Chapter 177: Fired the Boss
A slight movement came from the treatment bed. It was Loran opening her eyes.
The storm in my mind has subsided. Although my spirit is as weak as if it has been hollowed out, the tearing sensation has disappeared.
He survived.
His gaze fell on Ning Shuyin, who was nearly exhausted, by the bedside.
She had almost exhausted her powers; some energy liquid from the resonance pool still clung to the ends of her hair, and there were some water stains around her feet.
Loran opened his mouth as if to say something, but in the end he said nothing.
He knew clearly that the pollution in his mind had been cleared. But this cleansing did not leave nothing behind.
Her mark remains in his pure, innocent spiritual world.
Severe mysophobia and absolute rationality are now a thing of the past.
His uncontrollable gaze lingered on her, secretly tracing the outline of her bloodless lips. He watched as she struggled to support the mechanical servant, her slender shoulders seeming as if they might collapse at any moment.
She would be a better fit for this bed than he is.
Despite the dizziness, Loran managed to sit up from the treatment bed.
He reached out and gently pushed away Kross's shoulder, which was leaning against her, and picked Ning Shuyin up from in front of him.
She was still so light, landing in my arms like a feather.
Lorraine moved with unusual care, settling her on the bed he had just lain on.
Then, he turned to Cross and said coldly, "You, lie down there."
He pointed to another simple observation bed in the room. Clos, however, showed no intention of moving.
"Go ahead," Ning Shuyin said softly.
Klose then obediently struggled to get over.
Loran had walked to the locker, took out a vial from his supply bag, and placed it in Ning Shuyin's palm.
"Drink it, high-concentration superpower supplement."
"Thanks."
“I don’t need your thanks,” Loran interrupted her, his voice still icy.
He reached out and manipulated something on Kloss's observation bed, and an energy-soothing treatment screen opened up, enveloping Kloss within it.
“This time it’s me who owes you. I will repay the debt I owe you.” Loran walked back to Ning Shuyin’s bedside and said, “Until… I’ve paid it all off.”
For a moment, the atmosphere in the monitoring room became somewhat awkward.
"Now that the treatment is over, little one, why don't you stay outside the boundary and rest for a while?" Caesar walked to the edge of the bed and sat down, reaching out to poke Ning Shuyin's little face.
"There are so many fun places on Bathing Planet. There are many natural energy springs with different styles, and countless cats and dogs sunbathing by the waterways, waiting for you to feed them." Caesar's voice was full of temptation, describing the pleasantness of a vacation to her.
“What’s so special about a vacation paradise?” Zhou Zhiheng walked over and sat down on the edge of the bed.
The already narrow treatment bed became even more cramped.
“I own thousands of resorts, enough to keep you entertained for as long as you want. How about we go to Star E first? The pink sand beach there is quite nice.” Zhou Zhiheng had already opened the itinerary on his personal computer.
Situ Linchen looked somewhat troubled.
He also wanted to take Ning Shuyin on vacation, but he couldn't leave behind all the mess in the league.
Loran watched her from a distance, silent.
“No, I have to go back to Planet A.” She looked at Caesar.
Caesar lowered his head, his lips drooped, and he looked utterly dejected.
Seeing his expression, Ning Shuyin explained, "My previous news made Qianqian worry. I need to go back and have a good time with her."
“Alright, little guy,” Caesar nodded, “I know you’re the most loyal person, and your friends are your greatest asset. So, after you’ve finished hanging out with your friends from Planet A, remember to come see me, your friend from outside the world.”
...
Half a standard day later.
Star A, Cloud Apartment in District 7.
The Phantom smoothly docked at Ning Shuyin's apartment's private shuttle yard.
The Opera House was too big, so Ning Shuyin left the ship at the distant airport and took Zhou Zhiheng's Phantom home.
"Alright, I can go in by myself. Thank you for seeing me off." Ning Shuyin walked down the gangway.
“No, I’ll take you.” Zhou Zhiheng remained unmoved and followed closely behind her.
Ning Shuyin suddenly felt something was strange.
From the moment they began their return journey, Zhou Zhiheng stayed by her side without leaving her side.
The two walked to the familiar apartment door.
The biometric sensor lights up.
"Beep! Access confirmed. Welcome home, Mr. Zhou, Ms. Ning."
The door opened.
Ning Shuyin: "..."
She looked at the door that was open for Zhou Zhiheng, and then at his handsome face that seemed to say it was all just a matter of course, and for a moment she didn't know how to react.
Stepping into the apartment, everything was exactly the same as when she left.
Throw-in cushions are piled on the sofa, and energy-boosting cookies are casually placed on the table. On the coffee table are some of her favorite DIY jewelry accessories.
But soon, she realized something was wrong.
On the coat rack in the entryway hung a men's trench coat that clearly didn't belong to her.
A large light screen generator has been added to the living room's rest area. On the bar table in the dining area, there's a light brain decorative chain that she saw Zhou Zhiheng wearing.
There are a few more teacups. And there's an extra household robot.
There seem to be many traces of his life here.
Ning Shuyin looked at him with an inquiring gaze.
The young man felt a little uncomfortable under her gaze and showed a somewhat embarrassed expression.
“Didn’t we hear about your death before?” he explained. “The Alliance will be conducting some related investigations. I was afraid those stupid bureaucrats would just come in and mess things up here, so… I moved in temporarily.”
Seeing him caught red-handed, Ning Shuyin suddenly remembered something and opened the quantum computer interface.
She accessed her personal assets account, where a string of numbers with more than a few zeros lay, making it impossible to count them all.
The five trillion star coins paid by Situ Linchen and Caesar were for treatment.
Ning Shuyin tapped her fingertip on the screen, initiating the large-amount transfer process.
Zhou Zhiheng noticed her movement, and a strange tension suddenly appeared on his face.
"what you do?"
"transfer."
As she completed the biometric verification, a notification sound rang out in the quiet apartment.
[A massive interstellar transfer has been completed. Payer: Ms. Ning Shuyin; Recipient: Mr. Zhou Zhiheng; Amount: 5 trillion Star Coins.]
Zhou Zhiheng's optical computer terminal lit up, and a notification popped up on the screen, showing that it contained five trillion star coins.
He looked at the money, but there was no joy on his face; instead, he looked disappointed.
Ning Shuyin deliberately avoided looking at his expression: "The 5 trillion debt has been paid off."
This means that he can no longer say that she is his employee.
For the first time, Zhou Zhiheng realized that making money could be an unpleasant experience.
But he only paused for a moment before smiling easily and saying, "That's fine too."
Shedding the constraints of being boss and employee also meant the possibility of starting a new relationship. Moreover, he clearly remembered the contract he had signed with her. He had made a fatal mistake by adding a footnote to the "Personal Ownership Transfer Terms": "Party A promises that it will never have any irrational emotional entanglements with Party B that would affect its profits."
Now that the debt contract has ended, this clause is also invalid.
Moreover, we now have the right timing, the right place, and the right people.
He has already reviewed the latest market situation.
Situ Linchen holds great power in the council, but he is also extremely busy, spending all his time in office meetings and unable to spare any time for work. He is not a threat in the short term.
Loran, that icy figure, has not eased her relationship with her, nor is she a threat.
As for that old man Caesar... he's far beyond our reach, out of our control.
So, if you calculate it like this...
Ning Shuyin put away her personal terminal and continued, "Now that the debt has been paid off, I am no longer your employee, so this employee dormitory should also be returned to you."
“No.” Zhou Zhiheng blurted out. His serious tone startled Ning Shuyin.
"Who told you that you don't have to stay here anymore once you pay back the money?" He suddenly walked up to her.
