Chapter Thirty-Nine: Applying the Medicine

Upon hearing the familiar voice, Shen Yanqing's fierce expression instantly vanished, replaced by his usual gentle smile: "Please come in."

After saying that, he glanced indifferently at Big Head next to him: "What are you standing there for? Apply the medicine."

"oh oh."

Big Head immediately realized what was happening and thought to himself, "It's a shame that the boss isn't learning Sichuan Opera with his speed in changing his expression."

When Gu Baiwei entered the room, she saw Da Tou clumsily applying medicine to Shen Yanqing with cotton swabs.

"hiss……"

Whether it was because something sore spot had been touched, Shen Yanqing let out a muffled groan.

Da Tou froze on the spot, thinking he would be scolded by his boss again, but to his surprise, Shen Yanqing only frowned slightly: "I'm fine, continue."

Big Head? What's going on? Why does the boss seem so much more amiable all of a sudden?

Shen Yanqing looked up at Gu Baiwei with a faint expression. His handsome face, with its distinct features, was pale and fragile.

He reached for the water glass on the table and casually asked, "Miss Gu, is there something you need? Hmm..."

Before his hand even touched the cup, he let out a muffled groan and slowly withdrew his hand.

Gu Baiwei then noticed that his back was covered in blood and gore. Although many parts had scabbed over, it still looked quite shocking.

The thought that all these injuries were because of her made Gu Baiwei feel inexplicably uneasy.

She clearly remembered that when everything around them was in chaos, it was Shen Yanqing who unhesitatingly held her firmly in his arms.

"Mr. Shen, don't move, I'll help you."

Gu Baiwei stepped forward, picked up the water glass on the table, and held it to Shen Yanqing's lips.

Shen Yanqing brought the cup to the rim and took a sip, but his two sword-like eyebrows furrowed together again.

Big Head looked completely bewildered: "S-Sir, I didn't mean to."

This time he really didn't do it on purpose. The eldest brother's body suddenly moved, and he didn't have time to dodge. The cotton swab went straight into the rolled-up flesh.

Shen Yanqing frowned and said, "It's nothing, continue."

Seeing his pale face from the pain, Gu Baiwei couldn't help but suggest, "Why don't I do it?"

Just as Da Tou was about to say, "I've finished, no need to trouble yourself," he heard his eldest brother say quietly, "Thank you for your trouble."

After saying that, Shen Yanqing glanced at Da Tou and asked, "Don't you have something else to do?"

Big Head paused for a second, then realized that his boss wanted to be alone with Miss Gu and thought he was in the way.

He quickly nodded: "Yes, yes, I have something to attend to. Thank you for your help, Miss Gu."

Seeing a faint smile on Shen Yanqing's lips, he finally felt relieved, knowing he wouldn't have his salary deducted anymore.

After Da Tou left, only Shen Yanqing and Gu Baiwei remained in the room, and the atmosphere became somewhat awkward.

Gu Baiwei carefully bandaged Shen Yanqing's wound with gauze.

Feeling the smooth fingertips brush against his back like feathers, Shen Yanqing's calm eyes rippled slightly, and his body tensed up.

"Mr. Shen, did I hurt you?"

Seeing his expression, Gu Baiwei assumed he had accidentally used too much force and hurriedly asked him what was wrong.

"It's okay, it doesn't hurt at all, you can continue."

Shen Yanqing spoke softly, then paused and couldn't help but ask, "Is that Mr. Ye your friend?"

He actually wanted to ask if he was Gu Baiwei's boyfriend, but after hesitating for a long time, he didn't ask directly.

Gu Baiwei shook her head: "It's all in the past, we have no relationship now."

Upon hearing this, Shen Yanqing's muscles relaxed, and a hint of tenderness appeared in his deep eyes.

Gu Baiwei picked up the gauze from the side and said softly, "Mr. Shen, I'm going to start bandaging your wound."

As she spoke, her slender, fair fingers picked up a piece of gauze and carefully wrapped it from Shen Yanqing's back to his chest, round and round, until finally, she tied a knot at Shen Yanqing's chest.

Shen Yanqing looked down at her serious expression, and the fingers on the bed curled up slightly.

Soft fingertips glided across his chest, sending a tingling sensation through him.

As he watched those small, fair hands clumsily tie the gauze in front of him, Shen Yanqing's lowered eyes gradually deepened.

He suddenly raised his hand, grabbed Gu Baiwei's hand, his large hand enveloping her small one, and said in a slightly hoarse voice, "Weiwei, how about being my woman?"

Gu Baiwei was startled by these words. Her fingers, which were tying a knot, suddenly tightened, causing Shen Yanqing's wound to be constricted. He immediately let out a muffled groan, and the wound, which had not yet scabbed over, instantly oozed bright red blood.

"I'm sorry, Mr. Shen."

Gu Baiwei hurriedly let go of his hand and frantically re-bandaged him.

Seeing her embarrassed expression, Shen Yanqing couldn't help but chuckle: "You got scared just from a joke?"

Upon hearing this, Gu Baiwei breathed a sigh of relief. She was terrified. She thought the big shot had really taken a liking to her. In just a few seconds, she had imagined countless terrible consequences of rejecting Shen Yanqing.

This includes, but is not limited to, dumping bodies in the wilderness or drowning them in rivers.

Just thinking about it sends chills down my spine.

In the original book, this person appears to be a gentleman and gentle, but in reality, he is extremely ruthless.

It is said that a woman once tried to seduce him, but he ruthlessly threw her to his men for them to abuse. This is even more true for those who rejected him.

Seeing her look relieved, the smile in Shen Yanqing's eyes slowly disappeared.

He never imagined that his first time confessing his feelings to a woman would end like this.

Gu Baiwei quickly finished bandaging Shen Yanqing's wounds, and the atmosphere became awkward again.

Just then, someone knocked on the door, and Gu Baiwei immediately breathed a sigh of relief and went to open it.

The door opened, and a middle-aged male doctor in a white coat walked in.

He was carrying a tray with medical supplies such as syringes, cotton swabs, and gauze on it.

Gu Baiwei's gaze fell on the male doctor's shoes. There was a dark red bloodstain on the dark black leather shoes, as if it had been splashed on accidentally.

She didn't think much of it, assuming it was something the doctor had accidentally gotten on while working.

The doctor walked to the bedside with his things, placed the tray on the table next to him, and then suddenly said with an annoyed look, "Oh dear, look at my memory, I forgot to take the stethoscope."

He looked at Gu Baiwei apologetically and said, "Miss, could you please go get it for me? It's in the office at the end of the corridor on the third floor."

Gu Baiwei glanced at Shen Yanqing on the bed; he was looking down, seemingly lost in thought.

She nodded and walked quickly towards the door.

She had only walked a short distance when she suddenly remembered that she should ask the doctor if she needed anything else so she could bring it over as well.

Thinking of this, she immediately went back the way she came. Just as her hand touched the doorknob, a muffled thud came from inside the door.

It sounded like someone had fallen to the ground.

Gu Baiwei's heart skipped a beat. She pushed open the door and saw Shen Yanqing's empty hospital bed.

The white sheets were scattered messily on the bed, and a man was lying on the floor next to the bed facing her; it was the male doctor from earlier.
