Chapter 133 Boiling Wild Berry Wine
Ning Shuyin felt herself being tightly embraced from behind.
Caesar used his body to completely envelop her between himself and the console.
In less than a second, the devastating energy beam of plague mercilessly pierced Caesar's back.
"puff!"
Caesar's body jolted, and blood splattered onto the control panel in front of him.
"Are you crazy!" Ning Shuyin exclaimed in his arms. "This will severely damage your consciousness."
This was the second time in one day that Caesar had shielded her from harm.
Ning Shuyin could feel his rapid heartbeat. His chest, pressed against her back, was burning hot, an unusually high body temperature.
“It’s alright…” Caesar was in great pain, and his voice was noticeably weak, but his hands still held her tightly. “Protecting your date… is the law.”
The scorching breath brushed against her ear, accompanied by the crackling sound of electric arcs.
"Smack!"
Just as he was speaking, an even stronger arc of electricity exploded on his body.
Ning Shuyin felt him tighten his muscles, yet she still couldn't help but spasm. The metal buckles of his combat uniform brushed against her back, creating an undeniable friction.
Every second felt like an eternity to her, as she indirectly felt the lashes of energy.
His sweat dripped down his chin onto the back of her neck, where it was absorbed by her combat uniform.
Finally, the energy of the plague module gradually died down.
Only after enduring the last trace of blue electric arc did Caesar dare to relax.
"Are you alright?" Ning Shuyin asked in a low voice.
"It's nothing, it's just a... Plague Apostle, right? I'm just getting a Plague Module for free... It's not a bad deal."
After Caesar finished speaking, he tried to prop himself up with his hands.
However, his overworked body betrayed his will.
He only managed to hold on for a moment before letting out another muffled groan, losing control of himself, and slamming down heavily once more.
"I'm sorry..." His blond hair, almost soaked with sweat, fell down the side of her face. His forehead rested limply against the crook of her neck.
"I'll help you." Ning Shuyin struggled to move her body a little, trying to lift him up.
But at that moment, the warship began to shake.
The two looked up.
On the holographic battlefield ahead, the Wanderer is moving along a straight trajectory.
The warship was surrounded by the wreckage of mechanical warships, but the intelligent control system did not avoid them.
"Wanderer." Caesar tried to summon the ship's AI system, but there was no response.
The warship was seen rushing toward the obstacle several kilometers away.
Ning Shuyin suddenly felt a heat on the back of her hand.
He was holding her hand. His broad, warm palm covered her hand and tightened around the mechanical control lever.
"You drive." His voice was hoarse and panting.
The joystick provides a silky smooth, damped feel.
Caesar pulled Ning Shuyin's hand upwards. The hydraulic system quickly transmitted her actions to the Wanderer's control system.
She felt a sudden heaviness in her body.
The warship was pulled up by her maneuver, narrowly avoiding a piece of damaged armor.
“Yes, like this.” He guided her wrist with his palm, sometimes pushing and sometimes pressing, “to anticipate the gap that can be squeezed through.”
Under her control, the Wanderer navigated through a sea of wreckage and debris. Metal objects kept whizzing past the portholes, and the warship's distance warnings blared incessantly.
His blond hair brushed against her cheek, keeping her on edge about the distance between them.
Ning Shuyin felt as if he had led her into a dance of death.
Finally, the warship broke through the wreckage. Only five minutes remained to reach the jump point.
The flashing of the distance warning light stopped. Ning Shuyin's palms were also soaked with sweat.
Outside the porthole, the starry sky was serene. The broken wreckage had been left behind, spinning alone.
She glanced at the holographic star map; there were less than five minutes left of the journey to the designated jump point.
"Caesar?" she called softly, releasing her grip on the control stick.
But there was no response from behind.
With a snap.
She felt a chill on the back of her hand, and a lightness over her body. The tall man's body had slid to the floor.
Ning Shuyin turned around and squatted down to check.
"How are you?" She gently touched his neck, feeling his weak pulse. Without hesitation, she channeled a healing energy into his body.
Caesar opened his eyes and gave a nonchalant smile: "His sea of consciousness... seems to be a little injured. But it's not a big deal, it won't stop us from throwing that piece of junk away."
Under the healing power of the green energy, his breathing gradually stabilized, and he sat back in the conductor's chair.
