Chapter 202 The Mischievous Child

The phrase "little sister" that Xia's mother had prepared was ultimately not used.

The main problem was that she simply couldn't bring herself to call Gu Baiwei by her name, given that Gu Baiwei's face looked almost as old as their daughter's.

Gu Baiwei had never discussed marriage with anyone as an elder in either of her two lifetimes. She just smiled and nodded as she listened to Ye Sinian and Xia's parents discuss things, like a lucky cat displayed at the entrance of a shop.

By the time the specific details of the wedding were finalized, her face was stiff from smiling so much.

"Auntie, if you're tired, go outside for some fresh air. I can discuss the rest with Uncle and Auntie."

Ye Sinian noticed her unease and spoke in a low voice.

She immediately felt as if she had been granted a pardon, smiled politely at Xia's parents, and stood up: "You two talk first, I'm going out for a walk."

The Xia family villa has a nice environment, with green plants on three sides, lush and verdant. Not far from the entrance, there is a huge rectangular swimming pool with clear water that glistens in the sunlight.

She was admiring the beautiful scenery when she suddenly noticed a small pink shadow floating in the pool. Upon closer inspection, she was immediately terrified.

It turned out to be a little girl.

Without a second thought, she kicked off her high heels and jumped into the water.

The little girl looked to be no more than four or five years old. Her breathing was weak, and her round little face was already a bit pale.

She wrapped one arm around the child and frantically paddled in the water with the other, swimming towards the edge of the pool.

Fortunately, the pool wasn't too big, and she swam to the edge in no time. Just as she was about to pick up her child, she heard a splash. Some scoundrel had thrown a pebble in, splashing her face and head with water.

She was stunned for a moment, then looked up and saw a little boy, about seven or eight years old, sticking his tongue out at her triumphantly while holding a handful of pebbles.

"Fool!"

The little boy made a mocking face at her and threw a pebble at her head. If she hadn't reacted quickly enough, the pebble would have smashed her forehead.

"Why don't you try throwing another one?"

Gu Baiwei's temper flared up instantly. Who the hell is this brat? He's so ill-mannered! Can't he see she's saving people?

"Just throw it away, just throw it away. Who told you to save that little idiot?"

The little boy made a face at her and then threw all the pebbles in his hand at them.

Fearing the little girl would get hurt, Gu Baiwei could only lower her head and hold the child tightly in her arms. However, she was accidentally hit on the forehead by one of the stones, and she hissed in pain.

"Serves you right."

The little boy stuck his tongue out at her triumphantly, then darted into the bushes and disappeared.

Noticing the girl's faint breathing in her arms, she didn't bother to argue with the brat. She quickly carried the child ashore, laid her flat on the ground, and began to perform CPR and artificial respiration.

After repeating this several times, the little girl in my arms suddenly coughed twice and choked on a mouthful of water.

Her long, thick eyelashes trembled slightly, and she half-opened her large eyes to glance at her before wearily closing them again.

Seeing that the child had finally woken up, she breathed a sigh of relief and hurriedly bent down to pick the child up from the ground.

Just as I was about to take the child inside, something suddenly hit me from behind and hurt.

Turning around, she saw the same brat hiding under a tree, smugly aiming a slingshot at her.

Holy crap, that brat is back to cause trouble again!

If she hadn't been in such a hurry to save someone, she would have definitely given that brat a good beating.

I can't stoop to the level of a brat; saving lives is the priority. I'll bear it.

Gu Baiwei kept repeating to herself, trying to ignore the annoying brat behind her, and hurriedly walked into the room with the little girl in her arms.

Just as she lifted her foot, another pebble struck Gu Baiwei squarely on the back of the head with a loud thud.

Damn it, I can't stand it anymore!

She bent down and placed the little girl on the nearby lounge chair, then picked up a pebble that had just fallen to the ground and aimed it at the little boy not far from the pool.

"Come and hit me if you dare, you bitch!"

The little boy arrogantly gave her the middle finger, looking smug.

As soon as he finished speaking, with a snap, a pebble struck the little boy squarely on the forehead, and the spot immediately became visibly red and swollen.

Gu Baiwei, feeling refreshed, patted non-existent dust off her hands and picked up the little girl from the recliner again.

Just as I was about to turn around and go inside, I heard a heart-wrenching wail.

"You bastard, you dare to hit me! I... I'll have my grandfather skin you alive!"

The little boy wiped the tears from his face with his dirty hands, then turned and ran away.

"Okay, I'll wait."

"Come on then, who's afraid of who? She wants to see what kind of parents can raise such an unruly child."

They're so young and they already know how to throw stones at people. What will they do when they grow up? They'll probably kill and rob people.

She didn't have time to deal with the unruly child and went straight into the house with the little girl in her arms.

In the living room, Ye Sinian and Xia's parents had just finalized all the details of the wedding when they turned around at the sound of the noise and saw Gu Baiwei, soaking wet, carrying a little girl who was also soaking wet, into the house.

"Isn't this Wang Ma's millet? What's wrong with it?"

Xia's mother was startled and hurriedly went to meet her.

"This child fell into the pool, and I just pulled her out."

As soon as she finished speaking, a simply dressed middle-aged woman with red eyes ran forward and hugged the child in her arms.

With trembling hands, I placed them under the child's nose, paused for a few seconds, and then let out a long sigh.

Holding the child tightly, she bent over and repeatedly thanked Gu Baiwei, saying, "Thank you, Miss Gu, thank you, thank you so much!"

He then made a gesture as if to kneel down before her.

Gu Baiwei quickly raised her hand to stop her: "You should take the child to change his/her clothes and take a hot bath so he/she doesn't catch a cold."

"Wang Ma, you go and take care of Xiaomi. You don't need to worry about things here."

Madam Xia was also frightened just now, and only now did she come to her senses. She hurriedly said to Wang Ma.

"Thank you, Madam. Thank you, Miss Gu."

Only then did Wang Ma leave, carrying Xiaomi and thanking her profusely.

Mrs. Xia watched her leave and shook her head with a sigh: "Alas, she is a pitiful person. She is divorced from her husband, and her child is deaf and mute."

Gu Baiwei hadn't expected the child to be so pitiful, and she felt a pang of pity as she looked at Wang Ma's retreating figure.

Thinking about that arrogant brat from earlier made me even angrier.

When Madam Xia saw that she was covered in water, she hurriedly had someone lead her to the guest room to change her clothes.

After she changed her clothes and came out, the group lost interest in chatting. After a brief exchange of pleasantries, Gu Baiwei and Ye Sinian left the Xia family.

To everyone's surprise, the car had barely driven a short distance from the villa gate when it was blocked by a black stretch Lincoln parked across the road.

Ye Sinian honked his horn, but the other party showed no intention of moving aside.

He could only stop the car temporarily, wanting to get out and negotiate with the other party.

As soon as I opened my car door, the door of the black Lincoln opposite me also opened.

A burly man in a black suit and sunglasses got out of the front seat and respectfully bent down to open the back door.
