Chapter 33 "Does Chairman He think I'm qualified to clean up his mess?"
Zhou Pingchuan glanced out the window.
The young man was eating, holding a plate and a wine glass. A middle-aged man in his fifties stood in front of him, his mouth opening and closing as if trying to strike up a conversation.
The young man clearly didn't want to talk to him and resolutely refused to back down. However, the middle-aged man took advantage of the situation and pressed him closer and closer until he had almost cornered the young man against the wall.
Cheng Qi also witnessed this scene; flirting with a guest at his event was tantamount to slapping him in the face.
What's more, this person was brought by Zhou Pingchuan. Cheng Qi immediately exploded, slamming his hand on the table: "You three keep playing, I'm going downstairs to check things out." Then he called a few people and hurried downstairs.
"Make way, what's going on?" Cheng Qi walked through the room filled with elegant ladies and walked to that corner before he could see who the middle-aged man was.
It turns out to be Ho Shing, a real estate tycoon from Hong Kong Island!
He Cheng is a womanizer who enjoys hunting for women everywhere. He has been dominating the front page of Hong Kong entertainment news for years and can be called a model of "old in years but young in heart".
In recent years, the Cheng and He families have been cooperating. An invitation was sent to Hong Kong Island for this dinner, but He Cheng declined, saying he was unwell.
Who knows why it suddenly came.
And he's causing trouble everywhere!
Given the cooperative relationship between the two companies and the fact that the other party was an elder, Cheng Qi couldn't directly lash out, so he suppressed his anger: "Uncle He, when did you arrive? Why didn't you tell me? Come, let me take you to sober up."
“I didn’t want to come, but Lao Cheng kept inviting me so warmly that I couldn’t refuse. But luckily I came,” He Cheng laughed heartily, “otherwise I wouldn’t have met this young man. Xiao Qi, I get along very well with this young man, please introduce me to him.”
He Cheng has a loud voice to begin with, and with his fluent Cantonese-accented Mandarin, the guests who were chatting in twos and threes immediately stopped their conversation and looked over here.
Cheng Qi definitely couldn't introduce her to He Cheng; he wasn't a pimp. Besides, everyone knew Xia Mian's true identity.
He wanted to get rid of He Cheng and, incidentally, teach this young man a lesson he shouldn't covet. But Xia Mian exploded first: "Agreeable? Are you dreaming? I don't think we're compatible. Go somewhere cool and stay there!"
Businessmen value outward harmony and are used to using underhanded tactics. It had been a long time since they had heard such a direct and angry outburst, so everyone was taken aback.
He Cheng looked at Wild Rose, not angry at all: "You're quite straightforward, no wonder. Young man, it's very interesting to be friends with me. I can give you everything you like. Don't you want to give it a try?"
Xia Mian: "You're really stupid. I don't need you, you old coffin ladle, to give me what I like. I'll say it one last time, go somewhere cool and stay away from me."
The words were crude but the meaning was sound, but Xia Mian's words were so crude that several guests in the room couldn't help but laugh out loud.
He Cheng's face flushed red and then turned pale: "I'll say it one last time, don't push your luck and anger me, or no one here will clean up your mess!"
Xia Mian had never been insulted like that before. She was so angry that her lungs hurt. She grabbed her wine glass and wanted to throw it at He Cheng's head!
If things really escalated, things would definitely get out of control tonight. Cheng Qi quickly gave the bodyguard a look, intending to forcibly pull He Cheng away.
Just then, a male voice suddenly came from behind: "Does Chairman He think I'm qualified to take care of his mess?"
The man's voice was deep and chilling, and everyone instinctively looked behind them.
Zhou Pingchuan, leaning on his deer antler cane, strolled leisurely toward them, and guests made way for him wherever he went.
He Cheng was also startled, and instantly sobered up, his expression returning to clarity: "Mr. Zhou, it's been a long time."
Despite the age difference of over thirty years between them, He Cheng's act of greeting Zhou Pingchuan first was already quite respectful. Logically, once Zhou Pingchuan led the man away, the matter should have been considered closed.
He showed no sign of leaving, standing there leaning on his cane: "Indeed, it's been a long time. The next time I saw him was Chairman He reaching out to my people."
The three words, "my people," carried unmistakable weight. A murmur of discussion immediately broke out in the meeting room.
Cheng Qi was also hearing Zhou Pingchuan use such words for the first time, and his surprise was no less than that of the other guests.
He reminded He Cheng, "Uncle He, you should apologize to Xia Sheng quickly, so as not to damage our relationship."
Before coming, He Cheng had drunk two rounds with his friends and was in high spirits when he saw Xia Mian. He was so excited that he got carried away and started to seduce her, but little did he know that he had stirred up a hornet's nest.
After being repeatedly criticized by the young people, his face turned extremely ugly. He clasped his hands in a fist salute to Zhou Pingchuan and said, "I lost my composure this time. I hope Chairman Zhou and Mr. Xia will forgive me."
After speaking, he lowered his head, his face flushed, and left.
Cheng Qi looked at Zhou Pingchuan, wanting to know if he was satisfied with the outcome.
Zhou Pingchuan's expression remained unchanged.
"Never mind, let him go." Xia Mian, unfazed by the advances, generously put down the wine bottle.
Zhou Pingchuan then turned and left.
Since the incident happened at his police station, Cheng Qi wanted to treat Xia Mian to a meal to calm her nerves, but Zhou Pingchuan waved his hand, indicating that he was leaving.
Before she could ask the question she wanted to ask, Xia Mian could only follow closely behind him and get into the car with him.
On the way, he glanced at Zhou Pingchuan several times. The other man was leaning on the armrest and seemed... not very happy.
Not wanting to make a fool of himself, Xia Mian leaned back in the back seat, closed his eyes to rest, and also to let off the smell of alcohol.
Xia Mian herself has a high alcohol tolerance, but this body seems to have had little exposure to alcohol, as she got a little tipsy after only drinking half a glass of sweet wine and half a glass of red wine.
The high temperatures in Nangang, coupled with the cool air conditioning in the car, made him feel even more dizzy and drowsy.
He didn't know how much time had passed when the car came to a stop. He opened his eyes and found the car parked outside the hotel. Zhou Pingchuan got out of the car, and seeing that the other party didn't seem to mind, he followed them into the hotel.
The hotel butler opened the door for them. The room was pitch black, and they couldn't see anything clearly. Xia Mian felt around in the entryway but couldn't find the light switch. She asked the butler, "Where's the light?"
His response was the sound of the door closing.
The housekeeper closed the door for them and went back to his shift.
"Third Master," Xia Mian had to ask someone else, "did you see the opening—"
Before he could even utter the word "close," he was suddenly shoved against the wall by an arm.
A hoarse, deep voice rang out in the darkness: "Xia Mian, take off your necklace."
