Chapter 130 Visiting the Set
Perhaps thinking he was busy, Zhou Pingchuan only called once, and when he didn't answer, he didn't call again.
Xia Mian glanced at the missed call notification on her phone, tightened her grip on her down jacket, then casually picked up the script and continued to familiarize herself with the lines for the next scene.
Actually, having a film to shoot was quite good for him, as it distracted him from most of his attention. Therefore, he was even more serious and put in 200% effort during filming. The result, of course, was good; the filming that night was successfully completed as planned.
You could tell Gao Yifeng was also very happy. After finishing work, he called out, "Come on, Xia, let's go back in my car."
The crew booked a hotel for all the cast and crew members at the foot of the mountain. Gao Yifeng asked him to come along, not to discuss the script, but to find out about today's trending topics. Xia Mian didn't refuse and got into Gao Yifeng's car.
On the way back to the hotel, Gao Yifeng indeed shared a lot of professional knowledge with Xia Mian, most of which incorporated his own understanding. Xia Mian benefited greatly and, for the first time, sincerely expressed her gratitude, saying, "Thank you, Director Gao."
"No need to thank me, it's because you acted well that I have nothing to worry about. We're here, let's go upstairs together."
There's a small town at the foot of the mountain, not a popular tourist destination, with only a handful of hotels. The film crew booked the best one. However, the accommodations were basic; the building had three floors, and the director, the lead actors, and the second lead actors were all in business suites on the third floor.
Xia Mian nodded and got out of the car with Gao Yifeng.
It was late at night, and most of the other hotel guests had already gone to sleep. Xia Mian and Gao Yifeng went up to the third floor together. Just as they got off the elevator, two male voices came from a room on the left side of the corridor.
"...Why did you have to provoke him for no reason?"
“I didn’t provoke him; he attacked first.”
"There's no such thing as a grudge without a reason. There must be a reason why he attacked. Could it be related to Young Master Liu? They were on the same variety show... By the way, Jing Cheng, I heard that Young Master Liu hasn't contacted you recently?"
Tan Jingcheng remained silent for a long time.
The other person seemed to understand something: "Ah, Xia Mian ruined your relationship with Young Master Liu."
"I don't know, but the Second Young Master likes Xia Mian."
"So you went and slept with her husband?"
“It’s not called ‘doing it,’” Tan Jingcheng said matter-of-factly. “I still need to find another investor.”
The other person paused for a moment, then surprisingly agreed, "That's true, everyone needs someone to rely on. But that guy from the Zhou family... quite a few people have tried to get close to him, but all have failed. You, on the other hand, seem to have..."
Next, the two probably had a private conversation, their voices getting lower and lower until they couldn't be heard outside.
Gao Yifeng had been in contact with Tan Jingcheng's team, so he could naturally tell that the person speaking to Tan Jingcheng was his agent.
"...What kind of company is this!" Gao Yifeng cursed, glancing at Xia Mian's face. "How can they justify destroying a marriage like this!"
Xia Mian really wanted to punch Tan Jingcheng a few more times, but then she remembered that her mother had once taught him not to be jealous over love, as it was not elegant.
He only glanced at Gao Yifeng: "Director Gao, thank you for your guidance. I'll go back to my room to remove my makeup now."
Gao Yifeng: "...Go ahead, get some rest."
Destroying a marriage is certainly wrong, but in the world of fame and fortune, such things happen far too often, and it's common for couples to go their separate ways.
After all, one cannot have it all. If one gains fame, status, and money, one must always give something in return for an equivalent exchange.
Therefore, Gao Yifeng's biggest worry is not that Tan Jingcheng is ruining the marriage, but that Xia Mian is too young and might impulsively start a fight, ruining the entire show.
Fortunately, the summer hibernation seemed peaceful.
Gao Yifeng breathed a sigh of relief and also looked at the young actor with new respect.
It's truly remarkable that he remained calm and composed in the face of marital turmoil. Especially tonight, his performance during filming was exceptional; such composure requires exceptional professional skill.
Gao Yifeng had to admit that he needed to re-evaluate this "all looks and no substance" young heartthrob.
Xia Mian ignored Gao Yifeng, greeted him, and went back to her room on her own.
The small hotel has limited rooms, so Chestnut and Yellow were put on the first floor, not on the same floor as Summer. Chestnut had come back early to turn on the air conditioning and prepare a bath for Summer, worried that she might get cold.
"Take off your makeup first, dinner will be delivered soon," Chestnut reminded her. "By the way, Xia, your phone rang again just now, with the same contact name."
Xia Mian lowered her eyes and said, "Mm."
The news broke today and Li Zi saw it immediately. She was a little worried about Xia Mian and could vaguely guess who was on the other end of the phone. She tentatively asked, "Then...aren't you going to reply?"
Xia Mian didn't know why Zhou Pingchuan was calling, and wanted to explain to him.
Should he believe it?
This was the first time he had ever felt his heart flutter, the first time he had ever truly liked someone. His thoughts were in turmoil, and he didn't know how to handle it.
But constantly running away is definitely not the solution.
"Let's go back tomorrow," Xia Mian said.
After removing his makeup, he quietly took a hot bath, ate a late-night snack, and tidied everything up. It was already 1 a.m.
Chestnut packed up the trash, said goodnight to Xia Mian, and went back downstairs to sleep, leaving him alone in the room.
When he's tired, Xia Mian actually prefers to stay quietly by himself rather than go out to play. But when he lay in bed and looked up at the moonlight, which was obscured by clouds and indistinct, he realized for the first time that a night that was too quiet could make him feel uneasy.
I'm so panicked I can't sleep.
He sat up again, turned on the bedside reading lamp, and picked up his phone.
Looking at the two missed calls in red in his call log, he took a deep breath and was just about to call back when his phone suddenly vibrated.
Someone called him.
The notes were exactly the same as those two missed calls.
Summer Sleep stared wide-eyed in disbelief.
Actually, when he decided to call back, he kept thinking that Zhou Pingchuan must be asleep at this time. So he didn't expect the call to go through at all; he just wanted to make the call so that he could fall asleep peacefully.
Unexpectedly, Zhou Pingchuan called again.
Did he not go to bed on time today?
Throughout history, successful people have all meticulously planned their time, and Zhou Pingchuan is no exception. If it weren't for work, he would go to bed at 11:30 PM or midnight every day without fail.
Could something have happened back home?
After hesitating for a moment, Xia Mian finally pressed the answer button: "Hello."
"Go downstairs."
Xia Mian didn't quite understand: "What did you say?"
"Now, go downstairs."
Summer was feeling groggy. She put on her down jacket and tiptoed downstairs.
Stepping out of the hotel, I noticed it had snowed again sometime earlier, the road covered in a white blanket. Across the street, a tall, lanky man, wearing a navy blue ankle-length coat, stood facing the wind, holding a stag antler cane.
He had probably been standing downstairs for a while, and snowflakes were falling on his shoulders and head.
"It must be so cold!" Xia Mian hurriedly ran over, raising her chin, which was red from the cold, and asked, "...Zhou Pingchuan, aren't you in Beijing? What are you doing on set?"
The other person lowered their head, their expression as aloof and dignified as ever, but with a barely perceptible smile in the corner of their eyes: "I'm here to visit the set, is that not allowed?"
