In the hot summer, the men in the forest were soon drenched in sweat.
The men Zheng Xinghai hired were all honest and hardworking, and they wouldn't cheat or shirk their duties. Even under the scorching midday sun, they were still busy.
Although the men were tired, the thought of the thirty coins immediately filled them with energy.
Seeing that it was almost time, Zheng Xinghai said, "Everyone, take a break, go back and have a meal, and we'll continue this afternoon."
Upon hearing this, the men put down their hoes and knives, sat by the river, and took out flatbread from their pockets.
Zheng Xinghai: "What's going on here?"
Li Tian: "Village chief, we all brought some flatbread. We can eat it and then continue working."
The rest of the people nodded in agreement; Zheng Xinghai hadn't expected things to turn out this way.
"Be careful not to get sunburned while working in the middle of the day. Go back and rest after you finish eating."
The men had finally gotten this job. They usually worked for other people and earned at most fifteen coins a day. Now they were earning double that, and none of them wanted to go back.
Seeing this, Zheng Xinghai had no choice but to put down his hoe. He had originally planned to go back and get some sleep, but it seemed he would have to continue working.
He asked the others for some flatbread and sat down to eat with them.
When they were thirsty, they would go to the river to scoop up water to drink.
This saves a lot of time.
Since Wu Nanshuang came to our home, taking care of the flowers and plants and cleaning the yard, Nanzhi has had nothing to do.
Thinking about the land she had bought, Nanzhi decided to go and take a look.
The sun was strong and the temperature was high, so Nanzhi wore a veiled hat to cover her face and arms to prevent sunburn.
Nanzhi stood on the ridge of the field, with piles of cleared weeds next to her.
"Why are you all still so busy? Go back and rest," Nan Zhi advised. Working in this kind of weather would be a waste if you got heatstroke.
Nanqun looked up. "Zhizhi, go back. We can hold on."
"Uncle," Nanzhi exclaimed in surprise.
I never expected my uncle to be there too.
Nan Qun walked over and whispered in her ear, "Zhizhi, tell your uncle honestly, did you find something good again?"
"How did Uncle know?"
Nan Qun looked at Nan Zhi, "Otherwise, why would we buy this place?"
Nanzhi thought to herself: Uncle has a really sharp eye.
She pulled the man aside and said, "Uncle, I want to grow rice."
"Rice!" Realizing he had spoken a bit too loudly, he whispered, "People in the next village are already growing it."
Nanzhi shook her head. The rice they grew was different from hers, but Nanzhi couldn't say it outright right now.
After all, the geographical location and the seeds are different. If she were to announce it in advance and it didn't grow successfully, it would be a huge joke.
Although Nanzhi believed in the system, she always wanted to have a backup plan.
"Uncle, do you think I would lie to you?"
Nan Qun shook his head firmly. This girl was more composed than adults and always succeeded. Could it be that she had discovered a better variety of rice?
If he also plants them, wouldn't he also reap a harvest?
"Nan girl, your uncle has saved up twenty taels of silver. Look, how many seeds can that buy for you?"
Nanzhi understood; her uncle was going to work for her.
She was worried about not having anyone to help her watch over the rice fields, and her uncle was just the right person for the job.
"Uncle, why don't you help me plant this field? I'll only need 30% of the seeds."
"This won't do!" The shout drew everyone's attention.
Nan Qun paused, then whispered, "This is your land. Your grandma would kill me if she found out."
Nanzhi patted his shoulder, "Uncle, I trust you with the fields. Otherwise, I would have to find someone to look after them and pay them three taels of silver a month, which would be twelve taels a year."
“I think so,” Nan Qun immediately agreed.
Nan Zhi smiled. Nan Qun had worked hard for decades to save up twenty taels of silver. Twelve taels were going out at once. Although it wasn't his money, as an elder, he would always be given more consideration by the younger generation. Nan Zhi used this to manipulate her uncle.
“We’re family. It’s agreed that I can look after your fields, but I don’t need anything. Just let me farm the fields when the time comes.”
Uncle was unyielding, so Nanzhi could only try to persuade him gradually and agree to it first.
Back in the group, Li Tian and the others quickly gathered around.
"Look how happy you are! What good stuff have you got this time? Tell us quickly." They had seen how he was grinning like a dog earlier.
Nan Qun smiled and said to the group of people behind him, "It's nothing, it's just that Zhizhi wants me to farm the land."
These words sounded casual, but they stirred up intense jealousy in the listener.
In the eyes of farmers, the land is the most important thing; to give away the land is to give away their lives.
This guy got such a good thing.
How hateful he is!
Why don't they have such a good niece or relative?
Just then, someone suddenly said, "Something's wrong! The village chief has fainted."
Nanzhi hadn't gone far when she naturally heard the shout.
The men carried Zheng Xinghai to the shade of a tree, and Nanzhi went forward to check on him.
"Cherry, is Uncle Zheng suffering from heatstroke?" Nanzhi asked.
Cherry: "That's right."
"Everyone, please help Uncle Zheng take off his clothes, and then go to the river to fetch some cool water."
With so many people here, Namji is in charge of checking things out, and then the rest is left to these people.
Nan Qun immediately stepped forward and stripped Zheng Xinghai of his clothes.
Li Tian and others went to the river to fetch water.
A short while later, several people came carrying buckets of water.
"Young lady, what should we do next?"
Nan Zhi: "Soak the clothes, then wipe Uncle Zheng's body."
The men quickly got to work, taking off their clothes and wetting Zheng Xinghai, who was being soaked.
A short while later, Zheng Xinghai woke up groggily.
What's wrong with me?
