Chapter 22 The Heart of the Banana

"Are you thirsty? Come on, let's find something to eat to quench our thirst." After cutting thatch for more than half an hour, the chubby girl was not only exhausted and sweating profusely, but also very thirsty.

Zhang Yixing was also a little thirsty, so he nodded to the chubby girl.

Then, the chubby girl led Zhang Yixing into a dense forest and headed straight for a banana tree.

By this time, the bananas on the banana tree had already been cut down by Li Yinsheng and the others and taken back to the shelter; only a few banana leaves remained on the tree.

Li Yinsheng stepped forward, took a Swiss Army knife, and chopped down the banana tree. After removing the top and collecting the banana leaves, he used the knife to make a vertical cut on the trunk and began to peel back the banana leaves to extract the core for quenching his thirst and filling his stomach.

"Fatty, do you want to eat the banana core?" Zhang Yixing asked, seemingly having discerned Li Yinsheng's intention.

"Yes, you've never eaten it before?" Li Yinsheng asked with a smile as she peeled the banana core.

"I've never eaten it before," Zhang Yixing said, shaking his head.

“I’ve never eaten it before either. I’ve heard that the core of a banana tastes sweet, like sugarcane. It can also quench thirst and relieve heat, so it’s perfect for us.” Li Yinsheng said, having already completely peeled the core of the banana and handed half to Zhang Yixing.

Zhang Yixing took the banana core, took a bite, and found it still had some fibers. It was indeed sweet and juicy, very thirst-quenching. As he ate, he looked at Li Yinsheng's smiling, plump face, and his affection for her grew even stronger.

"Thank you, Fatty," Zhang Yixing said sincerely.

"It's nothing. We're companions now, so helping each other is only right. Hurry up and eat. Later, we'll collect some banana leaves and banana hearts to take back to the leader, Yingbao, and Yifei. I'm sure they've never tried these things before, so it'll be a good opportunity for them to try something new." Li Yinsheng smiled and shook her head.

“Okay.” Zhang Yixing nodded in agreement. After finishing the banana core, the two continued with their work.

Li Yinsheng already knew exactly how many banana trees were around the shelter.

Li Yinsheng deliberately led Zhang Yixing straight to the banana tree, where they cut down the tree, extracted the core, and collected banana leaves.

Before long, they had collected a large pile of banana leaves and banana cores.

"That's about enough, let's head back." Zhang Yixing carried a bundle of banana leaves, and Li Yinsheng wrapped a few banana hearts in the leaves before returning to the camp.

After they returned to the camp, everyone else came back as well.

"Fatty, we don't have to do any heavy work today, so I decided to roast some bananas and cook the seafood we found while beachcombing in one pot," Li Xiang said to Li Yinsheng after helping Zhang Yixing put down the banana leaves.

"No problem, we brought some food back with us."

"What did you bring?" Zhao Liying looked at the thing wrapped in banana leaves in Li Yinsheng's hand and asked curiously.

"Take a look for yourself." Li Yinsheng handed the things in her hand to Zhao Liying.

“This is…” Zhao Liying opened it and didn’t recognize it at first glance.

"This is the heart of a banana plant. It's very juicy. When we're out in the wild and can't find water or food, we usually use banana hearts to quench our thirst and fill our stomachs. It's much more useful than other fruits," Li Xiang explained from the side.

"It's sweet and juicy, quite delicious." Zhao Liying is indeed a true foodie. Since arriving on the island, it seems that she has never said anything bad about anything edible.

"Yingbao, quite a few people watch this show, so be careful, otherwise your reputation as a foodie will be firmly established," Huang Xiaoming joked.

"Hmph, so what if I'm a foodie? I'm a foodie and I'm proud of it." Zhao Liying proudly raised her head.

"Teacher Li, Master, have you two checked the pheasant traps yet? Have you caught any pheasants? Have they been triggered?" Li Yinsheng asked, thinking of this.

“The trap was triggered, but no prey was caught. I looked around, and it seems the flock of pheasants hasn’t passed by. I’m afraid the flock you encountered last time just happened to pass by there, and their activity range is no longer around where the trap was set,” Li Xiang said, shaking his head.

"Teacher Li, do you know how to make bows and arrows?" Li Yinsheng asked, changing the subject.

"I know this. Fatty, you know archery?" Li Xiang asked, looking at Li Yinsheng with some surprise.

Even Huang Xiaoming and Liu Yifei looked over.

"I thought that once the shelter was tidied up today, the job would be done. From now on, we could focus on finding food. Now that we've found a flock of pheasants, we're bound to find other prey. With bows and arrows in hand, we'll have more hunting methods, which will greatly increase our chances of getting food."

"I happen to know a little bit about archery, and it's a good way to pass the time during the day to practice," Li Yinsheng explained.

"Okay, after I finish setting up the shelter, I'll make bows and arrows."

However, making bows and arrows in the wild requires replacing many materials, which would likely significantly reduce their power. Li wanted to lay out the unpleasant truth beforehand to avoid being blamed if he couldn't catch any prey.

"I know that. Let's give it a try. Something is better than nothing." Li Yinsheng nodded. Now that she had basic archery skills, she had a chance to shoot a pheasant if she had prey.

"good."

After breakfast, Group A got busy again, with Zhang Yixing and the leader carrying back the thatch that Li Yinsheng had cut.

Zhao Liying and Liu Yifei collected moss and used it to fill the cracks around the shelter to prevent rainwater or sand from getting in when it rained or the wind blew.

Li Yinsheng learned weaving from Li Xiang. The thatch covering the shelter's roof needed to be woven into a sturdy cover to protect it from wind and rain.

Although it was a delicate and time-consuming task, Li Yinsheng showed great patience and perseverance. She carefully observed Li Xiang's movements and tried to imitate them. Although her knitting technique was clumsy and unfamiliar at first, she gradually mastered the skills over time, and the speed and quality of her knitting improved significantly.

At the same time, Zhang Yixing and the cult leader carried back the cut thatch.

They were exhausted and covered in sweat, but the sense of satisfaction and accomplishment they felt as they watched the shelter gradually improve made them forget their fatigue.

As time went by, and over the course of the morning, the shelter was gradually completed. It was thatched on all sides, and the moss-filled gaps concealed no flaws. Although the shelter appeared simple, it was filled with a warm and welcoming atmosphere.

In the afternoon, I simply ate a coconut snail and a few grilled bananas for a quick meal.

In the afternoon, Li Xiang led them to first build a fireplace, then partition the interior of the shelter with wood, and finally use thatched roofs as cover, turning one shelter into two.

Later, a small warehouse was built on the left side of the shelter's eaves, which could be used to store both timber and food.

On the third day on Jinsha Island, Group A's shelter was finally completed.
