Gu Baiwei woke up with a start; she hadn't dreamed about that child in a long time.
The child used to be their neighbor in the community. It is said that the mother was mentally unstable and the father was an alcoholic and gambler who would beat and scold the two of them.
Seeing how pitiful he was, Gu Baiwei would often take him home for meals and share her snacks with him.
Later, his father fell to his death after getting drunk, and his mother was sent to a mental hospital. Qi Yu was then taken away by his grandparents.
Gu Baiwei never saw him again after that.
"Sister, you're awake?"
Her consciousness was pulled back by a familiar male voice, and the boy's pale, handsome features slowly overlapped with the thin, pale face in her memory.
Gu Baiwei shook her head. Impossible. If that child were alive today, he would probably be middle-aged by now. He couldn't possibly be this young.
"Sister, are you hungry? I made some noodles."
A smile appeared on Qi Yu's pale face as she happily placed a bowl of scallion oil noodles in front of her.
Crispy fried scallions, mixed with hot oil, are poured over noodles, making them look incredibly tempting.
But she has absolutely no appetite now.
The thought of the hotel being engulfed in flames before she lost consciousness caused her heart to clench with pain.
She wanted to find Shen Yanqing to check on his condition, but when she moved, she realized that her hands were tied.
"Qi, what are you doing?"
She looked at Qi Yu in shock, the scene before she lost consciousness flashing through her mind. She remembered that Qi Yu had used a wet towel to knock her unconscious.
"what are you up to?"
She immediately struggled, but the ropes binding her hands were so tight that she couldn't break free. She could only clench her fists and stare intently at Qi Yu.
Qi Yu, however, seemed oblivious, and smiled as she picked up the chopsticks beside her: "Don't worry, sister, he's fine, and I have no ill intentions towards you."
Why would someone drug her if they meant no harm? And why tie her up? Gu Baiwei felt that something was off about the whole thing.
Qi Yu's smile remained gentle. He picked up the bowl with one hand, used his chopsticks to pick up a few noodles, carefully blew on them to cool them, and brought them to Gu Baiwei's lips: "Sister, try it. I made it myself. It's your favorite scallion oil noodles."
Gu Baiwei was stunned for a moment upon hearing this. How did he know?
When she was little, she loved eating her grandma's scallion oil noodles, but she hasn't eaten them since her grandma passed away.
The same name, and somewhat similar appearances...
A bold guess suddenly popped into Gu Baiwei's mind. She looked up at him and asked, "Who exactly are you?"
Qi Yu blinked and looked at her with a smile: "Sister, I'm Qi Yu..."
He paused, then leaned closer to her ear and whispered, "My sister promised to stay with me forever."
His voice was soft, his hot breath brushing against her ear, yet it inexplicably made Gu Baiwei's heart tremble.
Qi Yu, he's the same Qi Yu from when he was a child, so how could this be? Why is he so young? Did he time-travel like her?
But soon, Gu Baiwei's expression calmed down. If it really was Qi Yu, she didn't seem to have anything to be afraid of.
I just don't know why he drugged her and brought her back, and even tied her up, as if he was afraid she would escape.
"Qi Yu, you time-traveled too?"
She looked at him in disbelief, and only when he nodded did she completely relax.
"Let go of me, I'll eat it myself."
She spoke to Qi Yu, but Qi Yu just stared at her with his unbearable eyes, and after a long while, gently shook his head: "No."
Qi Yu smiled and picked up the bowl again: "I'll feed you, sister. Be good, open your mouth..."
He was clearly smiling, but Gu Baiwei inexplicably felt a chill run down her spine. Something flashed through her mind, but she couldn't see anything clearly.
"Sister, did you remember something?"
Qi Yu stared at her expression and spoke softly. Although there was still a smile on her lips, her tone was icy cold.
What should I remember?
Gu Baiwei was somewhat puzzled, as her memories of Qi Yu were all of playing together when they were children.
Back then, Qi Yu was a tiny little thing, as beautiful as a porcelain doll, easily arousing people's protective instincts.
He always followed her obediently, never crying or making a fuss, doing whatever she asked him to do, so well-behaved it was unbelievable.
As a child, Gu Baiwei couldn't help but think that it would be great if Qi Yu really was her younger brother. She would be so happy to have such a handsome and well-behaved younger brother.
Although Qi Yu's facial features still showed some resemblance to her childhood appearance, her personality seemed to have changed drastically.
"nothing."
Qi Yu lowered her eyes, quickly regaining her usual gentle demeanor.
He picked up his chopsticks and fed the noodles to Gu Baiwei again. Gu Baiwei was really hungry, so she could only let him feed her.
Watching her finish the noodles in her bowl, Qi Yu's cold eyes gradually softened. It was wonderful; now she belonged to him completely.
After finishing her noodles, Gu Baiwei immediately yawned.
What's wrong? Why do I suddenly feel so sleepy, my eyelids are so heavy? She forced herself to say, "Qi Yu, what exactly do you want...?"
Before he could finish speaking, he leaned his head on Qi Yu's shoulder.
Qi Yu carefully carried her to the bed, his gaze falling on her wrists, which were red from being tied with rope. After hesitating for a moment, he finally reached out and untied the rope from her wrists.
He sat by the bed, watching her sleep with even breathing, and after a while he got up and left: "Sister, I'm going out for a bit, I'll be right back."
While Gu Baiwei was fast asleep, Shen Yanqing and Ye Sinian were anxiously searching for her whereabouts.
"Boss, someone just saw Miss Gu being taken away by a boy who looks like a high school student."
Big Head returned, panting, to report what he had found out.
"Anything else?"
Shen Yanqing reached out and loosened his tie, rubbing his temples in frustration. Finding someone based on this single clue was like looking for a needle in a haystack.
After thinking for a moment, Da Tou hurriedly added, "That boy should know Miss Gu. It seems that Miss Gu even greeted him."
A high school student who also knows Gu Baiwei...
Shen Yanqing quickly organized the clues she had collected, and a pale, delicate face suddenly appeared in her mind.
He clenched his fist and then relaxed it, instructing Big Head, "Prepare the car."
It started raining sometime earlier, a light drizzle, and a black sedan slowly came to a stop at the entrance of the narrow alley.
Before the burly bodyguard in black could even open his umbrella, Shen Yanqing snatched it away, saying, "I'll go myself. You wait here for me."
"But boss, what if he really did kidnap Miss Gu? Are you going to go alone...?"
Big Head followed, still worried.
"He's just a kid, what's there to be afraid of? Besides, we're not even sure it's him yet. I'll go and test him out first. You wait here for me, that's an order."
After saying that, Shen Yanqing opened her umbrella and plunged into the narrow, rainy alley.
Big Head glanced around uneasily, then could only return to the car to wait.
The pattering rain woke Gu Baiwei. Just as she was regaining her senses, she heard the urgent doorbell ringing outside.
