Chapter 216 You never cared about me before, so why are you trying to control me now?

When she was little, she was always accompanied by either the family's housekeeper or a maid at every parent-teacher meeting.

She always watched with envy as her classmates enjoyed happy times with their parents.

Over time, her heart gradually became numb, and she no longer had any expectations of her parents.

She told herself, so what if she didn't have parents? She could still live a good life. No one would dare to bully her.

She fought, skipped classes, and hung out in the underworld, becoming a delinquent at school. No one dared to mess with her, and no one dared to mention that she had no parents in front of her.

Ye Chuyue looked out the window, tears streaming down her face without her realizing it.

Why did they never appear when she needed them most, but then suddenly appear before her without warning when she no longer needed them?

She knew it wasn't their fault, but she still couldn't forgive them.

During those days when she was a child and was called a wild child and ill-mannered, she would secretly cry under the covers, wishing that her parents would appear, give her a hug, kiss her, and tell her that she had parents and that they would always love her.

But no, not even once.

The rain outside the window was getting heavier and heavier. Just then, she saw a familiar figure appear by the roadside with an umbrella.

Countless raindrops pounded on the umbrella, and apart from the small patch of ground beneath it, the rest of the area was filled with wet rainwater, damp and chilly.

Just like those painful times she had forgotten.

Ye Chuyue's lips curled into a mocking smile before she quickly looked away.

She is no longer a little child who needs her parents' protection.

Song Anze also noticed Gu Baiwei holding an umbrella by the roadside, immediately slowed down the car, and greeted her: "Miss Gu".

Gu Baiwei nodded and hurriedly asked him, "Dr. Song, is Yueyue in your car?"

Hearing the affirmative answer, her tense expression slowly relaxed.

Taking a deep breath, she walked to the back door and gently knocked on it: "Yueyue, can we talk?"

After a long silence, Ye Chuyue finally spoke softly, "Come on up."

Gu Baiwei carefully folded the umbrella, shook off the water vigorously under the car, and then stepped into the car.

Ye Chuyue then noticed that her shoes were wet, the lower half of her pants were also wet, and there were many mud spots on the cuffs.

She paused, then silently looked away.

Song Anze glanced at the coffee shop not far away, then turned to Ye Chuyue and said, "You two chat, I'll go buy coffee."

After saying that, he opened his umbrella and walked into the rain.

For a moment, only the mother and daughter remained in the car. They sat silently, neither of them speaking.

The heavy rain continued, the raindrops pattering against the car, standing out starkly in the quiet environment.

"Yueyue, I know it's hard for you to accept right now, but it's true, your father and I were both reborn after we died..."

After a long pause, Gu Baiwei spoke first.

Ye Chuyue listened silently as she finished speaking, then lowered her head and clenched her fists: "So what? You haven't been a part of my life for over ten years, so why should I accept you now that you've suddenly appeared?"

Gu Baiwei was speechless, not knowing how to explain herself.

Indeed, they have not fulfilled their responsibilities as parents over the past ten years.

"Yueyue, we had no choice. I don't expect you to accept us right away, I just hope you won't put too much pressure on yourself..."

As she spoke, she reached out to touch Ye Chuyue's head, but her hand was avoided just as her fingers were about to touch her.

Ye Chuyue looked up, her eyes slightly red: "Why couldn't you have shown up sooner? If you had shown up sooner, I wouldn't have been called a wild child, and I wouldn't always be all alone..."

Crystalline tears slid down her cheeks and landed on the back of her fair hands.

"Since you haven't shown up for the past ten years or so, why are you showing up now to disrupt my life?"

"Yueyue, I..."

"Enough. Since you haven't shown up for so many years, please don't disturb my life anymore."

After Ye Chuyue finished her hysterical screaming, she slammed the car door open and got out.

"Yueyue, wait, danger!"

Her sudden action startled Gu Baiwei.

It was raining outside, and cars were coming and going on the road. Getting out of the car at this time would be very dangerous.

She hurriedly chased after her: "Yueyue, be careful, let's talk about it when we get back, okay?"

"You never cared about me before, so what right do you have to care about me now?"

Ye Chuyue forcefully shook off her hand, but out of the corner of her eye she suddenly caught sight of a white car speeding straight toward her.

She instinctively tried to dodge, but her foot tripped over something, sending a sharp, piercing pain through her.

As the white sedan drew closer, Ye Chuyue limped and tried to dodge, but her injured ankle gave her no strength whatsoever.

"Yueyue!"

Almost at the moment the car was about to hit Ye Chuyue, Gu Baiwei suddenly lunged forward, tightly hugging Ye Chuyue as they lurched forward.

The car sped past them, and Gu Baiwei rolled to the side with her in her arms, her back hitting the curb hard, causing her to hiss softly in pain.

But she disregarded her own injuries and hurriedly got up to check on Ye Chuyue carefully. Only after confirming that she was safe and sound did she breathe a sigh of relief.

Ye Chuyue noticed the scratch on her cheek that she didn't know when it happened, her eyes flickered, and she looked away: "Don't think that just because you saved me, I'll acknowledge you."

Gu Baiwei smiled gently at her: "It's okay, Mom can wait until you're willing to accept me."

"what ever."

Ye Chuyue said this expressionlessly, then turned and got into the car.

The rain had stopped sometime earlier, a gentle breeze dispersed the dark clouds, and sunlight shone through the clouds, casting a magnificent rainbow across the sky.

Gu Baiwei looked up at the magnificent rainbow and was momentarily stunned.

"Aren't you getting in the car?"

Ye Chuyue leaned out of the car window, urging them on impatiently.

"good."

Gu Baiwei smiled at her, opened the car door, and sat down next to her.

Ye Chuyue noticed the still-bleeding wound on her face, and after a moment of silence, said to her, "Wait for me here."

After saying that, he got out of the car and quickly walked into the pharmacy next door.

A moment later she returned carrying a paper bag from the pharmacy, casually tossed the bag to her, and sat back down in her seat.

Just then, Song Anze returned with coffee. He glanced at the two of them for a moment and asked with a smile, "You two have made up?"

Gu Baiwei nodded, but Ye Chuyue snorted coldly: "I didn't say I accepted you. It's just that you were injured while saving me, so it's only right that I buy you medicine. Don't flatter yourself."

"Alright, alright, I was just being presumptuous. Can we go back and take care of your brother and sister-in-law now?"

Ye Chuyue glanced at her, but didn't refuse, which was taken as tacit agreement.

Song Anze drove the two back to the hospital. When the car stopped, Gu Baiwei got out first.

Just as Ye Chuyue was about to follow, a large hand grabbed her arm.
