Chapter 170 Building a House

The two entered the room, and Nanzhi sat down in the guest seat.

Wang Yushu had barely touched the stool when he let out a "whoosh" and jumped up.

That old man really knows how to kick.

The housekeeper handed over a soft cushion at the right moment, and Wang Yushu placed the cushion on the stool.

He sat down, grimacing.

Wang Yushu looked at Nan Zhi: "Lord Nan, please tell me what kind of deal this is?"

Nan Zhi: "Selling ducks."

"Selling ducks!" Wang Yushu was utterly astonished.

First of all, he was a grain merchant, only capable of transporting grain. Secondly, even if he liked some unusual things, he didn't like ducks.

Besides, there are countless people raising ducks in the county, so who would buy ducks at this critical juncture?

Wang Yushu hurriedly shook his head: "Lord Nan, it's not that I don't want to do this business, but now every household in the county has ducks. Take our existing restaurant, for example, it's already overflowing with ducks. Buying more ducks would be a loss."

Nan Zhi explained, "They buy ducks in the county town and then sell them at a high price to people in other counties."

"Impossible, Professor Nan. People in other counties aren't stupid."

"They're not stupid, but what if they're ducks meant to save the country and its people?"

Wang Yushu paused, "Lord Nan, please elaborate?"

Nanzhi took a sip of tea. "The fragrant ducks single-handedly wiped out the locusts that were passing through here, which also saved the grain in other counties. If they knew that our ducks were the ones that saved people from danger, do you think they would buy them?"

"Buy it, we must buy it!" Wang Yushu said. "If ordinary people knew about this, they would definitely buy it, but not many. But it's different for wealthy families. They care about reputation the most. As long as the price is within their budget, they will definitely try it."

"The Wang family caravan travels all over the Central Plains and has a good reputation. No one will doubt the authenticity of these ducks. Besides, 'rarity increases value.' The further south we go, the fewer ducks we have. We can raise the price then."

Wang Yushu: "What if there are disputes among the people in other places?"

Nanzhi: "Our ducks are special."

Wang Yushu thought for a moment, "Pretty fat?"

These are all birds that have eaten locusts, and their only distinguishing feature compared to the ducks raised by farmers is that they are much fatter.

Nanzhi shook her head and wrote two words on the table.

"Meritorious official".

Wang Yushu was extremely excited, as if he could see ducks turning into gold and beckoning to him.

"But speaking of which, why did Master Nan seek cooperation with me? My family isn't the only one with a caravan in the county; there are three other major families as well." Why would Master Nan choose him?

Nanzhi raised an eyebrow. She couldn't very well say that Wang Yushu was good with words and could fool people.

"I believe that you are exceptionally capable, and no one else can replace you at this time."

Wang Yushu took a deep breath. "Big Eyes really has a discerning eye."

Unlike his father, who always gave him the cold shoulder.

"Does the master not want to gain something from this?"

Nan Zhi feigned profundity and said, "It is on behalf of the people."

I initially thought duck prices would drop, but I never imagined they would drop to this level.

Nanzhi originally planned to buy ducks and then turn them into various delicacies.

But now, there are too many ducks in the whole county.

Even if each person ate one, they still couldn't finish it.

Ducks are already cheap, so Wang Yushu can buy them for very little money.

Then the caravan was responsible for transportation.

Just before the autumn harvest, I can make several business trips.

Wang Yushu followed Nan Zhi's arrangement and transferred all of his own grain teams back.

Then they started buying ducks in the county town and the countryside, including in Taile Village.

Wu Nanshuang returned with two baskets hanging from her arm.

"Master, these ducks are laying too many eggs; our kitchen is already overflowing," Wu Nanshuang complained.

The small bed was usually used to store duck eggs.

Nanzhi: "Give it to my uncle and let him sell it."

Wu Nanshuang placed the basket in front of Nanzhi. "These were sent by the master's uncle. He said there was too much to eat, and our rice fields haven't been harvested yet this morning."

Nanzhi looked at the basket of white baby eggs and fell into deep thought.

"To defend the country and its people, bring some yellow earth."

A short while later, the two of them each carried some yellow soil and placed it in front of Nanzhi.

Nanzhi then instructed Wu Nanshuang, "Boil water and bring it over when it's almost cooled down."

Even though they didn't know what their master was going to do, they still brought the things.

A short while later, Wu Nanshuang brought a basin of cooled boiled water to Nanzhi.

Nanzhi then took salt and oil from the kitchen. With everything almost ready, she rolled up her sleeves and got to work.

Dissolve salt in cold boiled water, then add loess and stir until it becomes a paste.

My usually clean-loving master has started playing with mud.

Wei Min, standing to the side, winked at Wei Guo: Why is Master getting muddy?

Wei Guo shook his head; he didn't know what his master wanted to do either.

Is it because he still has a childlike heart and wants to find the feeling of his childhood?

Both of their gazes fell on Wu Nanshuang, whose stomach was aching.

Wu Nanshuang noticed their gazes and shrugged, indicating that she didn't know either.

She also wanted to understand what her master was doing, especially after seeing her pour oil and salt into the mud as if it were free. Wu Nanshuang felt a pang of heartache and wanted to know even more what she was doing.

But the master hates it when someone disturbs her when she's focused.

Ultimately, curiosity triumphed over fear.

At worst, I'll get a beating from my master; I've been beaten quite a bit back in the secret guard camp anyway.

Wei Min: "Master, why do we roll the duck eggs in the mud?"

Nan Zhi, in high spirits, said, "I want to make salted duck eggs."
