Chapter 172 The Ice Coffin in the Basement

Just as the little girl's skipping figure disappeared at the edge of the woods, the man lying on the ground with a bluish-purple face suddenly twitched his fingers.

At the same time, the bodyguards who had also been poisoned and "died" got up from the ground one by one.

"Follow her."

Shen Yanqing narrowed his eyes and spoke in a deep voice.

Fortunately, he had already sensed something was wrong and had everyone take the antidote pills in advance.

He had been involved in the underworld for many years and had encountered all kinds of assassinations, so he always carried antidotes with him.

Big Head and a few others chased after the little girl.

Not long after they left, Shen Yanqing received a location from Da Fa on her phone. The location was on a mountain not far from the forest.

He looked up through the dense woods at that spot.

The bright sunlight shone on the leaves, casting dappled shadows.

Through the gaps in the leaves, you can see a traditional Chinese courtyard nestled halfway up the mountain.

He narrowed his eyes; he had finally found it.

Gu Baiwei didn't know how long she had been unconscious. Lately, she seemed to be fainting all the time, but when she woke up, she would always forget what happened before she fainted.

She rubbed her eyes and sat up in bed.

With a meow, something jumped from the open window and landed at her feet, making a purring sound.

The soft touch on her ankle made her lower her head.

A calico cat was affectionately rubbing against her exposed, fair calf.

As if sensing that she was awake, the cat raised its amber eyes and rubbed its head against her calves a few more times in a coaxing manner.

What an adorable little guy.

She couldn't help but reach out and gently rub the calico cat's head.

The calico cat immediately squinted its eyes comfortably and even purred softly, as if to say, "Pet me, pet me, keep going."

Its fur is very soft, as if it has just been sun-dried, and feels warm to the touch, with a hint of sunshine.

Gu Baiwei felt inexplicably familiar with the scene, but she couldn't quite place it no matter how hard she tried.

She sighed; her amnesia seemed to have gotten worse lately.

He bent down, picked the cat up from the ground, opened the door, and went outside.

The courtyard seemed unusually quiet today; she walked around for a while but didn't encounter a single person.

Qi Yu usually gets up very early. In the past, when she got up, she would see him standing in the yard with a smile as soon as she opened the door.

Not only Qi Yu, but even Ye Mei, who was with him, was nowhere to be seen today.

A strange feeling inexplicably arose in her heart.

The calico cat she was holding suddenly meowed, broke free from her arms, and jumped to the ground.

"Hey, wait a minute."

Gu Baiwei hurriedly tried to catch the cat, but saw that the cat had actually climbed up the artificial hill next to it in a flash.

Suddenly, a soft click came from the artificial rockery, as if the cat's paw had pressed against something.

Gu Baiwei was stunned for a moment, then curiously leaned closer.

Then I noticed that a cave had appeared on the artificial hill at some point.

Before she could go forward to check, the calico cat meowed and darted into the cave that had just appeared.

Gu Baiwei didn't know what she was thinking; on a whim, she followed them inside.

She regretted it as soon as she went in. The cave was pitch black, and the sunlight shining in through the narrow opening only illuminated a small area at her feet.

Further inside, there was pitch-black darkness, with a chilling aura that sent shivers down one's spine.

She instinctively shrank her neck and took two steps back, intending to return the way she came, but she didn't know what she encountered. The stone door behind her suddenly clicked shut, closing tightly in front of her.

Once the stone door closed, the entire cave was completely shrouded in darkness.

The sound from outside was blocked by the stone door, and inside it was so quiet that only her own frantic heartbeat and tense breathing could be heard.

Whether it was her imagination or not, Gu Baiwei felt as if breathing had become difficult in an instant.

The boundless darkness made her heart pound with anxiety, almost as if it would jump out of her chest, especially since the temperature inside the cave seemed much lower than outside.

Gu Baiwei stood there for only a moment before feeling as if she were in an air-conditioned room with the temperature set to the lowest setting, with a chill permeating her from the inside out.

An inexplicable, nameless fear arises in my heart, and as time goes by, this fear is amplified infinitely.

After waiting by the stone gate for a long time without hearing anyone pass by, Gu Baiwei's heart sank to the bottom.

She won't just be locked up inside like that, and starve to death without anyone finding out, will she?

Thinking this with trepidation, I faintly heard a soft sound.

She listened carefully for a while, then tentatively lowered her voice and called out, "Mimi?"

The sound echoed in the empty cave, sounding somewhat eerie.

After listening intently for a while, she seemed to hear a faint meow coming from deep within the cave.

Moreover, she vaguely noticed that a faint light seemed to be shining through from the depths of the cave.

She swallowed hard, and a bold guess suddenly popped into her mind: perhaps there was another exit deep inside this cave.

Thinking this, she couldn't wait any longer. She felt her way along the wall and slowly walked deeper into the cave, carefully listening to the sound of cats meowing to determine her direction.

Time always seems to drag on in the darkness, and she groped her way forward little by little along the wall.

I don't know how long I walked, but the meowing grew closer and closer, and the light ahead became more and more obvious.

Following the direction of the light, she saw a set of steps leading downwards.