"Little guy, you just learned to drive, how about we have something to celebrate?"
Caesar's tone remained normal, but Ning Shuyin could still detect the superficiality he was trying to conceal. Having received two treatments from her in a short period, the second one was already significantly less effective.
"Have something cold," she said.
She was indeed thirsty.
"How about a drink?" Caesar said, pulling up the inventory in the command center. "Let me see... there should be a bottle of Wild Berry Brew on board. The storage temperature is 8 degrees Celsius, so it should be just right."
He reached out and pressed the inventory adjustment switch.
Before long, the ship's service robot slid up to Caesar with a plate on its head.
On the plate were two crystal-clear stemmed wine glasses and a bottle of wild berry wine that had already been opened.
However, Caesar's expression changed when he saw the bottle.
The bottle of wild berry wine, which should have been ice-cold with icy steam clinging to the outside, was now bubbling and steaming as if it were boiling inside.
“Something’s not right.” Caesar and Ning Shuyin exchanged glances.
"A reserve warehouse?" Ning Shuyin exclaimed in surprise.
The two stood up at the same time. Ning Shuyin half-supported Caesar and quickly walked towards the warship's supply compartment.
At that moment, the safety lights in the storage warehouse were off. The two men opened the warehouse door and were both startled.
The storage facility, spanning hundreds of square meters, has undergone a terrifying transformation.
Space is twisted and distorted in subtle ways.
The source of the eerie distortion was the golden particle inside the ellipsoidal container—a multicolored black.
The golden particle, which was originally tiny and smooth, now has sharp edges on its surface.
It no longer presents a stable, static state, but beats like the heart of a living being.
With each pulse, several thin, long black energy lines extend outwards.
Wherever the energy lines touched, objects shaped by the space seemed to be infected with a virus, their shape, color, and temperature all becoming distorted.
“This high-dimensional particle is already unstable,” Caesar’s pale face grew serious. “Soon it will become a cancer of space…”
After saying that, he took Ning Shuyin's hand and left the storage depot, but instead of heading towards the command center, he went in another direction.
Ning Shuyin grabbed him: "Where are we going?"
That thing has completely spiraled out of control. Once it undergoes a qualitative change, both the Alliance and the Outer Boundaries will be devoured.
Caesar tightened his grip and continued pulling her along. They finally stopped at the doorway of a small cabin.
Inside was a small, single-soldier assault ship.
"Ning Shuyin, go up there," he commanded.
Ning Shuyin immediately understood what he wanted her to do. "And what about you?"
Caesar avoided her gaze: "There might not be enough time to jump to Ross. I plan to use teleportation to leave it in some spatial rift."
He spoke casually, but the resolute look in his eyes said it all—he wasn't sure he could come back.
He was prepared to risk his life for the safety of the league and the outside world.
Ning Shuyin pressed herself firmly against the cabin door, shaking her head desperately: "No!"
"I'm not discussing this with you," Caesar said sternly, reaching out to forcefully push her inside.
"Wait!" Ning Shuyin suddenly looked at him pitifully, "I'm afraid of encountering danger on the road, can you give me a laser gun?"
Caesar glanced at her for a few seconds, concluding that she couldn't escape far from this warship.
"Wait." He turned and staggered toward the armory. When he returned, he was holding a dark gray individual laser gun.
He handed the gun to Ning Shuyin, then looked at her intently. His blue eyes were unfathomable, filled with reluctance, farewell, and also a plea for her return.
Ning Shuyin took the gun and did not resist further.
With her head down, she walked silently into the assault ship.
The hatch closed. From the outside, he could only see her petite figure sitting in the cold cockpit of the assault ship.
The assault ship's engines started, and the catapult launch was completed within five seconds.
"Whoosh!"
A streak of light detached from the hull of the Wanderer, instantly reaching its maximum acceleration.
Caesar stood there, watching the tiny point of light grow smaller and smaller through the porthole. His azure eyes held both melancholy and a sense of relief.
Are they really that fast when they're running for their lives? But as long as they can move, that's good enough.
At least, she is safe.
He reached out and braced himself against the wall, then turned and walked towards the ominous vault. It was time to retrieve his death warrant.
However, when he opened the door to the vault, he froze.
The place where that high-dimensional container used to be is now—
It was completely empty.
