Chapter 271 Our Wedding (Part 2)
The wedding between two men was relatively simple, without any of the traditional rituals like hiding wedding shoes or eating red dates and peanuts. Xia Mian took Zhou Pingchuan's bouquet, and amidst waves of cheers, the couple restrained themselves and shared a kiss, thus concluding their wedding ceremony.
Zhou Pingchuan's parents died early, and Xia Mian had a strained relationship with her biological parents, so the ceremony of changing their names to each other was canceled, and the two went straight into the wedding car.
Just as he closed the car door and before he could even put the bouquet away, Zhou Pingchuan suddenly grabbed Xia Mian by the back of the head and kissed her without saying a word.
He kissed her very boldly. Xia Mian initially wanted to remind him to be gentle and not smudge her lip makeup, but as soon as she opened her mouth, his tongue slipped in.
Their lips rubbed together, their tongues intertwined, and Xia Mian's mind grew increasingly muddled from the kisses. Finally, he simply gave up struggling. After all, he was the most dazzling guy in the entire sea; he deserved the privilege of being happy!
After the kiss, the wedding car journey was already halfway over.
Fortunately, no media were invited to the wedding, otherwise Xia Mian could have guessed what the paparazzi would write.
[Zhou Xia, overcome with pent-up desire at her wedding, throws out tongues wildly, leading to a passionate scene in the wedding car!]
Just thinking about that scene makes Xia Mian's scalp tingle.
"I'll have to touch it up later, can't you just bear with it?" Looking at the lip makeup that had been smudged and almost completely gone in the rearview mirror, Xia Mian blamed Zhou Pingchuan.
Zhou Pingchuan: "I'm sorry, I couldn't control myself. But I really wanted to kiss you, I wanted to even when we were getting married."
Even after being together for so long, Xia Mian still couldn't resist Zhou Pingchuan's occasional straightforward sweet talk: "Fine, I forgive you. What happened this morning? Why did you come over early without waiting for a message?"
What do you expect him to say?
To say he was impatient?
To say he couldn't wait even a second?
Did he say he was suffering?
Zhou Pingchuan pondered for a moment: "The auspicious time has arrived."
Xia Mian: "...When did you calculate the auspicious time?"
According to their local customs, the most important thing is the betrothal ceremony and signing the marriage certificate, followed by obtaining the marriage certificate, and finally the wedding ceremony. Many weddings are held on dates chosen by the couple according to their preferences; as long as they're happy, there aren't many strict rules.
Zhou Pingchuan: "A long time ago."
He spoke in a very serious tone, and Xia Mian nodded, having been fooled.
The wedding was held at the temple.
The temple is rectangular and consists of three halls: the front hall, the main hall, and the rear hall. The main hall has eight white columns on each of its east and west sides, and fifteen white columns on each of its north and south sides. The columns are carved with scenes of rare birds and flowers and human production and labor. Behind the main hall is a statue of the sacred goddess Hera.
After deciding to buy the island, Zhou Pingchuan received a lot of information. When he came across the information about the temple, he immediately decided to buy the island.
He had a feeling that Xia Mian would like this place.
Sure enough, when Xia Mian saw the temple, she hugged him and laughed and jumped.
"This must be fate! It's amazing!" The boy's eyes shone brightly. "Hera is the goddess of family and marriage. Brother Chuan, I'm destined to exchange rings with you here!"
Zhou Pingchuan didn't say anything, but smiled and kissed his forehead. Actually, where the rings were exchanged wasn't important; what mattered was who they were exchanged with.
Or rather, Zhou Pingchuan didn't need the ring; he only wanted Xia Mian.
Next came the ceremony, where the newlyweds stood in the center of the temple, in front of the statue of Hera, feeling the blessings of the guests and the gods.
Miraculously, at the moment the rings were exchanged, two colorful butterflies suddenly flew into the hall and hovered above Xia Mian's head.
