snow here in ten days to two weeks, marking the start of winter. The coldest temperatures here can reach minus forty or fifty degrees Celsius.

They all knew that in this extreme environment, a safe and cozy shelter was key to survival.

Therefore, in their design, they strive to maximize the use of every inch of space and enhance comfort.

In addition to basic living needs, they also planned a spacious living room area, which will be their space for daily activities, communication, relaxation, and dining.

The living room connects to the front door, and a fireplace is also built there.

The last room is for personal hygiene and important life events; it is divided into two rooms.

They had already drawn up blueprints for building the shelter, and now they are working towards that goal.

Day 3 of "Man vs. Wild".

Early that morning, Li Qin got up to haul in her gillnet. When she went to check the lake in the morning, she was pleasantly surprised to find that she had caught several lively trout and pike, as well as a few small shrimp and some aquatic plants entangled in the net, which was obviously the catch from the previous night.

Two fish were grilled in the morning, and after sharing them, everyone went back to their respective tasks.

With her bow and arrows in hand, Li Yinsheng continued searching for potential prey or food sources along the downstream shore of the lake.

Sunlight filtered through the sparse clouds, casting its glow on the shimmering lake surface, adding warmth and hope to the day's work in the wilderness.

Li Yinsheng's steps were light and cautious. Her eyes were sharp, constantly scanning the lakeside. Her ears were also always on alert, trying to catch any subtle sounds.

Soon, her gaze was drawn to a flock of waterbirds frolicking on the shallows.

These waterbirds, with their bright plumage and graceful posture, are pecking at plankton in the water.

These waterbirds look quite large, but in reality, they aren't that big once they've molted. If you shoot one, the others will definitely be startled and fly away. Rather than wasting time shooting only one waterbird and having to swim to get more prey, it's better to look around some more.

Let's see if we can find a more abundant source of food.

Li Yinsheng made her own plans, carefully slung the bow and arrows over her shoulder, and continued on her way.

Passing through a patch of low bushes, Li Yinsheng's eyes lit up. In the distance, in a body of water, she spotted a nest made of dead branches and grass in a corner of the lake.

“This is a nest built by a beaver.” Li Yinsheng stepped forward to examine it, approaching cautiously.

Beavers typically build their dens underwater or on secluded banks. With their nimble forepaws and strong teeth, they cleverly weave the surrounding dead branches, leaves, weeds, and mud into a safe and comfortable home.

Li Yinsheng crouched down, trying not to make a sound, afraid of disturbing these small and agile creatures. She noticed that the entrance to the nest was cleverly designed above the water level, which both prevented flooding and made it easy for beavers to enter and exit to forage.

Suddenly, tiny ripples appeared on the water around the nest, traces left by beavers swimming in the water.

Li Yinsheng held her breath, her eyes following the barely perceptible ripples, trying to catch a glimpse of the beaver, but apart from a few ripples that gradually disappeared, she found nothing else.

Beavers are most active at dawn or dusk, when they choose to go out to forage. Only during these two time periods is there a chance to hunt beavers, and a lot of luck is also required.

Just as Li Yinsheng was about to give up and leave quietly, a faint but rapid sound of water came from the bushes not far away.

She immediately became alert, leaning forward slightly. The sound grew closer, accompanied by a soft splashing sound, and a glossy-furred, lithe beaver poked its head out from among the water plants.

Its eyes were alert and curious. After looking around and seemingly confirming that there was no danger, it swam safely back to its nest.

"A good opportunity." Li Yinsheng took out his bow and arrow, drew the bow, aimed, and with a 'whoosh', the arrow cut through the air like lightning and headed straight for the target.

However, the beaver reacted with extreme agility. As if sensing danger, it suddenly shifted its body to the side almost instantly. The arrow, which was originally meant to hit its head, instead struck the beaver's abdomen instead.

After being injured, the beaver plunged into the water with a splash, creating a spray of water. The red mark in the water spread, and then the beaver disappeared.

"What a pity." Li Yinsheng quickly stepped forward to check the water surface, but did not see any abnormal ripples, as if the water beaver had completely disappeared into this body of water.

She frowned, feeling both regret and resentment; she had lost over ten kilograms of flesh for nothing.

After waiting a while, Li Yinsheng looked at the calm water surface, sighed softly, and slowly lowered the bow and arrow.

Continuing to walk slowly along the shore of the lake, Li Yinsheng had not gone far when she discovered a giant creature on the opposite side of the lake.

"Moo!" A huge moose was crossing the lake. Its dark brown fur gleamed slightly in the sunlight, and its huge antlers were as intricate as ancient tree branches, making it look both majestic and mysterious.

Li Yinsheng stopped in her tracks, her eyes widening in surprise and awe.

I had only ever seen moose on TV before, and they didn't seem very big. But seeing them in person now, this enormous moose seemed like a creature that had stepped out of an ancient forest legend. Every step it took gently rippled the lake, creating delicate waves.

It's shocking.