The tiare flowers are fragrant and easily attract butterflies. But for some reason, seeing them gave Xia Mian a strange feeling, as if someone had come to see him from the shadows.
"I do." Zhou Pingchuan slipped the ring onto Xia Mian's index finger, his tone calm yet resolute.
Xia Mian looked away and carefully placed the wedding ring on Zhou Pingchuan's finger: "I do. Zhou Pingchuan, I will love you forever."
The islanders placed tiare wreaths on the newlyweds, and amidst a shower of white petals, the couple completed their ceremony. After more than a year of sweet and bittersweet experiences, they finally became an inseparable whole, a perfect circle.
Next came the toasting ceremony, with guests led by the butler to the beach. On the beach, the chef had prepared a sumptuous buffet. The newlyweds changed into their toasting attire, filled the champagne tower, and went to toast each guest one by one.
They didn't invite many people, just close relatives and friends. Xia Mian was surprised that Xia Dongbo and Tang Wenhua actually came!
"Mianmian, I wish you a long and happy marriage." The couple handed him a large red envelope.
Xia Mian accepted it without hesitation, saying, "Thank you."
“And another one, Ah Ting, Ming Zhao, come here!” Tang Wenhua called out.
The two people who were chatting came over laughing and talking when they heard this, and each handed Xia Mian a box: "Xia Mian, happy wedding!"
If the two were still together, one gift would have sufficed. But since two were prepared, Xia Mian could more or less guess the outcome. She clinked glasses with them separately and said, "Thank you."
After exchanging a few words, they continued toasting. In a quiet corner, Ren Xiping and Xue Chunling, both wearing red cheongsams, huddled together, seemingly talking about something. A young man who looked like a college student helped push Xue Chunling's wheelchair while looking around.
...It turned out to be Xiao He from the bakery on the back street!
To prevent unscrupulous media from entering, the wedding was by invitation only; only those with invitations could come to the island. It's likely that Ren Xiping brought him there.
Xia Mian was a little worried about them: "Mom, Aunt Xue, are you not used to the food? I asked the kitchen to cook seafood noodles for you."
“We’re used to it, how could we not be? You guys go about your business, don’t worry about us. Oh, by the way, Xiao He said he wanted to attend the wedding, so I brought him along,” Ren Xiping explained.
Weddings are all about having a lively atmosphere. If Xia Mian's job weren't so demanding, there would be no need for an invitation system. He'd practically throw a three-day, three-night feast!
"Thank you for coming." Xia Mian raised her glass to Xiao He.
"I should be thanking you! Thank you for bringing me abroad. The ocean is so beautiful!" Xiao He shrank her neck and handed him a beautifully packaged box.
"It's beautifully wrapped. Oh, by the way, I still don't know your full name."
“He Mian,” the young man paused, “the Mian of cotton.”
He Mian... He Mian... In an instant, Xia Mian felt as if he had been struck by fate, experiencing an indescribable sense of mystery. As he pondered this, the photographer suddenly shouted, "Handsome guys and beautiful girls, time for a photo! Let's take a group photo first!"
We knew that some people would inevitably get drunk and die, so we decided to take a group photo as soon as possible. Hearing this, everyone put down their plates and ran towards the beach.
The photographer and assistant helped adjust the positions. At first, they wanted to divide the group by the Zhou and Xia families, but some people were hard to categorize. Then they tried to divide them by height, but Zhao Xiaohui and Yao Yao both thought they were tall and insisted on standing on tiptoe to grab seats in the back row.
The photographer was both amused and exasperated: "Oh dear, it's a joyous day, stand however you're happy. Are you all having a good time today?"
The guests shouted in unison, "Happy!"
"So what would you like to say to the newcomers?"
"Happy wedding, may your love never sleep!!!"
In the instant the image froze, two colorful butterflies flew into the frame, lingered for a few seconds, and then fluttered away.
Their love will never sleep.
